Mark, I've searched for Curtis Cheek seeds or plants and have not been able find them. Any ideas as to where I can get them? Burpee doesn't have them. Rennisance ( spelling) says they do but when I called their number is no longer in service. Ugh! Help please!

I grow 25-30 varieties every year and I love watching channels like yours for new ideas. I have about 10 that stick around year after year but I'm branching out a ton. Can't wait to see the results!

I just got a mortgage lifter! No idea what variety. Praying I can keep some of these blossoms and this heat wave ceases! Wrote down all the different ones and will definitely be saving seeds. Got some golden nugget cherries, stupice, and a mix called summer harvest with Black Krim, Persimmons, and Colavato (forget that one...hoping for the other two lol) which I’m unsure what actually germinated and grew...another surprise awaits with the three plants that grew. I heard the garden peach is amazing! As long as you don’t mind the fuzziness lol...🥴. Edit Wow, major battle with auto-“correct”...🤦🏼♀️
3 жыл бұрын
To keep the varieties straight , I put little plastic stakes with the name next to each plant. I cut the plastic stakes from the sides of large white drink cups from fast food places. As a backup, I also take a sheet of paper and make a map of the garden, showing the variety. My personal favorite for taste is Boxcar Willie. For production I like Climbing Trip-L-Crop . For size competitions I like the hybrid Big Zac. .
@marksgardenlife59713 жыл бұрын
Hi Derek! That's a wonderful idea with the cups! I have added Trip-L-Crop to my Seed catalog for things to grow in the future... It looks like a very interesting variety... Thank you for that! Best, -Mark

Informative video for tomato varieties. I grow about 20 varieties per year, I've grown a lot of the ones you mentioned. Im going to try Curtis cheek next year, never heard of that one. Anas Noire and Virginia Sweets will be added too. You won't be disappointed with Dester and Green Giant. Two of my favorites. Try Lillian's Yellow, if you like yellow you'll definitely like them, my favorite yellow by far. Keep the dogs in the videos too, they love "helping" in the garden.

Hey! I am going to expand my garden area for next year and try many more varieties I haven't tried yet. A guy from the UK was kind enough to send me a list of what he was growing ( I think he said 60 varieties) and many I have not heard of, so it would be fun to try many of them. I'll put on my website this fall my observations of each variety I've grown for 2021 and probably will list 2020's also. Well, as always, thanks for watching and commenting! Can you plant yet up in Maine? -Mark

I am going to try and do as many videos as I can and you don't know how much I love sharing things with others as well as hearing back from others about their experiences, favorite varieties, etc. Learning and meeting others even just through their words is just so great! Joyce, as always, thanks for watching, commenting. If I ever develop a good number of subscribers in the UK, I want to come over for a few weeks and have some meet and greets with any of my subscribers who would like to meet me, so hopefully in the next few years, I gain some viewers over across the water because I would just love to come over and do some filming and make some new friends! I hear gardening is huge in the UK. -Mark

Hi Kittie! I love my dogs with me as much as possible. With several hundred acres here, they have lots of freedom and get lots of exercise. Annie goes down to the river when it's hot several times a day and swims and I take Holly down since she's to young right now to be on her own and let her cool off too when it's hot. They love the water and have a big time. A great life for large dogs! Kittie, thanks for watching and commenting too! -Mark

Hi Mark, Great work. I'm wondering how you irrigate or fertigate your bed. I don't see any irrigation system. Thank!
@marksgardenlife59713 жыл бұрын
Hi Desire! Thanks! We have had so many rains here lately, I have not had to water at all which typically, I don't. I have a 2" water line that runs the entire length of the garden with hose connections at every isle if I need to water. I don't use fertilizers at all. I guess when I have time, I will add a underground water system with drip irrigation and a hose bib in the ground often enough that I don't have to drag to many hoses for when I have the need to hand water. Desire, thanks for watching and commenting as well! Have a great day! -Mark

Will have to add some of these to the list for next year! I got hit with some blight I think, not really sure because I've never had it before, so some of mine are looking a little ragged. I tried a hydrogen peroxide mixture first then went to a copper fungicide. Not to mention that on Tuesday it was 111 degrees out in June!?! So we will see what kind of damage that did in the next week or so. Best of luck with all your tomatoes!

I have tomato leaf curl up we have had fairly big weather swings hear in the pacific northwest could that be the cause
@marksgardenlife59713 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian! I have personally never encountered this, but according to Missouri Botanical Gardens, Weather conditions and or an inconsistent supply of moisture can cause this, but the overall condition "physiological leaf roll" in some tomato cultivars is "normal and not harmful"... If I were you, I would try using a heavy mulch (straw?) to help stabilize soil moisture... If slugs are a resulting issue, try using Iron Phosphate granules. Good luck! Best, -Mark

@henningbartels62453 жыл бұрын
Mark, what do you do with all the tomatoes? Are you using by your own and your family - or do you sell them? I grow maybe a third in plant numbers and only 8 varieties but this is alredy too much to be honest. Last year I made quite a bit of tomato sauce, ratatouille and tomato chutney just to preserve some. BTW, Schwarze Ananas is my favourite. I would have guessed it is the same as Ananas Noir (becaus it literally the translation) - though the fruits turn orange - yellow here with a blush of red in the flesh.
@marksgardenlife59713 жыл бұрын
Hi Henning! Yes, from what I understand, this appears to be the same tomato. In English it's "Black Pineapple" French "Ananas Noire" and apparently "Schwarze Ananas" in German. I am so glad this tomato is well traveled because it deserves it. That's wonderful that you are preserving the tomatoes!... I have never made Ratatouille... It looks incredible! I do can a lot of tomatoes. I give away most of my tomatoes to friends, family, and the churches and food banks in the area.... Thanks for reaching out! -Mark
@henningbartels62453 жыл бұрын
@@marksgardenlife5971 It just makes use of your zucchini, peppers or eggplants which you add to your tomato sauce. Depending on your additional ingredients and on the region it is called Ratatouille, Ljutenica or Letscho and can be found in various regions in Europe. I have sometimes problems with blossom-end rot on tomatoes: if it is not to big I just cut it out and the tomato is still good to go into some sauce.
