Not bad having Joe Maphis playing bass for you. Joe Maphis was Larry's guitar teacher and mentor. You can really tell they are having fun with this. Big Ron

Joe Maphis was a master musician and wanted to teach Larry to be the best, too. Sometimes his hard-driving perfectionism ended up with Larry sobbing when he didn't quite "make the mark". Some thought that Maphis was a bit harsh, but you can tell the kid thought the world of him.

Yes- Lorrie made it clear that it was "The Larry Collins guitar walk" that Chuck Berry "borrowed". She also said she had to constantly avoid getting tied up by Larry's guitar cord as he bopped around her.

This is bone crushing, especially for the 50's. Too bad they did not let them turn their amps up more, Lorrie on rhythm guitar, and her voice should have all been louder and up in the mix better, it is always better when they play live, but still just think if they really cranked it up the way they wanted too. They are still playing concerts all around, and they are real legends, I can not understand why they did not sell tons of records like some of the other more famous ones did.
@pouglwaw5932 Жыл бұрын
The record company the Collins Kids signed with was "old school" and didn't really know how to promote them. When Lorrie turned 17 and eloped with Johnny Cash's much, much older agent, that was the end of the Collins Kids, her close relationship with Ricky Nelson, and it nearly destroyed connections with her own family [they didn't speak to her for years]. Larry cried till he just couldn't cry anymore. Much later they patched it all up and performed together again.
@coinneachmaclellan3121 Жыл бұрын
@pouglwaw5932 From what I've read, the reason that Lorrie Collins married Johnny Cash's much older agent was to keep Johnny Cash at arm's length because he was obsessed with her and was stalking her...

I agree, "American Idol" is an amateurish, protracted waste of time! Real talent isn't decided by toll-free call-in's and a panel of egotists, but by years of playing gigs at live venues and then being signed by a professional to a record label.
