Boyd! so nice to see you building a model from a movie that has had my heart since it first scared the hell out of me at age 7 (since 1971)!

Glad you didn’t fall of the earth. Good to see a update. I still got a couple of huge kits just sitting because my shop is to warm and work is giving me 50-60 hours a week.

Hi Boyd. Well, you've got me excited to see you put it together. The C57-D was one of the greatest spacecraft in science fiction, and I loved "Forbidden Planet." Happy building, my friend. Peace.

That's a cool ship ...I remember watching this movie as a kid during Sci fi week on our local channel here in NYC...I finally watched on bluray and it holds up really well for a movie from the mid to late 50s I really enjoyed even more now lol its going to be a fantastic model Boyd 😲👍

I used to model years ago (not the photographic kind)...and am a child of the late 50's. So the C-57D project is really getting me interested in watching your process. Doesn't hurt that this remains one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time. I can wait to see how this turns out.

I watched that movie for the first time just a few years ago. I think it was in preparation for this build. Amazing that I had never seen it, despite being your age. Looks like a cool project!

This is a beast of a kit. I built it many years ago but I didn't do anything with the seams between pie wedges. It's incredibly huge when complete and I ended up selling mine when I found that I just didn't have the room for it. I can't wait to see how you do this and I'm sure it'll look amazing!

Best of luck with the build Boyd, I bought the original boxing of this kit, but failed to get a satisfactory assembly of the saucer, so I was lucky to get the later boxing which I haven't started yet. When I bought the original kit I was lucky enough to pick up a fibre glass top dome in the correct shape and a resin kit of the crew with Robbe in the Chariot and some mountain rocks. It needs some 3D printed bracing to stop the warping of the saucer I think. Something I will have a go at some day. Because I have 2 kits, I planned on displaying the 2nd Interior outside the ship as a stand alone model. It will make an awesome diorama if you have the space for it, which sadly most folk don't.

Hi Boyd. I bought this kit when it was first released years ago. Bigger square box then. Never built it due to space. Just what my wife wants to see, a gigantic Forbidden Planet diorama in the family room. You've got me interested though. Can't wait to see your progress. Good luck with the build.

I like the kit interior Boyd and the "entity" on the clear plastic. Those pie wedges look like it's going to be a large diameter once all assembled. Have fun with the build. Like the crew figures.🙂

I’ll be looking forward seeing you work your magic on this beast. I have the same kit but have not started because of the daunting task I have seen online it can be. Many have used bondo to try and fix the wave pattern that can be clearly seen after the top/bottom halves are joined, but it seldom appears ok. I’m hoping to observe your technique in helping me get a game plan on how to take on this behemoth. I love the subject matter and would love to design a rotating fan for display in flight mode. I hope you make your target 2 weeks. Have fun!

Have you built this kit before? The walls of the pie wedges are not perfectly vertical, so that they can get the part out of the mold. A friend did a good job of gluing the pie wedges together, but because of the slope of the sidewalls, the overall shape comes out a bit 'coned' and doesn't sit flat on a table. I have often wondered about how to rectify this and one thought that comes to mind, is to remove one sidewall (left or right) from each pie piece. This defeats the sloping sidewall issues. But then I might have to place a 'backing' piece on the sidewall not removed, for the other piece to nest into. Good luck, look forward to seeing your approach.

Okay-- expensive, dopey idea: make a metal ring for the support of the rim. Get a sheet of aluminum --30x30, 28x28 -- and cut it out with a metal bandsaw or a jigsaw. Make it about an inch, inch-and-a-half deep. You'll need to do some hand work to fit it all in place-- but you're no stranger to that! Or, if you know a metal-working shop...

Hi Boyd I have this kit years ago… I will never build it as I just don’t have room or time to build models these days, I was wondering if you would like it and a Jupiter 2 I bought back then as well… let me know… keep up the fantastic builds and two questions.. 1. Did you every finish the Discovery Enterprise and 2. Did you start back on the 72” Enterprise…

Your work is absolutely awesome, question for ya, did you make a video on the moebius LIS pod, I'm working on mine and purchased the tena controls fusion core, problem I'm having is how to actually install that, there are zero directions for it, looked everywhere. like where would one fit the 9 volt for that? or how to set it up for a plug in, any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, thanks

@@TrekWorks Someone that worked with Greg Jein, Randall Cooper, posted a video 2 days ago on KZbin about working with Jein. Apparently, Jein had been sick for while. I got the heads up about Jein's passing from my smartphone. He made national news because of his work with the Star Trek films and TV series. He did a LOT more than that (Close Encounters, the original Stargate movie) but Star Trek dominates any conversation about his model work...

Here's a wonder: after the box art got the upper dome shape right-- how could the tool shop get it wrong in styrene? I haven't seen the model in years-- so the wrong shape hit me all over again. Send it to me-- send the bottom dome too. Making the dome half n half is a great idea. Getting an air conditioner is another one... c'mon, you spend plenty of time out there, why sweat like a field hand?
