Thanks for the vids your uploading bro - they're awesome! I would like to ask you two questions: 1. What kind of yacht (size, type) would you need to do a circumnavigation of the globe (if it's even possible)? I'm talking about motor yachts now, not sailing yachts. 2. What's the largest yacht in size you can navigate on your own without having to rely on crew?

Mary Decouvertes A good rule of thumb is you'll likely want/need a captain for anything over 60 feet.
@mikemesser43266 жыл бұрын
I think I read up on a 95 foot yacht that was considered the largest yacht one could legally dock in the USA without a certified Captain. But I agree with Nolen. Unless you are very experienced or just love damaging your yacht, the docks, and paying fines for wake damage ... that 60 foot figure is a good one.

I guess whether it will be called a yacht or not refers, as Shawn already said, to who owns it. By no means is this a yacht by size. It's a fucking ship !!! I'm no expert of course but have always considered everything with more than 1 skipper crew to not be a yacht anymore. If you can't start it up and sail away yourself, I dont think it's considered a yacht anymore.

I don't know why people say that the color is strange. It makes it unique and is quite elegant. It gives it a real richness and warmth to something that is so large. If it were stark white, it would be just another white whale on the seas. I wonder what the interior is like. I'd bet it's mind blowing. I wouldn't turn down an invitation to come aboard!! Kudos to the designer and builder AND all the people who created this awesome craft. Cheers!

One could easily sell all Properties on Land and actually *live* on this Megayacht for the rest of life. Lürssen i would say is the number one address worldwide when you wanna get one of these. They recently bought the Blohm + Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, where Eclipse and other Megayachts were built. I live in Hamburg and have seen Eclipse with my own Eyes. The Videos don`t do these Yachts justice. You have to see them in person. Gigantic. Very impressive.
@NeoMK6 жыл бұрын
I used to work for the company that provided Satellite communications to both Dilbar and Eclipse. After being on hundreds of super yachts throughout the world, you realize that you are more comfortable at home, in your own bed. Super Yacht owners rarely use them, most super yachts are chartered most of the time. It's a cool life, however at the end of the day it's very unfulfilling.
@marydecouvertes37896 жыл бұрын
In what way was it unfulfilling? And by the way do the owners of these megayachts greet and talk to their crew on board or do they keep their distance?
@NeoMK6 жыл бұрын
Most owners really don't engage with the crew. They're treated more as paid servants, but not disrespected. Yacht crews have a super high level of etiquette and attention to detail. Everything has to be perfect and you won't find them saying things like "hey what's up man". Think of a 5 star hotel. They definitely treat contractors differently than owners or the captain. They'll get really rude with you if you're doing something you aren't supposed to because they're responsible for your actions and whereabouts. But if you stay in check they're really awesome people. Outside of the boat is a different story, when they take you out on the town it gets really wild and fun. They work everyday cleaning the boat, inside and out. After a rain they're outside with shammys wiping it down. It's quite ridiculous to be honest, but it makes for a clean boat. I found it unfulfilling after about 4 years. It's like... meh, just another broken piece of junk yacht that I have to fix in a beautiful landscape.
@marydecouvertes37896 жыл бұрын
Thank you for answering! I suppose the female crew members are average looking, in order to not attract to much of the wrong kind of attention (if you know what I mean)? What faux pas could a contractor be committing that would provoke the crew? What are the wages, do the crew members really make more on a luxurious yacht than on an average hotel? Does the crew hang out with contractors on their onshore adventures as a part of the renting deal?
@NeoMK6 жыл бұрын
No, actually the female crew are very attractive and fit usually. Contractors are supposed to adhere to rules, don't go where you aren't supposed to, work cleanly, don't scratch ANYTHING, don't wear backpacks, ask for permission before boarding, etc. The crews are paid fairly but they have 0 expenses other than what they spend going out on the town or shopping. There is a difference between contractors and charter guests. Charters rent the yacht out. Contractors work on the systems onboard. The crew are just really cool people as long as you don't screw anything up and fix their systems and if they are able they will take you out for a drink after work is complete. They're sailors after all and they do enjoy a drink!

Why do the richest people in the world, who can afford these giant plagues on the ocean, feel the need to flag their vessel in the tax haven of Georgetown, Grand Cayman and therefore avoid the fair and due taxes owed by them to localities, which support the marine environment in which they travel? A regular Joe has to pay the proper taxes on their mere 40' sailboat, which adds a lot to the high cost of a boat in the first place. The rich get richer by getting through loopholes that us common folk can't seem to get to the end of the month.
