As others say - I think playing as a scavenging bounty hunter could be fun. You specifically hunt pirates with a small combat ship to disable them, and then dig through the leftovers to weld to your mobile base.

It *sounds* fun, but one single missile sets us to zero and then I have to spend 1-2 hours putting it back together. I have ~maybe~ 4 hours a week to work on this. Total.

Since this is a commerce run, I think you should maybe start with a small cargo ship. Just so you don't have to resort to piracy right away, Once you have a strong enough ship, you can then choose piracy.

It did seem odd, but I'd never seen that scenario, so watching it my biggest concern was LU smacking into the station and seriously damaging his ship. I had no idea that would have been better than what did happen...

Perhaps one of the ships he attacked was a relative of a cop or a retired cop or perhaps they'd recently worked out what happened to their colleague at that trade station who suffered an 'unfortunate accident'? That's the sort of thing that's going to get a lot of them riled up at what they'd normally consider small fry...

Using the assembler, you can disassemble all the parts to ingots to save inventory space heavily. You may want to add a filter conveyor to make it automatically do it.

I personally dont like loading saves. I would love to see another attempt. One idea i had tho: if you go for another "pirate run" it would be awesome to make the ship look as much like an actual pirateship as possible. Have a centered mast for the solar panel sail and stuff.

Maybe do another playthrough, but you specifically hunt down pirates to grow your ship Edit: alternatively do a playthrough on a planet and have smallish rovers that go out and salvage parts to then bring back to construct a base or ship

Have to point out that these are the consequences of your actions coming back to bite you in the butt. If you are utilizing Scrapyard - MES Wreckage and Ruins Mod you should have some more legitimate forms of salvage operations available to utilize for your method of strategically transporting equipment to alternate location.

I agree with some of the other comments: I think you should just restart but focus more on the "commerce" part of the playthrough. Pretty much everything that was added to your ship this time was done via piracy. Could try starting with a bigger ship that allows you to do more missions but unable to do stuff like refining/etc so you have to either buy materials or use services to get what you need to build a base.

I think perhaps you find that you respawn at a scruffy survival kit in an abandoned orbital scrapyard with some new fake ID that should keep the cops and civs happy for now (let's not think too hard about what the person [or perhaps Mushroom ;-)] who went to the effort to arrange that might want from you later on) and you set about cobbling together your new ship from other people's trash (in keeping with the spirit of the Bin Chicken [RIP]). May I suggest an initial name of "A Pile of Ship"? What you do once you set off from there is up to you, at least until certain demands are made of you by your mysterious benefactor, but probably best to avoid any major piracy until you have some decent weapons... UPDATE: Having seen your comment about how little time you have to put into this and given how long it would take to set up the above even if the idea did appeal to you, perhaps a simpler version would be that you respawn at a survival kit on a different ship with fake ID and a datapad containing a note from an anonymous benefactor that this ship is now yours and you owe them big time, they will be in touch...

The refinery is actually a friendly place but they don't like people locking connectors. You need to deposit the ores into the collector to sell; the items you buy will come out of the connector you locked into, so you also need a collector. I made the same mistake a few days ago but they're friendly otherwise. I'd love for you to reload the save, the refinery station is pretty good and useful

@@LargelyUnemployed I'm confused... the Economy Update came out in 2019, half a decade ago. Another youtuber (I forgot who, it was some time ago) had a series where he'd monitor and log price changes that occur periodically (they change at the same time the contracts change) and found a bit of a pattern, so he knew not only when the lowest prices would happen, but the highest ones, *and* at which stations. He ended up figuring out which items had the best profit between all the variables and would buy as much as he could at the bottom of the market, hold then for the right cycle, then travel to the one that would pay the most for them at the right time. It was far more interesting than I would've expected. IIRC, he ended up using the credits to buy a huge ship at the end. :)

As a newer player, I’ve learned so much from using the mod scenarios. I’m playing Scrapyard right now, but this one seems really fun as well and it seems like I could learn things from it. Plus, piracy is fun. So many ideas from watching others play these challenges and scenarios. Space Engineer YTers are a gift that keeps on giving. Kudos to you

can use the left click and hold for moving blocks to keep them in place and the standard rotation controls to spin them around, right click also make you grab the center of mass

since the survival kit was still functional when the video cut, you could end up back with only a suit and go to the nearest shipyard to do some search contracts until you can buy the cheapest ship, maybe salvage your survival kit to put back on the new ship?

If you want to do commerce, a good idea would be to restrict assembling components and instead buy them. Install a mod that add some wrecks so you can salvage for the parts or components. If you don't want to focus on piracy too much, you can wait for some battles betwen rival companies ex. INCON vs PARALAX, those battles fetch juicy loot but with some risks like turrets that are still powered. So in resume Commerce, salvage and a bit of piracy. BTW rip Bin Chiken.

HOWEVER, in space engineers, on account of the game engine being 16 years old, blocks DO NOT LOSE MASS when they lose components. one of the worst things you can possibly do to someone is to drop their ship into planetary gravity and then cover it in refineries to spike its mass.

Unfortunately, Space Engineers assigns block mass to blocks based on what it would weigh if all the pieces were installed in it, not how many pieces are presently in the block, so removing pieces won't make things easier to move. If also results in the weird side effect of creating mass, since removing components from a block and storing them in cargo means you duplicate their mass for the grid. Goofy Space Engineers Engine things!

I believe that the scrapyard mod -- over writes the hacking computer mod --- when you "showed what you could make in the full size assembler I did not see the "hacking chip" that is where it should be -- Granted that one of the "spawning ships" ** might have it. you may have to rearrange the load order .... I think it would be really fun to role play like you got caught by police and had to stay on a prison station for a while. Then when we return, you can start again with what money you do have and have to build up again from nothing, buying whatever ship you can from a station and doing odd jobs again. I get that might be a bit more of a time commitment though, so I would understand if you can't. Do the crime, do the time. (then maybe do the crime again when you're better prepared, lol)

What I had meant was no piracy for scrapping the ship and then selling the parts. Only use piracy if you need a part for the Ibis/Bin Chicken or need materials badly. Scavenging is fine and if you were attacked first it is ok. Overall I think the main way you should get money and materials is from mining, commerce, or missions Edit: I would say reload save

I would say restart, maybe start planetary, or do a full merchant run, where you speed through a bit of the game until you have a decent sized ship with storage and some self defense weapons then you start going around and buying and selling stuff, doing missions, and setting up some small bases for resource collection or little fuel and power depot and maybe some stuff with drones or some small grid ships that stick with the big ship and defend it. Edit: reload save, use this as an idea for another playthrough.

If you speed through to get a decent ship, I would say delete the infrastructure that you set up to get there after you got full batteries and fuel so that it is closest to you starting with just the ship

I think you should restart from scratch. You unfortunately met the consequences of your actions, plus this was a commerce play through but you did far more pirating than commerce. It may have been slightly out of necessity but I think you can do a far better job with just commerce the next time around.

The hacking chip mod makes it too easy to hack ships and it doesn't affect your reputation. I've used it, but decided it's more of a cheat mod. Unless (I had a fun idea and paused at 2:55 to comment this) you only place it on your own ship and merge your ship with an enemy ship, or attach it using a rotor head on an enemy ship and a rotor on your ship. Then at least you'll have to take risks.

Don't know whether anyone tried it, would it be more cost effective if the directional thruster (I.e. the up n down thruster) attached to a rotor so that the thruster can be used more efficiently for forward n backward movement? Something like the harrier jump jet
