I love Bird so much I could make 500 videos on him but even though that's my childhood hero (Bird & Marino) I still don't wonder off in to the realm of delusion...since a kid I've seen the greats play with my own two eyes from the late 80's 90's and early 2000's Mike, Bird, Wilkins, Malone, Stockton, Bernard King, Magic, Reggie Lewis, Penny, Shaq, Kobe, Kidd, Iverson, Reggie Miller, Big Dog Robinson, Vince...etc. some I've either caught them on they're last leg at the end or was too young to see them play at all so I can't tell you Kareem, Wilt or Russell is the GOAT because I did see them play in they're prime i'ma tell you Hakeem is the Greatest big man I've ever seen so I kinda understand when these young boys argue you down about LeBron (Like my nephew 17) because that's all he's seen (I get it) but going back to Kareem Wilt Bill and all the other greats, I've mostly seen them on grainy old film but I respect the history and what they've done in there era without question!these kids leave comments like "This is a old head channel from an old head's perspective" haaaaaaaaa not wanting to learn about the past players being irrationally suborn and it frustrates me having to hear these young boys just spew insanity blindly over and over lol Well kids the baddest MFers I've seen play was Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Hakeem....My eyes tell me Mike is the bar none Goat but now IDK i'm kinda conflicted i'm realizing with all this Jordan LeBron goat talk Larry is being swept under the table! LeBron is not and will never be a better player than Larry Bird sorry!!!!! hate to be the bearer of bad news! Mike is another story he's just Mike so that can never offend me but IDK who you are a regular Joe Smo, a TV personality and ex player whoever I've seen both Bird and LeBron play and it's not even FN close!!!!!!!!!!! I PROMISE YOU!!!!!!!!!! Bird is incredibly underrated he should be top 3 on any Goat list or conversation bottom line so I have to show these young dudes and LeBron lollipopers that Bird is A+ right there with Jordan if not a hair better...Class in now in session

@@superdopehiphop Everyone gets to have their opinion of course but LeBron doesn't beat Bird for me. Reason is his lack of impact in getting his team to the finals mostly. He didn't know how to elevate his teammates. Larry made his team better immediately by thirty two wins with the same team over the previous season. Basketball is a team sport and you get paid to win games, not get great stats. The other side of that though is LeBron being drafted without college experience was a handicap to him as far as team ball goes I feel.

@@marykuettner752 LeBron doesn’t have impact getting teams to the Finals? Are you out of your mind? Larry played with 2-4 other HOF on his teams the first 7 years he was there. LeBron dragged a horrid Cleveland team to finals at 22 that was 4th best odds in Vegas to make Finals. LeBron took horrid 2018 roster to Finals. LeBron 2015 finals vs 67-15 Warriors LeBron took them 6 with no Love or Kyrie. LeBron objectively looking at pieces around him, + eye test, plus truly objective analytics showing value like VORP & BMP clearly brought as much value on both sides of ball to teams his whole career as anyone ever. Larry prime though is a great as anyone ever (83-84 to 87-88 he was a God during that 5 year run).

Bird was the GOAT. Why? Because he took a little of something and made it look easy and great! He maximized his abilities and outplayed and out thought all of them, including Jordan. When I watched Bird in his first year, I said - this is something and someone special. He did it all and made it look so easy. When I watched Bird, I also watched the other high level pros who played with and against them and even they sounded and acted like high school boys watching someone with greatness and were at awe!! We're talking the greatest players in the world starry eyed watching and playing this legend. I am so thankful to live in a time to watch this guy play, he made it real, fun, fair and extraordinaryly entertaining. Bird and Magic actually saved the league from bankruptcy. Bird turned his losing franchise 180 degrees in his rookie year - yes ROOKIE year, from 29 to 62 winning games! Bird was the FOUNDER of the 50/40/90 club which until recently only had 3 players. Bird was MVP 3 consecutive years and rookie of the year. Bird won thee point contest three years in a row, what? Look up the Bird Rule. Bird was the first bigger man to use the 3 point shot like a layup. Bird in college took his team to a 33-0 winning year. What more can one say? Bird.

I don't know how many people know Larry growing up in Indiana played everyday with older Black boys who played at a park by Larry's home. He used to watch them play and one day asked if he could play with them and they said yes..Larry played with them for years so being taught by these Black guys you could say Larry is the only White guy who is a black basketball ball player..And those black guys are probably his biggest fans I hope they stayed in touch..

Larry Bird is the all-time greatest basketball player in the history of the game. He has always been my ultimate model for basketball since childhood in the 70s and 80s. If you could place Larry in the 21st century, he would adapt, then destroy every player including Lebron, and the rest of 3 point shooters, and still have time to mow his lawn.

I think Bird is the GOAT and here is why. I've never seen a more polished player in every facet of the game. He could do it all. deep shooting, driving, fadeaway, off the dribble, moving without the ball, left hand, right hand, hook shots, runners, floaters, head fakes, he could dime like a point guard and rebound like a center, clutch, he destroyed double teams, and all around leadership and will to win. Intangibles off the charts. He was so far ahead of his opponents its not funny. His only real weakness might of been on ball defense but as far as team defense goes he was elite level there too. Amazing player. Hard pressed to find anyone with elite level skill in so many facets of the game. IMO it's between Larry or Jordan for GOAT.

By the way, the 80's was the BEST era in NBA basketball EVER!!! Larry Bird would easily average 35 points per game in today's NBA with no defense, you touch a guy it's a foul, and all the three's.

