In NC off of hwy 485 in mint Hill there is a hole filled with large rock fill. That hole was originally just a patch of woods behind my house as a toddler. I played in those woods all the time even our Christmas trees came from the woods. As 485 was being dug out they actually dug up a quarts rock covered in crystal the size of a minivan. I went with my father and removed pieces with a mattock and sledge hammer. We gave them away as gifts but I kept the biggest piece about the size of my fist. If we had the right tools we could have broken off crystals the size you show in your thumbnail. Thanks for hearing my story! Good luck finding your own treasure!

Maybe get to keep 1 or 2 specimens as a keepsake of our time. Heck, I’d probably do it for free… just to get the opportunity to be one of the first to pluck a museum quality gem from Mother Earth.
