@@95v37 That's what people who never watched it always say, I know it's cool for new school fans to act like every fighter back then was useless compared to now but guys like Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Fedor Emelianenko, Mirko Cro Cop, Josh Barnett, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Dan Henderson, Georges St Pierre, Frank Shamrock and Matt Hughes would still be successful if they came up in this era. Not saying they could all beat current champions of the divisions they were in but let's not act like they still wouldn't be contenders or wouldn't have chances.

I feel like joe had a big MMA thing, like the way he would go after boxing and the way they promote it. This was the first UFC event I ever saw. I rented the dvd from the “new release” section of my local video store. I immediately fell in love with the sport and couldn’t believe I’d never heard anyone talk about it before. Luckily for me my local video store had all 39 of the UFCs events, so over the next month or so I watched the entirety of the UFC, haven’t missed an event since. Tito cops a lot of shit for the very special things he’s said, but he’ll always be a legend in my eyes. He was the UFCs first star, he helped put the sport on the map and he was the guy that made me never want to miss a single fight.

Shamrock thinking he could mix it with the new breed, ironically, was exactly what eventually happened to Ortiz. Ortiz was a savage on the floor, and really was the first to be super active with the ground and pound ,when still in guard. Trouble was,he never had any hands, which was his undoing. In his prime his fitness and work ethic was on another level to anyone else.

Say what you want but Shamrock gave it his all in this fight. He hadn’t fought in 6 years, let alone against a dominant champion. He looked pretty damn good considering that, and almost knocked Tito out with that punch in round one and his striking was better then Tito’s at times that’s why Ortiz had to take him down that second round. Also for ken to get out from under Ortiz and back to his feet several times says so much about his fighting spirit to win.

Funny how Tito was great at dishing the taunts, yet when it was his turn to take it from Chael he turned into Ken giving those wierd threats and getting butthurt.
