The 1999 Eastern Conference Finals between the Knicks and the Pacers was a constant battle. The Knicks ultimately won in 6 games, but the iconic moment of that series or even the entire season may have been Larry Johnson's 4-point play in Game 3 at The Garden.

Davis knew Larry blew by him he was pushing on him, the foul was called. Was it in the act of shooting? Debatable. But the foul is as clear as day. Reggie Miller had the perfect chance to win the game. Had he made his shot this 4 point play would have been forgotten. Indiana had their chance

A Knicks fan since 1981, this is the one game turned off 7 minutes in the 4th quarter and to be suprised at the result at the end. I was disgusted by the team's performance all night in Game 3 of the 1999 ECF. I still remember my friends calling me asking me if I saw the game, and I responded: "Nah, but I know we lost." They were like: "Lost?? Man, the Knicks won!! LJ did a 4-point play!!" I was happy and dejected at the same time, lol. It's never over til its over.

To be sure, LJ was more explosive on the Hornets but was an all-around better player on the Knicks. When we picked him up in free agency in the summer of 96’, I was sooooo excited because I thought we are getting Grandma-ma! But, a different LJ arrived to the Big Apple (mainly due to back injuries), and I was not expecting it. Needless to say, I was disappointed for a long time to have missed out on that version of Larry. I came to see his value and diversity as a player in that 99’ run to the Finals, especially In Ewing’s absence. No way the LJ of Charlotte could have carried the Knicks through that enchanted post season. At best, he would have had great explosive highlights slashing, dashing, and dunking - but from the first round alone. No way a Knicks team with an athletic Larry Johnson would have taken down a deep, seasoned Miami Hear team in the first round.

I don't think that's different from today. Down 3 with 11 seconds, the defense usually is a little softer because they are actively avoiding fouling so you can get an easy two, foul, and force the other team to make two clutch free throws. The defense is guarding against three-pointers, sort of like the NBA's version of the prevent defense in the NFL, so getting points at the basket is easier than normal. Threes aren't considered a must until you're around the 5 second mark.
@kingdave31
@kingdave31 2 жыл бұрын
That 99 playoff run was magical, but it’s tempered by the fact that they never had a chance to win the Finals no matter who came out of the West. Also while we’re at it let’s forget that stupid conspiracy theory that the NBA rigged this series for the Knicks. Indiana had plenty of chances to win, they just didn’t.

Here’s how it feels, it’s frustrating it’s upsetting and yet we true Knick fans keep rooting! That’s what makes us the greatest fans of any NBA franchise! I know Laker fans from here in CT where I’ve been born and raised and still live here. Those same laker fans use to be bulls fans which have also rooted for the heat, GS. That team you root for has several front runner fans that will one day root for the Knicks when and I mean when we win our next championship. Hope it’s in my lifetime but the Knicks are due for some real success. That’s what it’s like for a Knicks fan born in 85 and saw the team be very good in the 90s just not excellent.

@@saidullah146 lol struggle. Some ppl aren't jaded and dont feel the need to be so thirsty that they gots to root for a winning team by any means necessary. Some ppl went from the pistons to bulls to spurs to lakers to heat to cavs. Some of those very same travelling fans mask it as calling themselves lebron fans. The last 10yrs, flaker fans either a) were gs warriors fans or b) hid their flaker gear in the closet nd had it collect dust only hoping to take it outta there if the lakers got back decent. Make no mistake about it. Whoever wins this year has an asterisk next to it. Knicks fans are doing what real "fans" do which is support their team which will make it even sweeter when they finally break through. We are no different from lions, clippers, browns, bengals, kings nd wizards/bullets fans
