Thank you for a creative and well explained lesson. You are awesome!! I have a brooch where the clasp popped off , and I turned to you tube and found your video. Now I need to get the low temp solder, and watch all of your videos.

Thank you for this great video. I love the brooch but I do have a question do you use flex or soldering paste so the solder flows because I didn’t see the application in the video and I was just wondering it’s very important. I’ll be waiting to hear from you. Thank you so much for replying when you get a chance.

Hi Jan! I have a problem Im following everything but my saunter just turns into a little ball and rolls offf! Help please 😢
@Jansjewels2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you are having problems soldering. I cannot tell you exactly what the problem is since I do not know what you are using. You need solder with an acid core flux. Solder will not stick to the findings without flux. The flux can be bought separate from the solder and is applied first. Your heat source may not be hot enough to work with your solder. Aluminum cannot be soldered. www.jansjewels.com/soldering-paste-soldering-torches-1.html

Hi Jan, this video was extremely helpful! I’m looking for the hat pins on your website and I’m having a bit of an issue finding them. Is there anything beyond “hat pin” that I should be typing in?
@Jansjewels3 жыл бұрын
Hi Shelby. The hat pins are listed under Findings. Here is a direct link to the category: www.jansjewels.com/hat-pins-stick-pins-clutches-sweater-kilt-pins.html

Hello.. FABULOUS tutorials!! Two questions.. do you offer this brooch in a kit?? And also, how do you know when to use a blow torch vs a heat gun?? Thank you!
@Jansjewels3 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew. I use a torch with brass setting. This may require sending the finished piece out to be plated. I use the heat gun with silver plated brass settings and low temperature 300 degree prefluxed solder. These pieces do not need to be plated and will finish nicely. This brooch is not offered as a kit we do sell all the components and the material list is at the end of the video description.

@@Jansjewels thank you! I saw on your web site that you were selling the pendant kit (in your 1st how to video), I’d like to buy two of the kits but turn them into earrings for drag. Would you be able to and the additional components to the order for this? At additional cost of course.
@Jansjewels3 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew. It would be a simple matter of adding a couple of ear clips to the order. You can find the ear clips at www.jansjewels.com/earring-findings-clip-on-1.html. You may actually do better with Starter Kit 2 www.jansjewels.com/Soldering-Starter-Kit-2-Large-Earrings_p_47834.html Here is the video for the kit kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHiQZoKMr52cbpI

@@Jansjewels do you have the same kit without the heat gun?

Hi Jan! I tried this with plated settings and silver solder paste and everything just burnt and the solder didn't really melt. Could it be i'm using the wrong solder? Thank you :) Love your tutorials!
@Jansjewels5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment and question. Yes, the problem is the solder paste you are using is too high a melting temperature. To avoid discoloring the plated settings I use a heat gun with 300 degree melting temperature solder. We have this solder at: www.jansjewels.com/soldering-paste-soldering-torches-1.html

Hello Jen! Your brooch is adorable! And I want to repeat Your tutorial. But in our country I can't find a rhinestone claw settings without holes for sewing on it's sides. I didn't manage to find such claws at online store. Where do You buy/ order Your claw settings or maybe it has special name? How do You call it in English? Maybe I can not find it because of a language barrier))))
@Jansjewels5 жыл бұрын
Hi Anna. Thank you for your question. They are called rhinestone settings, You can use the ones you found with the holes on the side those are called sew-on settings. We have a material list at the end of the video and also at the end of the comments below this video. For this project I used the Chinese settings: www.jansjewels.com/chinese-rhinestone-settings-for-jewelry-making.html Our settings are listed at: www.jansjewels.com/rhinestone-settings.html

Hi Jacqueline. Thank you for your comment and request. I do not have the time to do custom orders. I encourage you to try making some of these soldering projects. We will soon be posting Soldering Starter Kits that have everything needed to start soldering jewelry.
