A long time ago, surfing videos, I stumbled upon two girls playing in a store. It was "Long hard fall" at Union Music Store in 2011. Since then I've been hooked to Larkin Poe. Although the first "seasons" EPs and "Thick as Thieves" are the ones I hold dear, I'm really happy to see these girls getting some recognition.

Is it just me or is the audio pretty weird? Mixing background noise with their voices, sounding out of phase or something.

A good friend of mine was a big fan of theirs and I didnt really pay them much attention..... until they started putting out those covers during lockdown and I heard their version of Bell Bottomed Blues..... Man, after that.... I was a fan. Best version of that song I've heard in decades. These ladies are proper music lovers.

Do yourself a favor and grab some tickets next time they come to a town near you. I missed out on a 2020 concert (rescheduled many times and finally played in 2022). I jumped on tickets for their 2023 tour, and it was an absolute blast! They're even better on stage!

I wanna see your new custom slide steel. I remember, years back, there was a country guy who played a regular, dare I say "normal" guitar with a slide guitar angled off the bottom. Is your new slide somehow a variation of this?
@rcdubya7 күн бұрын
I think you’re thinking of Junior Brown who plays/played a Tele/lap steel combo. But, no, Megan had a family friend help her build a brace (I believe it was aluminum) for her Rickenbacker lap steel that she has played for years. She played the dobro (standing up, of course) when she and Rebecca started out with their older sister, Jessica, when they started in bluegrass as the Lovell Sisters. And Rebecca was an award-winning mandolin player. And I’ll second the recommendation to see them live. I had a chance to see them when they were playing a gig back in Atlanta (they grew up in Calhoun, GA) in 2018, and got to chat with them. I’m 75 now, and they are literally one of the best live acts I have ever seen. And they are as nice and down-to-earth as they appear here. They won a Grammy a couple of years ago, and just recently won an Americana Music Award, and their husbands aren’t too shabby either. Rebecca is married to Tyler Bryant, and Megan to Mike Seal.

@rcdubya God bless you for the info. I love music and the talented people who make it. Reading your info is all the entertainment I could ask for on this December Nighy. I love slide guitar when it's done "just right" as an old friend used to say. He turned me on to some wonderful and unique music. One of my "guilty pleasure" songs is Gerry Rafferty's "Stuck In the Middle With You". The slide guitar is like the whipped cream, with a cherry on top of the song.

@ I’m with you. I love slide guitar, probably from Duane, and Megan is truly a force. Another tidbit of trivia…Megan was a big fan of Jerry Douglas (her husband played with Jerry), but David Lindley was an inspiration for her with his playing on Jackson Brown’s Running on Empty.

@@endezeichengrimm, a "sommelier" is a wine steward at a restaurant. They are the people who come to your table and help you select the right wine to go with your meal. So, the person they talked about helped Megan pick the right instrument to change from playing a dobro (acoustic) to a lap steel (electric) guitar.
