Larry Bird would dominate in today's "you can't touch them" league. He grew up playing the black cooks and hotel workers in his town after school and he never saw color, unless you put a white guy on him. Good reaction. Thanks for sharing.
@CoachWizReacts2 ай бұрын
Thank you for tuning in. It’s crazy how the league is now. You literally can’t touch the offensive players. These legends would have a field day lol

If Larry played in today's pick and pop, no defense, league? He would average 50.
@msbolan2 ай бұрын
Larry is the GOAT for me. There is no other player who was so effective at both ends of the court and who would absolutely baffle the opposing team like Bird could. He was hard to defend because he could literally do anything he wanted to at any given time, and his court I.Q. and awareness were simply second-to-none. If an opponent thought they knew what Bird was going to do, he would make them look absolutely stupid. No other player, man. No other player. There have been more prolific scorers, but Bird didn't need to score to help his team win. He was selfless and would get his teammates open. He would dish off when he was double- and triple-teamed, which happened a lot because he WAS such a threat. There have been far more physically imposing players, but Bird had just enough height that he could shake off defenders, and his shooting release was behind his head so he could shoot over the best defenders. There is so much about Bird that makes him my GOAT; all you have to do is watch the videos. They speak for themselves, and the Legend.
@CoachWizReacts2 ай бұрын
Love the assessment! Very well said
@jrr3787Ай бұрын
Wilt is the Goat, but Bird id up there. If you compare his overall stats to Jordan, Bird comes out ahead. With assists, and boards, an edge on blocks to Bird and a small edge on steals to Jordan, Bird actually accounts for more points than Jordan.
@PixelPro-40002 ай бұрын
You’re not ready to move onto someone else. Bird is so substantial, you have only scratched the surface of his greatness and his legacy. He stands apart. Bird/Jordan 1a/1b best player of all time.

@PixelPro-40002 ай бұрын
@@CoachWizReacts It's all good. I'm just saying one or two more videos of Bird is not enough to really appreciate the depth of his legend. He and Jordan are very much alone in this unique category, where 3 or 4 videos just don't do the player justice. Their stories are profound, and super impactful compared to every other NBA player.

@@CoachWizReacts Here is the problem with Bird. He was some damned good and such a great character that he has a really loyal following. And it doesn't matter if we saw him play live, or if we've seen these clips, or seen 1000 reactors watch these clips. We just keep on coming back for more. You should feel free to react to other players because over time your channel needs to become more about you than about who you're reacting to, but there is so much more great Bird stuff that you'd be crazy to stop at just one more video.

2:23 here’s what I think about that. Bird was a team player first and foremost. There were only two conditions under which he insisted on the ball. One was game winning shots and the other was when he wanted to make a point. Any other time, he’d pass it to whoever had the better shot. He averaged 4.6 assists per game as a forward. He wasn’t a selfish player generally.

I have him top three. I don't like ranking GOATs 1, 2, 3, etc., because of playing in different eras with different rules. He is top three to me with Wilt and Jordan. As a long time Knicks fan (I'm 68) it pains me to say so - but he was just unbelievable, like the other two. And I would recommend doing a Wilt review - there are a couple of videos that cover what an incredible athlete he was - AAU track champion among other things - and how he used to lift weights with Arnold Schwarzenegger. And he still holds more NBA records than anyone else.

I think for those of us who lived through his prime era players like him and magic were not simply that they were great basketball players but it was the mental approach...there was one goal, to win and thats all that mattered. Means you play every game with the same mentality no matter if it was preseason, regular season or playoffs, they were out there to beat you and were not your friend during the season. That made for truly competitive games from start of season to finish.

Bird, Russell, Wilt, MJ, Magic. With Hakeem and LeBron honorable mention. TBH, I think every person on that list would pick Larry 1st too. Remember this: MJ was a rookie in 84. Bird won his 1st of 3 straight MVPs in 84(84, 85 86), and his 2nd and 3rd titles in 84 and 86. Jordan never won a single playoff game against Larry. Swept twice and never won a title in the 80s, it took him 7 years, and did it in Larry's last year. Larry missed the entire previous season for double ankle surgery. And remember, he DESTROYED his back paving his Mom's driveway in the summer before his 86 season and was never really the same. He also broke his 1st and 2nd fingers on his shooting hang the summer before his rookie season, so bad, his fingers are still not straight. Still won Rook of the year like 62-2. Dude was a feared assassin.

Over MJ Kareem Kobe?
@Freedom_Half_Off2 ай бұрын
It is simple enough ... but not for the reason, a stat nerd, might think . Pat Riley tht watched all this stuff from the court side had his famous quote ... for the game Michael Jordan ... for my life Larry Bird .

That’s dope he said that

I have Bird as the #1 all around player (pts/reb/asst), but I do have him #2 behind Kobe. Great reaction. 🙌 🏀💪

You've probably heard this, but Coach Pat Riley said, "If I'm picking someone to take the last shot to win the game, I take MJ. If I want someone taking a shot to save my life, I pick Bird," or words to that effect.

Larry is way better than LeBron. LeBron doesn't have that killer in him like Bird.

That beginning question is not valid. The video is stitched together to make it look like Bird was a more selfish player than he was. That wasn't the case in reality. The story that K.C. was telling was a joke. Some of the 'supporting' stories were all talking about the same instance. In reality Bird was known at the time for getting the players to play like a team, and to go out of his way to make sure everyone got the ball. To twist things to make it sound like he was some sort of prima donna misses what made Bird great in the first place...inspiring his team. Also, Bird's stats on passing and assists don't tally with a selfish player. It's just wrong. Even his trashtalking is blown out of proportion. What's described as trashtalking is mostly him telling a defender what his play was going to be. They say that his trashtalking was mostly funny, and not vile. He also could back it up. That's why the greats love him so much. They are in awe at how good he was, and brag to each other the times Bird demonstrated that. I'm not sure why people today have this bizarre need to slander Larry Bird. The lie that he was overrated didn't work. Now it's that he was selfish. Why?

Very valid points. In my opinion, his talk was part of the fun. Challenge his opponent to bring it. Or up the challenge for himself by telling them what he was going to do. Dan Shaughnessy states in his book, _Wish It Never Ended_ that Bird ALWAYS referred to the venues as "gyms" "gymnasiums." I personally surmise that it was to always keep it a game. The court was always the same size. I think Bird got joy from playing a great game. Satisfaction. Each game was an opportunity to Win and be his best in pursuit of that.

We all know bird isn’t selfish. One of the best teammates ever and passers of all time. Always made his teammates better and was the most clutch player ever probably. I was just playing relax lol. Real ones know how good Larry Legend was.
