that dr. j story goes like this. through the whole game, every time larry hit a basket, he kept the score between himself and dr. j. he was saying it like "20-6, 23-6, etc". J got so mad at this, they actually started fighting on the court.

the back story of Larry's left handed game was basically one whole game of his trash talking mentality, the blazers had beaten them in their last matchup that season which was the ONLY loss the Celtics had at home that entire season which is still an all-time NBA home record of 40-1, bird was out for vengeance so he played them left handed just to prove his dominance. When the reporters asked Bird after the game why he played left handed Bird quipped: "I'm saving my right hand for the Lakers tomorrow".😄 Classic Bird wit.

I was not a Bird Fan back them because I was a 76's fan. But now, looking back he was the best player of his time and taking in every factor likely the best ever. In a shortened career he accomplished so much. I have total respect for his determination. His tenacity. His BB IQ. And, he was MVP, Exec of the Year and Coach of the year. He's the only one to do that. Great reaction. Thanks to you both!

I was a huge Celtics fan and watched Bird his entire career. It makes me so happy to see all these tribute videos; he really was that great. The game where the Atlanta players were falling all over was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. I have to day, the two guys I had the two opponents I had the most respect for were Barkley and Dominique. Especially Dominque, he always brought it against the Celtics.

Have you guys done a Julius Erving (Dr. J) highlight reel? Back in the 70s and 80s, he was a constant, highlight reel. He started in the old ABA with the New Jersey Nets. When the two leagues merged, he had the opportunity to go to the Philadelphia 76ers, because they had drafted him in the NBA, when he chose to play for the team that drafted him in the ABA. The 76ers were already a good team. He made them great. They were in 4 finals between '77-'83, finally winning in '83. When he was still with the Nets, he made a move one night, that the world had never seen before. As my memory sees it right now, Dr. J was going in for a right-handed lay up, with defenders in the way. The Doc was known for holding the ball in one hand (I think he created the Whirlie-Bird Dunk). That's how he was going through the air. He was holding the ball high, in his right hand. Suddenly he pulled the ball down, seemingly changing direction while in the air. He got behind the backboard, and put the ball in, while reaching out and laying the ball in, on the opposite side of the rim. The move was talked about for days, long before the internet days.

A bit surprised to see you back (so soon) with Larry Bird, but by no means complaining. Without a doubt, he’s my favorite NBA star to watch, largely because of the breadth of his skills, the level of team play, and the confidence he exudes. For someone with such a killer instinct, Bird nevertheless seems largely grounded. I’d be hard-pressed to come up with a former coach, player (whom he coached) or teammate who has a beef (complaint) with him. A story Bird tells that comes to mind had Red Auerbach talking personnel and possible trades with Bird, Kevin McHale and Celtic guard Danny Ainge. Ainge (who during his years in team management has had a reputation for wheeling and dealing) shared with Auerbach how the Celtics might benefit from trading Bird or McHale (who by that time we’re dealing with chronic injuries from their style of plays including playing hurt). I’ve seen many fans lay in on Ainge in comments, but notably Bird is matter of fact when he discusses this incident, noting the mutual loyalty of Auerbach, Bird and McHale, and seemingly comfortable with Ainge speaking up in the context with Auerbach. Bird is easy to respect. Thanks again for posting your reaction to Bird.

For those that think Larry Bird was not as good as he really was and never had the chance to see him play this comment is for you. Remember in this comment I am just highlighting Larry's NBA accomplishments. Little know thing about Larry to those that never saw him play , he could effect the outcome of a game and never take a shot thats how devastating his passing skills were. Here is one thing that most fans (people) either don't know or try to ignore, prior to Larry joining the NBA there was no such thing as a three point line, that came in when Bird was starting his first year of his NBA career. Just think about it, what would todays game be without the three point line or if the line was one foot farther out like it was when it was first introduced. Food for thought. At that time it was not about the individuals stats it was about the win. But if you need some stats here you go: Here are some of Larry Bird's notable career achievements and statistics: Three-time NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986); Two-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986); Three-time NBA MVP (1984-86); 12-time NBA All-Star (1980-88, 1990-92); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88); All-NBA Second Team (1990); Three-time All-NBA Defensive Second Team (1982-84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); NBA All-Rookie Team (1980); Three-time NBA Three-Point Contest champion (1986-88); Career-high in points: 60 (March 12, 1985) -- tied for franchise record with Jayson Tatum; Named NBA Coach of the Year (1998); and Named NBA Executive of the Year (2012). Larry Bird, was the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 achievement, and one of two players to achieve the feat in multiple seasons. Career averages: 24.3 points per game 10.0 rebounds per game 6.3 assists per game 88.6% free throw percentage 49.6% field goal percentage 37.6% 3-point percentage Now we can't forget that Bird famously played with two injured ankles and a notoriously cranky back that forced him to lay down on the floor during practice breaks. After season-ending foot surgery just six games into the 1988-89 season James Worthy, who played against both Michael Jordan and Larry Bird, said, I'd much rather play. against Michael Jordan than Larry Bird. Jordan made you look slow, but Bird made you look stupid.

Bird is one of the only guys Jordan never got the better of. In their 2 playoff series vs each other, Bird swept him 3-0 twice despite Jordan setting the playoff scoring record with 63 points in one of those games only watch Bird pot the game winner in overtime lol Even late in Bird's career when MJs Bulls were starting to win championships and Bird's Celtics were a shadow of their former selves, Bird was still beating MJ. There's a famous picture of a 34 year old Bird hitting the game winning shot through a Jordan/Pippin doubleteam. Jordan had a rule for his Bull's that no one was allowed to talk to Bird when they played because MJ said it's hard enough to beat Bird as it is, getting him fired up even more won't help lol At Bird's retirement MJ said you're retiring after a great career...good, I'm glad i no longer have to see your face. You ruined a lot of my great games vs the Celtics over the years lol

There was a huge fight, you can see the photo of J with his hand squeezing Bird's throat, Bird reaching at him, half the damn 6ers team is grabbing Bird. It started because as Bird was torching J he was counting their scoring totals. That's why he says he was up whatever to whatever. He was telling Dr. J the whole game. Dude was absolutely amazing. @DNReacts You're welcome * crisp high five * from across the pond in Boston guys . If you want something that will get a great reaction (if you have time) . Check out Ron Hextal , a goalie from the Philadelphia Flyers 😆 All time , biggest mental case of a man but great , great goalie . God Bless guys

One of the greatest bird stories is him showing up to a indiana state practice and hooping and busting ass in jeans

I love your reactions! This may be a random request but I am a die hard Boston Red Sox fan & we just lost one of the greats way too young. I would love to see you react to Tim Wakefield and/or knuckleballers. That pitch & pitcher has sadly died out. There may be a couple today but if there are, I haven't heard of them. He was not only one of the best knuckleball pitchers but a truly amazing human.

It’s insane that we haven’t had another American white player even in the same realm as Larry Bird.

Mike truly respects Larry Legend. Thats where he learned how to talk trash, get on the opponents head and beat them mentally. Mj got a 6-0 record in the finals but his 0-6 in the playoffs against Larry. Even James Worthy, one of the Lakers big 3 said i would rather guard Mj than Larry
