Tucked away in the ‪@mobotvideo‬ are some unassuming greenhouses that house the United States' largest private research collection of Aroids in the family Araceae, which include well-known plants like Philodendron, Anthurium, Spathiphyllum, Monstera, Rhaphidophora, Alocasia, Colocasia, Amorphophallus-and some lesser known genera including Rhodospatha and Steudnera, for example.
In this episode (Part 2 of 2), we tag along with the Aroid Greenhouse curator, Emily Colletti, who has the tall task of not only keeping up with Dr. Tom Croat's, (the world's leading expert on New World Araceae) constant flow of living material-but also taking care of nearly 3,700 different plants.

I am amazed how these aroids grow in very small pots, are root bound, and have very little soil. So, as she said that once they attach themselves to the wall, they don't depend on or do not get anything from the soil/pot anymore. How I wish to have a massive space for my houseplants, too! Hi I'm from Indonesia, where the Epipremnum amplissimum originally native to (Papua is one of them). As far as I knew, E.amplissimum have 3 forms (green, silver stripe, and full silver). cmiiw 🙏🏼 I've already collected 3 of them. They're such a amazing species.

Aroids are my favorite! I really like that the plants have a mind of their own, particularly when their desired conditions are met! I like the Philodendrons that look like the Selloum, but are not. I also have to remember that Syngoniums have that Nephtys name too! Loved the tour!

I could watch this for hours. The plants are all so beautiful! I have to laugh that Emily isn't sure how to pronounce the Latin names. I am the president of an amateur mycological society and we all pronounce the Latin names with our own flair. I know so many descriptive Latin words from mycology that I can decipher some characteristics of a plant by its species name. Looking at you, Anthurium atropurpureum...atro = dark, purpureum = purple. Learning the Latin really is helpful, although daunting.

I love learning the Latin meanings. If I have the time, if I find a new one (one actually just came up recently that I couldn't place)-I go and look it up. Also love that you run a mycological society!

This tour is definately awsome ..... the plants just blow my mind. This video is something that always put me on the track for the aroid lover. I am starting with my first aroid about 2 years ago.... on my early 50s .... many people said it was bit too late te to start of.
