That's because people have no clue what a serving size is! I was shocked myself to realize how many servings I was eating. We in the US eat way too much! 93lb loss eating healthy foods in proper proportions. Still a long way to go, but I'll get there.

Sarah S If you saute the onions and some garlic with a little oil, then add the dry curry powder and a bit of chillie flakes when half way done. That will bring much flavor in those spices out, keep stirring for a bit, 2 to 3 minutes on low. If it gets a little brown that is just fine. That is how we do it. Now add all wet ingredients as usual. Notice how aromatic and tasty it will be.

We do a combo of fresh & convenience. My husband does the cooking, so I figure that’s a good trade off. We always have a salad and / or a cooked vegetable with our meal. Our main dish is usually a protein with other ingredients. We have meatloaf, soups, lots of chicken dishes, occasionally a non meat dinner, like homemade Mac & Cheese. When we take a meal to a family member or a friend, the Mac & Cheese is our go to. Great meals Christine!!

I made "what we have soup" last night too. Mine was chicken thighs, potatoes, celery, carrots, garlic, onions, spinach, peas and corn. I also had blended some oats into oat flour for muffins earlier and had about 1/4 cup left so I threw that in there to thicken it up a bit. It's kind of a cross between a soup and a stew. I got a dinner, leftovers for lunch, and a big container for the deep freeze out of it.

Sarah Hurley I call it stone soup, after the story by the same name. Sometimes at work after thanksgiving meal, we used to all being a veggie and one lady would take the leftover turkey and make soup with everyone’s veggie offerings. It was always delicious! I made a vegetable soup earlier this week just with beef and whatever veggies I had in the freezer, fridge, and pantry. It made a lot and was tasty. I put the rest in the freezer for next week.

Try adding some sweetener to the wheat and give the yeast something to chew on. I made commercial batches of wheat bread that comprised of nothing but stone ground hard red wheat flour for years. I only used five ingredients. You needed the sweetener so the yeast give more loft to the wheat flour. It’s kind of dense so it does need some help. There’s not enough readily available sugars in wheat flour like white flour.

Note when I did the 100% whole wheat I had to us 2.25 cups of water. You have to make it extra wet (wetter in appearance than you think it should) because whole wheat takes longer to absorb water. I also used 1.5 tsp of yeast and no extra gluten. Turned out great!

Family favorite is what we call simple rice ... Cook 1 cup of rice in 3 cups broth, 1 cup of mixed veggies (frozen) salt and pepper to taste and add a little red pepper if you like spice. Serve it with 1 chicken breast cut into bits and pieces we serve 3 with 1 chicken breast and 5 with the simple rice. Open face Tuna melts. Make artisan bread or get a discount bread. Cut slices and top with tuna and cheese bake for 15 minutes at 350 serve with soup and salad. Tomato soup 12 oz can of tomato paste and 5 cups water 1 teaspoon each garlic powder, onion powder and salt, 1 tablespoon sour cream and sugar (helps cut acid from tomatoes) makes about 6 or 7 cups serves 4 in big bowls with tuna melts or grilled cheese. Barley soup 2 carrots 2 parsnips 1 onion 3 celery ribs 1 cup barley 1 or 2 bouillon cubes or stock. Add in enough liquid to cook veggies and make a soup about 8 cups. Served 5 easy with leftovers. TeX mex lasagna 1 cup of each Rice and beans 29 oz tomato sauce 12 corn tortillas (must be corn i get 80 for under $3) and 1 cup cheese, layer, sauce, tortillas, beans and rice, sauce tortillas beans and rice sauce and tortillas and sauce top with cheese and bake in a 9x13 pan for 30 minutes at 350 makes 8 nice servings top with sour cream and hot sauce if you like it. Where in Louisiana? I was raised in New Orleans then the Lafayette area. I was raised with Uncle Tony. He was in my dad’s hunting camp. He gave my mom the recipe long before his son made it big.

A suggestion........load up on plain regular yellow mustard as a tangy flavoring cooking additive ( it's dirt cheap....especially at a dollar store or as a store brand! )

My quickest favorite meal: Left over roasted chicken (chopped/sliced), warmed in a pan/pot, bag of steamable veggies of your choice (or left over veggies) can of Rotel diced tomatoes of your choice and we add olives (kalamata) . It really stretches and you can really play with it. Takes about half hour to come together. I make it frequently with what ever we have left over. I've substituted other protein as well.

I would cook the red beans and rice in my 8 qt pressure cooker so I could brown the ham bone to get those little bits on the bottom of the pot then deglaze with a liquid of some kind with flavor like broth or wine......PS I am also subscribed to "bobby perrish" on KZbin he reviews food letting you know what to watch out for when shopping, and a host of meals from keto, paleo, vegan to just healthy recipes , you will never pick up food without reading the ingredients

I just stumbled upon your channel and I have to say, you do an amazing job editing as well as showing exactly how to use those pantry staples. I have so many beans in my pantry that I bought with good intentions of using but for some reason, beans intimidate me. Thank you so much for showing simple, tasty ways to eat frugally at home. I absolutely smashed that subscribe button!

I totally get same recipe but “mom’s are better”. When I was younger I would tell my mom I didn’t want a sandwich then eat half of hers because it tasted better.

My family loves your bread! I had some old wheat flour I had ground up in my freezer. Made a loaf with it. I used 2 cups whole wheat and 1 cup white. It was definitely denser than the white, but absolutely delicious! I also use a parchment sheet to let mine rest on, then I can just pick it all up and set it in my dutch oven. That way, I'm not touching the dough. I've also never had red beans and rice, but want really to try it! Thank you for your awesome videos!

I wish we could eat beans more, but my husband can’t have them. His diet eliminates quite a few things (no colon due to colon cancer).

SUPER COOL TIP: Plant those sprouted pepper seeds! My mutant seeds were the ONLY ones that sprouted to produce. Sadly my climate makes pepper & tomato maturity difficult but you just reminded me, BUY OLD DISCOUNTED PEPPERS TO START INDOORS ASAP! They WILL produce better than peppers from a seed packet! 😉💚🌱 💖 ur channel. I'm making nothing soup tonite!

Loved this vid! My husband makes the same bread he uses an old crock pot crock and its lid. He also does 50white/50wholr wheat and it's the best texture and flavor IMO. We have cold weather right now and beams are always so good to cost upto. Ham substitutes can be smoked turkey or bacon. Thanks for the yummy ideas and cute vid.
