I never thought that the harshness of the cockpit was to aggrivate the drivers by design. I thought it was to save weight and have the necessities. Plus, I haven't heard of a series swtiching the buttons around just to make it more difficult, too. F1, Indy, and GT have similar controls just by natural selection of design. I think this is fishy, considering the vision issue is just as valid a criticism to the road version of the Camaro. How can you see in that thing?
@bremCZ
@bremCZ Жыл бұрын
It's not too aggravate drivers by design. It's to make driver ability more important, and reduce the difference between the enginners. The wheels haven't been changed to make it more difficult, they've been changed to make it cheaper for teams build the cars.
@markwhit

The only important design for a cockpit should be safety #1 and driver comfort #2 They've failed at #2 and it's too early to tell on safety.....I could say cooking drivers and having them so hot is not safe
@bremCZ

@@markwhit Some teams failed at number 2. They adopted a new tech that doesn't work as well as the existing one. Those that engineered it well had no issues.

What was the actual logic behind removing the anti-roll bars from the car?
@anthonygraham2334
@anthonygraham2334 Жыл бұрын
It the forces the driver to drive the car with compromised settings, meaning it’s more about the driver and less about the car apparently. I liked watching the drivers (like SVG) change these sorts of things but whatever.
@JimOHalloran
@JimOHalloran Жыл бұрын
A general theme of a lot of Gen 3 is to make performance less about the car, and more about the driver. While also taking some of the cost out of the category. More control parts in the engine, chassis, suspension, etc mean less things for the engineers to play with and spend money on trying to get a "perfect" car. So, I'd imagine the idea was to take cockpit adjustable bars away (I'm sure they're still there, and probably still adjustable, just between sessions, not between corners) and make the car setup setup imperfect (for at least part of the stint). Then make the drivers drive around it, let them do some of that "magic driver stuff" as Larko would call it. We might also see some teams optimise balance for full tanks, and hope to get a gap and defend it later, vs another team that set their bars so the car would come on later in the stint. Different cars at different speeds at the same time should improve the show for the punter.
@midslam
@midslam Жыл бұрын
They still have the ARBs they're just not in-car adjustable anymore. So they have to be setup with the car, or changed during a pit stop.

I understand the reasons for the changes and the look of the new cars, but I don't agreed that they are better looking then the old ones. V8 SC's had a unique look in world racing, now they just look like many other series. And from the comments I've seen this week, it seems the drivers are also not big fans of the new cars.

Wouldn't you think in this day and age they could cool the cockpit, even run air con give them an extra 20kw to make up for it
@TheFridge
@TheFridge Жыл бұрын
Drivers air supply is chilled and piped into the helmet. They have also been wearing cool suits for a while now as well. I understand the concern, but driver safety is always in mind when designing these things. Safety includes disability from many sources, including how likely a driver is to become impaired from heat.

Do not sit in a Camaro with Dry Ice in the wrong side. Larko could get sacked again. Disqualified from service due to a minor error in words or techincality. When another team breaches the rules for something minor, make sure the team is eliminated from competition for the rest of the season.

I don't know which hand was in which pocket, but this has ruined V8 Supercars. Our cars were known for being different, and now they are just American muscle rip-offs. And now removing driver aids is just making them easier to drive. We don't want easy to drive American muscle.
@StuartVaughan47
@StuartVaughan47 Жыл бұрын
Those things removed weren't driver aids. They were setup adjustments that were overcomplicating something that didn't need to be. The focus has been shifted back to driver input rather than technicalities, which in theory should have a positive impact on the racing. The average punter on the hill doesn't care what in-car adjustments can be made, they just want to see racing. Not to mention these things added cost.
@midslam
@midslam Жыл бұрын
@@StuartVaughan47 The drivers care, hence so do the fans. And neither wanted the changes because they didn't see them as over-complicated, they saw them as useful tools. ARB adjustors were aids, because they aided the driver in balancing the car mid-race. But it's not our call. It should be the DRIVERS call. And they weren't listened to at all.
@markwhit

GEN3 is the biggest failure in Supercars history! They don't work, are not practical. They are too tight inside and the repairability is too slow. Courtney 50kph impact and it couldn't be fixed!
@Ryzza5
@Ryzza5 Жыл бұрын
Is that just because it's race 1 and teams haven't built up a large enough supply of spares yet?
@markwhit
@markwhit Жыл бұрын
@@Ryzza5 it wasnt because of the spares, upon reading an article from Supercars the new front clip just wouldn't line up. It had bent more than expected and they needed to remove the engine that is now bolted to the firewall to see where the bend is and work out why it wouldn't fit. Many people are now calling out Supercars on the repairability of this new car