I never get tired of watching these. I love hearing the stories by former opponents the best. To me, that’s a true litmus test of ability when the ppl Larry played against say “he’s an assassin” or “stone killer” or “I feared him the most” or “he had the heart of a lion”...All I know is, almost to a man, every great player of his era had nothing but praise for Larry’s ability, his b-ball IQ, his clutch ability, and his trash talk (and ability to back it up). In MY mind, the TRUE GOAT.

Bird always had mad respect for Domnick because he gave him his very best trash talk and his A+ game every time he stole a game from us in Atlanta heartbreaker. To be so slow he sure created enough space. Pat Riley said if the game was on the line he would give MJ the ball but if his life was on the line he would pick Larry Bird. Same here. If you wanna know how great Bird was, just ask any 80s NBA fan that didn’t pull for Boston. The man was Michael Myers in a green jersey. As long as the game went on, he wouldn’t die. You weren’t safe from Larry Bird until the clock hit 0:00, the credits had rolled and you were halfway home in your car. When you got home, you still checked the closet and under your bed for Larry before you went to sleep. Because he might jump out and hit a 3 to win the game.

I come from a 'Celtic family'. Bill Russell was the man during my fathers era, and Bird was during my era. Interesting that both had the same attitude. Winning was the primary goal. Both constantly looked at ways to make every member of their team better. Both worked hard at intimidating the other team. Russell through sheer inside power by blocking shots and getting rebounds, and Bird through demoralizing trash talking and making the impossible pass or shot. Russell was the consummate defensive player of his time and Bird the offensive player. Jordan came along at the time Bird was at the end of his career and took the offensive game to a different level. Wilt Chamberlain was a phenomenal player but had the misfortune of having to play against Bill Russell almost his entire career. That made him look diminished with only 2 championships to Russell's 11. But if you watched Wilt play it was almost unreal how awful he made the other players look by his dominance. But Russell simply had better players around him will the time. And his coach was a genius in figuring out how to utilize his team to beat the competition. In Bird's era there was a bunch of hall of fame players on the court each game. You could not relax for a minute. The 80's decade was simply fantastic basketball. Each team had a personality and style all their own. That era exemplified team play better than any other. Golden State today is showing a lot of great passing in order to get the ball to the open man, but so many other teams have 1 or 2 guys who are the primary ones, and the rest seem to be told players. It seems to have become too much of a one on one game. Bird, however, helped his teammates become hall of fame quality. Magic didn't do that, Jordan didn't either. Both were great players, obviously, but did not have the same effect on their teammates as Bird did for his. Who is the greatest? As Russell said, depends on what era you look at. Too many greats over 50 years to only pick one. Thanks for your effort in creating this video.

When I was kid in the 80s, my buddies were Lakers fans. I wasn’t into Basketball and thought Bird received praise because he was White more than anything else. Then I became a high school assistant football coach and had to help out during Basketball seasons so I had to teach myself alot about the game. I soon learned, wow, that Larry Bird was the best overall player in terms of skill and hustle and confidence and knowledge to hold as an example for the 9th graders I was charged to help coach. I had been very naive to think Bird got a free pass and extra hype from the media in the 80s.

I was at Indiana University in Bloomington as a student in 1974 when Larry Bird went home after just a few weeks, after being bullied by Kent Benson for his unfashionable clothing. That is the truth as to why he left IU and went home, later to return to school at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. It doesn't take much digging on the internet to find the true story. The "official" story was that Bloomington was "too big" for Larry and he got "homesick." If you were ever in Bloomington in the 1970's you know that is just a load of B.S. Imagine how good that Indiana team could have been had Bird stayed. As it was, they went undefeated in the 74-75 season, only to get beat in the Regional Final by Kentucky after Scott May, the national player-of-the-year, broke his arm in the final game of the season against Purdue. The next year, in what would have been Bird's sophomore year at Indiana, the Hoosiers became the last team to go through the entire season and the NCAA tourney undefeated and win the national championship. There were still good players at Indiana the year after that, which would have been Bird's junior year. The point is, if not for Kent Benson being a college frat-boy jerk, Bird could have led Indiana to three or four national championships in a row. At least he stayed in state and took Indiana State to the national championship game. The good news is that he became a great pro player and Kent Benson became an average pro player, whom Bird embarrassed on the court every time they played each other. I think Bird was the best "team" basketball player I ever saw. And talk about a killer instinct. Wow.

Not a smarter player than Magic. And Lebron is a basketball savant. Listen to his interviews when someone asks him about a specific decision in a game, and he lays out a second by second account of the scenario. Larry Bird was feared for good reason. He was a killer like Kobe and MJ. He had vision like Magic. A Jumper like West. But as long as there was ever a Kareem, Wilt, MJ, or even Magic, he won't be the GOAT.

@@motoman32 Given that GOAT is subjective he can be the GOAT in people's eyes. He has a case, given his all around skills, smarts, accomplishments at 3 levels (player, coach, exec), and degree of difficulty in competition. Magic cake walked to the finals each year, Bird fought hard battles against a loaded East playoff crop and then had to go up against one of the greatest of all time in Magic, while magic also had another GOAT on his team. Mike never went through a team like the showtime Lakers with 2 top 10 all time greats on it. If you just count chips then sure he's not the greatest, but if you take everything he accomplished in the proper context and just watch with your eyes, you can make the case that he's the greatest all around player ever.
