Hi. I'm a producer with the TV station KSAT 12. I was wondering if we could use this incredible drone video for a story we are doing on this illegal dumping site. Of course, we would give you credit for the video.

As I saw you already ran a story, I am not sure if you are still in need of this video. If you re-link to my video and maybe ask people to subscribe to my channel, you are welcome to use parts of the video. After all, I am trying to get more subscribers for this channel.

Hike the Sky To both of you, great videos on exposing the news about this illegal dump. I hope this illegal dump gets shut down by the EPA in the near future.

There are not many ways how I can promote my channel, so allowing TV stations to use parts of my video and linking to the original video is one way. I actually got a couple of subscribers from that. But when I can license a video I prefer this of course.

I know a guy who is doing this but putting them in his old quarry on his property. He has been doing it for 10 plus years now. The quarry is huge and over 150 ft deep. He has made a killing from doing this.

Isn't he worried that his water well will get poisoned?

You really should report it to the tceq (Texas commission of environmental quality) so it can get cleaned up. You can even report it anonymously by phone or online. Tires are no big deal just sitting, but they often catch fire and will burn for months depending on the amount which produces extremely hazardous air pollutants that are know carcinogens and can even lead to mandatory evacuations in some cases. Just look up videos of large tire fires. After a large tire fire the remains are also toxic and hazardous. For your own health and for the sake of people living around him you really should report this so that it does not become a huge issue later on.

I can't imagine how many millions they made, how many people were thinking that they paying for responsible recycling of there used tires.
@HikeTheSky7 жыл бұрын
+Frank Ziola the problem is TCEQ or also known as Texas Commission of Environmental Quality. They do not enforce current laws when it comes to businesses but they want to enforce them with individuals when it makes absolutely no sense. Actually there are a few of theses organizations in Austin that are filled with people that don't care.
@frankziola77107 жыл бұрын
this is cool, people need to go after the government for neglect of there duties. we pay them for a service, that clearly is being abused
@HikeTheSky7 жыл бұрын
+Frank Ziola actually this was the responsibility of a company and the government just should have made the company pay for the clean up years ago.

We have a same problem here in Stawell Victoria Australia. The stockpile has been shuffled around from owner to owner and now, no body wants to take ownership of the clean up. The main problem here is the bureaucratic red tape associated with running and operating a tyre/tire recycling business. So many hoops to jump through at the end of the day, some just take the money for the disposal of the tyres/tires and do nothing with them. Just stockpile them. At AUD$2.50 per passenger and AUD$4.50 per truck tyre/tire. You can imagine the money one can make buy just accepting and stockpiling... I just found a huge stockpile on Google Earth in Kuwait. Apparently there are over 7 Million tyres/tires stockpiled.... We had a tiny stockpile down in Melbourne that went up in flames. That was around the 10 thousand mark.... Check it out in my videos if you like. Anyway, Great video. I love drone footage. Cheers.

Fly your drone while they are dumping and give it to the authorities.

Makes me wonder if this is where my "proper tire disposal fee" went to. Con artists! Or, hopefully, to actually prevent this crap.
@HikeTheSky8 жыл бұрын
In this case there isn't much that can be done as the original owner probably already drank the money away. But with my drone it makes it very easy to check out what companies do in their back yards as this probably didn't happen in just a day. Please make sure to subscribe to my channel so these videos get better promoted by KZbin and more people get aware of this problem.

That fee isn't regulated by the state anymore. So, it might have gone right into the company's pockets.
@asknotwhatucan99518 жыл бұрын
I see an opportunity to locate a tire recycling operation.
@HikeTheSky8 жыл бұрын
The problem is that you can't just put them into recycling. For some reason there is a law against it.
@asknotwhatucan99518 жыл бұрын
If it is truly illegal in Texas, then they've just created this mess as a consequence of their laws. Too bad, looks like a perfect location and building.
@HikeTheSky8 жыл бұрын
The problem is that the tires were for so long outside of the recycling circle that they are not allowed to get in to. But it was said that other things could be made out of it like park benches and other stuff. But they are not allowed to get back into the usual tire recycling.
@HikeTheSky7 жыл бұрын
+AsknotwhatUcan the building is usable and the tires can be recycled. But not as tires. It would be able to just give them to a tire recycling company. They would love to take them but can't. So they have to go through recycling that isn't made for tires. We have weird laws in Texas that don't account for people that don't follow the law.

I look at those piles and all I can think of is money, it's a shame some people are too stupid and not resourceful enough to turn a problem into profit.
@HikeTheSky6 жыл бұрын
It was cheaper for the original company to take the money and leave them there and the Texas Environmental agency has a law that prohibited to recycle these tires. So this minimized the options for profits. I saw an article that they are supposed to be removed soon, so I will make an updated video sometimes soon.
@WilliamStewart16 жыл бұрын
Hike The Sky At a job I did a few years back in Canada they had a machine that chewed up the tires, separated the steel cords for recycling, and then turned the left over rubber into Diesel. Ever since then I have never looked a pile of tires the same, drove me nuts going through the backside of Pittsburgh not too long ago and seeing a ton of tires.

If it was easy to turn old tyres into a profit we wouldn't have this problem.

@HikeTheSky8 жыл бұрын
That's one of the two major problems. The other of course is that tires are not very environmentally friendly, so they over time release toxic chemicals into the water stream. Something has to be done ASAP with that tire dump.
