Made a two-part vase in Porcilin that collapsed and now I know why. Let it dry a little more before connecting! Thanks!

Thanks for the great lesson. Threw my first 3 part vessel today and had great success. 11 lbs of clay yielded an 18” pot.

Matthew, you make it look so easy, this is very inspiring, I don't think you know much of a blessing you are to us new potters. Thanks form Florida, Dan

You’re very welcome. I’m sure I don’t as well all are unaware as to our impact. Hence why “It’s a Wonderful Life” is such a classic movie. A good reminder of how much of a blessing we can all be.

It isn’t supposed to be that easy! I have been a hobbyist for 20 years and could not imagine even attempting those shapes and you just touch the clay and it comes to life! Amazing work

Thank you! If you threw as many pots as I have it would be easier for you too. Haha.

You've tried different ways of joining sections, which one do you prefer? You are a wizard with the rib Matt! I practice when I can [between illnesses] and slowly getting the feel for the rib. As a professional you make it look so easy though. Thanks again for all your tutoring etc.

My favorite is the second one. But as a group together on the shelf they make a such a beautiful composite that I would love to buy them all, if I could afford it. ;-) It's not your prices. It's the shipping cost to Canada.

I understand. Yes shipping to Canada would be pricey.

How long do you let the first piece set up? Worry about different drying times. Love the forms, so nice!
@MatthewKellyPottery5 жыл бұрын
They usually set up overnight depending on humidity and temperature. Add the wet piece on leather hard has never given me a problem.

Hey, big fan, watch all your videos.. Quick question: you said the weight of the second piece you added was around 3lbs to 3.5 lbs? is that right? and how much clay did you throw the initial base piece with? Ive been throwing many 2 piece vases and jars recently and ive been having trouble with getting the right amount of clay for the second piece. Either I use too much and the base sags when I add the second piece or I use too little and have incongruent widths..
@MatthewKellyPottery5 жыл бұрын
I had around 9lbs in the bottoms and around 3.5lbs in the tops. Sagging would probably be from the bottom piece not being dried enough or adding too much clay as the top piece. Can’t be certain in your specific example. Good luck.

Great pottery, one suggestion would be better footwork, flat foots don't complement your work.
