Great purchase. Just my own personal and humble opinion, but they are one of the nicest engines out there!!

A great find for $600 Nick! Congratulations! Like yourself I'm an admirer of the Big Boy but don't feel a pressing need to own one. I've got my regional-specific N&W Y6b and that's as far as I'm going to go with articulateds. ( Although if I see a BB at a steal price I might just jump on it!) I wouldn't concern myself with a B&O specific coal train, there's plenty of photographic evidence of coal trains with a mix of hoppers from different 'roads. Hey, if that thing's as heavy as you say it is it probably doesn't need traction tires! When they wear out on one of my engines and the engine doesn't miss them I just leave them off. Fun video, and thanks for sharing your new find with us!

Thanks so much for watching! Oh yeah those are awesome engines. Y6B would be pretty amazing! Oh very true! I need some to mix in the others. I’d keep some C&O / Western Marylands in the mix

Awesome engine Nick. Those cab curtains are a nice touch that you don't see on many engines.

Nice Cumberland mention. Awesome looking engine, and I can relate to your Big Boy comment. Sounds great! I like your club's rerailer too. I know what you'll be looking for at York, I have a couple coal loads I just made drying.

Wow she's a beauty! Congrats. Loved the video and I caught that watchman with the work group. I agree with you on the big boy. I would love a Santa Fe 2-10-10-2. I like seeing this one because I'd love some articulated from this area. Stay safe.

Thanks for watching! I’m definitely on the lookout for a watchman / flag man for the layout. Those are really cool! I’ve seen those a few times along with the Erier Angus / articulated engines

Being a Reading buff their articulated N1 in original form is my #1 favorite. But the Allegheny and other C&O mallets, N&W mallets, B&O EM1 are all awesome. Western road engines I like are either AT&SF or SP. The only UP big loco I like is 9000. Big Boy is KOOL but can’t say I’m a big fan of it like many others are. So I concur with your feelings on the matter. Nice video I’m sure we will cross paths on the R&N trackside or aboard the train again.

Thanks so much for watching! There are so many cool engines out west that are definitely on my list. I wonder if these ever entered Reading territory because of the B&O / CNJ / Reading partnership/ stock share. Would be pretty interesting. Definitely!

Why Lionel built these beautiful, scale models and then gave them only two chuff per revolution is beyond me. This giant should have had 4 chuff/revolution to be prototypical. I agree with you about the whistle though, even though it's not the right whistle, it's one of the best whistles Lionel (or anyone) has ever recorded or produced - TMCC, ERR, PS2, PS3 or Legacy, this whistle stands alone.
@PhilBender6129 ай бұрын
Hey, Nick, try hitting Aux1 + 7. Some of these older engines will say "you are clear" when you press 7, and then if you hit Aux1 and then 7, it gives you a please wait or please hold message. Some of my older lionel Kline TMCC engines do that.

Thanks so much for watching! I’ll have to try that next time she’s fired up. 🚂💨

Nick, great video. I got the same model in 2022. It was my first Lionel TMCC engine and got me to setup TMCC on my DCS layout. I too have no desire to get a Big Boy since my layout focus is Harpers Ferry, WV. I've focused my steam collection on VA & Potomac River RR like WM, C&O, B&O, Chessie & NW. Up until the EM-1 I collected MTH almost exclusively. But MTH doesn't offer a lot of B&O steam (would love a big six someday). Would like you to visit my layout once its a bit more presentable. Now I know how to use Tower Com, thanks.

Thanks so much for watching! This engine is such a beautiful piece. Just as an FYI. The drive shaft is known to strip away from the U Joint. This can be fixed with a pin. That’s awesome with those road names. Please send me an email, would love to check out the layout / film.

There are three surviving "Yellowstone" locomotives from the Duluth, Missabi & Iron Range railway in Proctor, Duluth, and Two Harbors, Minnesota, respectively. The best-preserved example is located inside the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, and they even have it rigged up where the wheels move. Very cool to see in person. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYWlaqaOhZeGabM

What a spectacular locomotive you have! The whistle sounds really awesome I would agree with you on it! Btw I really like your p&le hopper car you have and all of the other hoppers including the Tuscan red Pennsylvania hoppers btw what brand of the Pennsylvania hoppers are made from especially the first one?
@NixCrossing9 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! So all the hoppers are Weaver Ultra-Line / Plastic construction. All are mixed era but are metal sided. Weaver also made wood sides. Hope this helps

Beautiful model! I love that whistle as well! I actually like it better than the newer Legacy version. What button is smoke boost on the tmcc remote? Does it work the same with the Cab 1L? Btw I loved your MTH PS3 upgrade video. Keep posting the great content!
@NixCrossing9 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! This model runs so nicely with the Cab1 that I use at home and Cab1 L I use at the club. The Cab1 L at the club is programmed to out legacy Cab 2 Base. Smoke boost is holding down 9 on the Cab1 & Cab1 L. I only recommend to boost in moderation. Thanks so much, I have a bunch of mods planned

Beautiful locomotive, you may however, want to watch the video done by Norm's Trains on how he fixed his drive system when it went wonky, seems to be a common problem with this particular engine, not a non-fixable problem however, pretty easy fix.

Hello, I came across your video on this B&O EM-1 LIONEL and I to purchased this engine recently but as of yet have not run mine at all (no layout yet) so I was wondering maybe you would know can this engine be upgraded on the chuffs per revolution to four as opposed to just two as your unit showed in your review when running it any info that you can relay would be appreciated? It is a tough looking piece and I really like the job that LIONEL did for this earlier model that they produced. THANK YOU.
@NixCrossing8 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I think they did their best with the sounds, but yes it would have to be modded with a chuff generator programmed for articulated engines. I believe the legacy model sounds pretty similar as well. I know the MTH articulated engines sound a lot better in relation to the chuffs.
