Great Video , but you have to understand that there were a lot of wars in Europe and Asia before the world wars. Nothing what you seeing here is suprising at all ,Greece for example had it's independce war against the ottomans in 1821 ,Russia fought against Britain France and Turkey (ottoman empire) in the crimean war of 1853 , then there was the Balkan war , the Franco- prussian which led to the creation of germany and so much more ! there were many Wars going on in that century which changed the history of Europe and Asia keep that in mind. it's really not suprising to see those numbers.

Also this list is only about Army size it can change in the case of war. If you talking about Overall military, Weapons and things like that the Top 10 would be different. to your question about Vietnam they have around 100milion people in their Country which is crazy Lol.

The reason why India didn't have a large army in the 19th Century is because it did not exist as a country until after the second world war.

@Honest Reaction I am not sure if you are familiar with how the century counting works. The first century is regarded as year 1 to year 100, the second century is regarded as year 101 to 200. If you follow this on you will see that 1947 is in the 20th Century and therefore India did not exist as a country until after the 19th Century. It can confuse people because 1947 starts with a "19" but you are not the only person to make this mistake. That is the reason India had no army in the 19th Century, it had not been founded. Also the founding of India in 1947 occurred AFTER the end of the second world war which is generally accepted to have finished in 1945.

Some nations have smaller militaries than you would expect because they are more technologically advanced and so don't need as much raw manpower The United States, Germany, England Japan, etc. Most First World rich very much tech savy nations are like this. Conversely, poor nations have to have larger armys because they aren't as technologically advanced and so more old fashioned and so are more labor intensive. They have to rely on sheer brute force of numbers to get the job done. North Korea and until about 20 years ago, China. In the case of China, it has both today, a huge by numbers military and it is reasonably tech advanced, and of course a very large economy to afford it. So is India in the same way to a lesser extent. Some nations militaries are smaller because they lost population most due to territory lost. Like the Soviet Union was not just Russia, but also other countries that today are independent from Russia. Like the Ukraine and Russia were part of the Soviet Union, but today Ukraine is an independent nation, so their military numbers are not part of the Russian total like she was when they were part of the Soviet Union.
