It's so fascinating that SO MANY of the "FAILURES" of the 80s have came out ON TOP in the elite circle today through sheer persistence and the refusal to say NO to what other people's expectations of them were at the time... look at the "failures" of today and imagine who will be on top 2040-2060

Are they long on $GME and $AMC only to make the tiny gains from lending to short hedge funds or do they know a short squeeze is on the horizon?
@sts3884
@sts3884 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikehawk7822 I worked in fixed income derivs. But to in my opinion they are too clever to get caught up in short squeeze. I think a lot of people think this is a normal occurrence, this was a once in generation trading opportunity caused by seriously bad risk management and once this happened every bank & hedge fund would have stress tested every risk model analysis to make sure this would not happen to them. It is unlikely (tho not impossible) we will ever see that type of trade again in my opinion. Blackrock have top quality risk management and it’s prob their main ethos but that doesn’t stop them from over trading on client’s accounts.
@mikehawk7822

@@sts3884 I don't think Blackrock was short on the meme stocks. Melvin Capital was and I don't think they closed their position. I'm sure there are many short hedge funds who haven't closed their short positions. Seems like big institutional investors are lending out shares and the market makers are creating synthetic shares by way of naked shorting. Then to off set buying pressure, they sell in blocks into the dark pools. PFOF allows this dark pool abuse. What happened in the meme stock run up was a mixture of fomo buying and a gamma ramp. Then when Robinhood took away the buy button it stopped the gamma squeeze. I don't think the algorithms accounted for this so they illegally stopped the buy side pressure. If they closed their positions the gamma squeeze should have been much harder. Blackrock and Vanguard are not as greedy as the short hedge funds. What happens when margin calls come in and the shorts long positions have to be liquidated to close their position? Also the hundreds of millions of FTD's keep piling up. That's why the SEC and DOJ are investigating the short hedge funds. Someone is going to prison. I doubt it's Blackrock or Vanguard.
@sts3884
@sts3884 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikehawk7822 interesting read and something I not aware of as I moved out the industry and really wasn’t involved or cared about the whole meme trading but from your analysis something has went awry. I am familiar with the block buying and selling tho and the infamous use of dark pool trading. Gives such an advantage to many trading strats and is essential for another probably less known business called TRIM management Blackrock make a killing on this also with managing changing funds strategy change or fund manager change. Often they don’t even hold the assets for more than a few hours before transitioning to the another fund manager. Again name of the game is hiding enormous trades and strategically offloading or buying in the dark pool space. Again the fees are staggeringly high.

