Bird also broke his hand on a guy's face at a bar during the finals against the Lakers. He kept it quiet but people noticed the swelling and his shooting did suffer so he might have cost his team a championship.

Bird got his third straight MVP during the 1985-86 season while playing with an injured back. His pain tolerance was very unusual.

Surprised he didn't mention the bar fights. Legend tells that there were a few occasions where Larry got into brawls at (or outside of) bars, won the fight, then went and played professional basketball and won the game as well haha

The narrator didn't mention that he also broke his cheek in that head bounce on the floor against the Pacers.

That game he hit the floor with his face he actually broke his cheek bone and missed 6 games after. He also had spent the night be that game in the hospital in traction. He was something else. If Bird was on the floor we knew the Celtics had a chance to win. He stayed playing because their pick Linn Bias had died the night of the draft. The Celtics were in a rebuild as the big three were all aging and Larry had major back problems by then. He had a piece of disc removed and came back and beat Mj and Pipin in a great game. That was in 1991 . He was amazing. After bird left Reggie Lewis a great player for the Celtics died of a congenital heart condition. There is a great video on his life. I remember that day it was a sad time. Great reaction. Keep watching Bird you will never be disappointed ❤

Yea, But I Don't Think The Cheek Bone Fracture Is What Kept Him Out The Next 6-Games. I Think It Was His Back. Infact He Wasn't Even Suppose To Be On This Night To Play. But I Guess He Felt He Could & They Put His Name Back On.

I think it was in 1987 or early '88 that Dominique Wilkins said the following: "When you play against Bird you're looking into the eyes of an assassin."

The hand/knuckle shatter required several surgeries, but the finger was never straight after that and he could never fully straighten or bend it. It was also tilted at about a 45 degree angle. And in Nov. of 88. They cut the Achilles tendons and removed bone spurs from both of his feet. But the next season he came back and averaged 24.3Pts, 9.5TRb, 7.5Ast and 1.4 Stl.

The back and double achilles surgeries are enough. Toughest of all time. No Debate.

Did you come upon the stories about his "bone spurs"..... He had bone spurs in both feet but on the back of the foot . He had issues the Achilles tendon or heel cord, also known as the calcaneal tendon, is a tendon at the back of the lower leg, and is the thickest in the human body. This tendon connects you heel bone to your calf muscles & other important sH!Te but I digress ; Bird suffered a few spurs in each foot meaning every step hurt beyond some of his other injuries AND he lived w/ these spurs during other injuries making him one Bad Arse'd Mother F#@Ck'er ! I jammed my heal once which is a bruised injury kinda like trying to run barefooted across big rocks w/o shes on except bone spurs are worse, much worse /7 he had them on both heals & multiple spurs on each heal / Achilles tendon or heel cord. I'm not asking you to another video as you've done a lot but you ought to at least check it out to understand just how that injury on both feet at the same time as a back or other..... I hurt just thinking of it !! peace

Pain is like a, "monster" that you do not think about all that much until you;re older & have your 1st injury that decides it's gonna stay with you..... lol, I've got a couple of thinks I deal with but I'm a pussy, nothing like these pro-athletes & I didn't know about all of his injuries until this week. I only knew he played harder than whoever was on scedule against Boston. I remember seeing Larry laying down on the sideline but I didn't really know & no one else did this so I thought it was part of his benefits package... lol, I didn't know but after what I have seen, I believe he was up there in the top 5% of TOUGH, leaning upwards to Top 1% but you can't measure any of these things. Take a look at those bone spurs; They form on the bony part of your heel where the Achilles tendon moves up/down allowing you to jump or run. You Achilles Tendon connects everything & a "Spur" forms along the bone but in the path of the tendon & you got it = each time the tendon goes up/down, that spur catches the tendon - excruciating pain & I've never felt that pain. And to play basketball -- No way he could do that ?? I bet he did - tough bastard