Typical big money when they're buying or selling... they front run their sells or purchases of the underlying by purchasing options to the direction they think their selling or buying will cause the market price of the underlying. 1) If about to sell a position out or get rid of large amount, they first buy up a bunch of puts... this helps take advantage of the cratering prices they will cause in the underlying making money on the premium of the puts and selling those. 2) If about to buy a position up or increase it, they first buy lots of call contracts... again to take advantage of the pump. A phenomena that often happens when huge volume of puts or calls happen are the market makers who sell these contracts naked, have to hedge. Back to the 2020 and 2021 pump and dumps. So what was happening to small caps, to meme stocks, to latter portion of 2021 the big cap stocks, was buying same week expiration call contracts to pump the price of the stock. What they would do buy millions of dollars of call contracts slightly out of the money, retail already playing along as they have been yolloing calls on AAPL, and other stocks. This sudden increase in call contracts bought causes market makers to have short term open interest that has a gamma influx, market makers have to buy underlying to cover some of their new purchases that are about to expire that Friday for potential delivery aka gamma squeeze... to ensure price doesn't retrace, often the big money would buy the underlying shortly after placing all the same week call options. Market makers forced to cover, cause a gamma squeeze... and the big money is looking to only have these options open for the day or two... once in the money or close to the money at least the premium has pumped, the big money dumps their call options they bought for huge profits 100% to 400% with no interest in keeping them open to exercise the options for ownership. In fact, when they're done pumping using this method, they'll often swap in to buying puts... often that Thursday, especially if they had to buy large shares to help support and even pump the price to trigger the gamma squeeze (market maker of options forced to buy to cover their naked call options). So now, the big money is holding the bag, they want to sell it all... they buy puts usually the day before. Next day, they start to trickle in selling, then about an hour or so in, they dump the shares on ask... making probably a loss... but their puts will more than provide the profit margins to make out like bandits. OPAD meme stock watched that one, they pumped and dumped exactly in this manner. TSLA was an interesting one... they actually spent $1 to $4 million every week to place a put wall in place. Nobody in their right mind would short like this. Particularly not same week expiration contracts... not enough time to get in the money... too obvious for others to take the opposite trade... and this also causes a put wall... where market makers will actively buy the stock not just to cover, but to reduce the chance of the puts being in the money and having to buy the shares of all those put contracts. Particularly as also lots of same week call contracts were being bought and market makers were needing to cover for those anyway. Just shy of $1,100 price TSLA first achieved, the put wall buyer stopped buying these puts. It ended. Gamma squeezed to $1,200 then dumped fairly hard. Up and down. Big money for holiday season that was doing all this chicanery seemed to have gone on vacation in to January. Retail traders have also stopped buying that many options... probably current pullback rekt too many and their bust now. Lots holding stock are upside down significantly on their 2020 hype stocks and now meme stocks. So yeah, these super big money like Black Rock... their games are probably more insane. Almost guarantees winning positions.... almost. And most of the time. They have the ability to hedge and move markets one way or the other. With that options manipulation there is one key problem that makes it not always work. 1) You need constant fomo into buying the underlying (by retail or other traders) to support the price at least keep it form dipping. 2) You can only pump the chicken a few times over a course of a month as you increase implied volatility of the call options ( or puts of you're looking to do the opposite reveres gamma squeeze) the premium is so expensive that change in price won't give you much profits or any. So you can only do it once or twice or at most 5 times. More frequently that you do it, and the higher you pump it the less you can make from doing it and riskier another big player or set of big players counter what you're doing rather than helping. So there are limitations to these manipulative events.

They do in fact not own everything. They have funds under management, which is not theirs but their customers money. Furthermore, there are the largest institutional shareholders in a lot of companies, but they still only hold a couple of percentages, and thus they do not at all own these companies. A lot of the funds managed by them is pledged to be in the form of mutual funds e.g. S&P500 and such, so they cannot move it freely. In summation, they are not at all monopolies.
@troydanielson4766

@@nicholasschneidermadsen370 Black rock and Vanguard are the majority share holders of over 80% of major cooperations. If you're a majority share holder, you definitely have the power to determine how the company will operate. They also have a vested interest in each other. They also have a vested interest in smaller companies that are majority share holders. Just because they're a holding company and use other peoples money, doesn't mean they have no power to determine how everything is ran. This is why almost all companies when woke at the same time, they're all controlled by the same people.

@@troydanielson4766 But that is simply not what we were discussing. You claimed they were a monopoly, and they are not at all. Yes, they have a say in board meetings. If Apple decide to invest billions into something that Blackrock and Vanguard might oppose, then of course they may use their influence to sway Apple from doing so, like any other shareholder. However, a big distinction is the fact that they have a lot of index funds. Here, the money is more or less bound. If they disagree with a decision made by the Apple board, then they will still keep their shares in Apple, because they are obliged to do so, since they own so many index funds. So there is a clear distinction between having some influence, but not being a monopoly. And again, you misuse majority shareholder, as if that gives them direct control. Apple is the largest company, so let's take that as an example. Here, Vanguard owns 8%, and blackrock 4%. However, there are 60% total of insitutional ownership, so they own a lot compared to other institutions, but they don't own controlling shares. However, Berkshire owns about 5% of apple, and those 5% are worth so much more when it comes to control. Berkshire are not obliged to hold Apple due to index funds, and thus they are free to sell at any moment. So if Warren Buffett or others at Berkshire disagrees with the direction of the company, then they can treaten to leave. Vanguard and Blackrock cannot do the same with all their shares. So yes, they are influential, but people tend to misunderstand in what way, they are influential. They represent their customers interest, which is me and others who have money in their funds.
