Few people on the face of the planet ever encounter the type of Fame he did. I don't think it's fair of any of us to judge or say how he should have acted or felt.. the only thing that's undeniable is that his childhood and subsequent Fame at an extremely young age created an unhappiness for him that he struggled with at times in various degrees in his life. The look and smile at the end of the interview is how I will always remember him. He once said he wanted to be remembered for making others happy. I think he can say he accomplished that and he still cracks me up when I watch him on The Partridge Family!

Arnie Wince by his own admission he never wasn’t drinking. If you’ve ever been around someone that drank themselves to death can see it. When it start off you’re a functioning drunk, and it is very subtle. Eventually after time you’re drunk 24-7 as the alcohol his taken over the body. Every time you have a drink you’re just topping off. The alcohol never leaves your body and it has saturated your organs. It’s called alcohol toxicity, and it’s a terrible way to die.

@@classicsurvivor I understand. I have 12 years sobriety after 25 years of drinking progressively worse. I am in the program. I also think I wouldn't be around if I kept it up. He refused to admit he was an alcoholic AND didn't want to be labelled as such. He gave the press some bullshit diagnosis that he had dementia until it was obvious he had wet brain.....a form of dementia brought on by alcohol.

I have watched videos of shows he did and Broadway plays,Las Vegas shows he did during these past decades,I wonder how did people hear about these performances in order to attend? I'm dumbfounded and wish it would have occurred to me to have done some investigating. I also lived in South Florida for most of my life and had no idea he lived there as well, also performed and toured during those years. Incredible identity issues that seem to have overwhelmed him as a young man and remained not too far from the surface even all those years later, by the passion in his voice. Add abandonment issues and that would have been a heavy burden to carry through life, despite all the love and success. People are complex.

You are so right. He was so very young when he was crushed by the overnight "crazy fame" and he never really rebuilt his own identity. On the other hand, Jack Cassidy was an eccentric who when absolutely insane so maybe David really did overcome a great deal to get the amount of stability he achieved! With both he and his father, at least it can be said that they were funny - a deathly powerful trait. :-)

Met David many years ago when he came to see his half-brother, Shawn, at The Paper Playhouse in Millburn, NJ. He still had his long hair then and had lightened it a little. Both men very sweet and caught the hearts of many little girls. ❤

No matter what his identity ...he's adorable! He's always been so concerned , that he's being confused with the character he played on T.V. , but I'm sure his millions of female fans suspected ( or maybe even hoped that he had a darker side...lol) . One can certainly understand the problems facing being typecast , for such a talented actor/singer as David Cassidy ...that he feared it would prevent or limit his opportunity to showcase his multi faceted skill and style ; but his perseverance won out and there was no keeping , such a big talent, down ( as we all found out in his later endeavors)!!

Heartbreaking to hear David Cassidy, who was one of my faves and probably my first crush, talk about how the effects of being one of the biggest teen idols on the planet, turned inward on him, including his feelings of having lost real credibility for other roles from Keith Partridge. His turning to drugs and alcohol, and the alcohol issues obviously coming back to plague him later on, is sad. Nowadays, there are so many good programs out there to help people with addictions. Two very effective ones are; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), which both teach people with these issues, how to choose a different and more positive path. DBT especially, takes people through an in-depth program, which basically starts them practicing making good choices and turning from the old ways of doing things. Another great program is one called 'Telling Yourself The Truth' run by the Seventh Day Adventist Church, which involves the concept of what we tell ourselves. Sounds easy but it isn't. Once again it takes constant practice. An example in this program, is that a person learns that if someone they are close to, whether it be parent, child, sibling, friend, doesn't want them or recognise them, they can still find worth in themselves by realising that they don't need anyone's approval to be a good person, or a loveable person.Sadly, it seems that the rejection David Cassidy suffered from his father, Jack Cassidy who himself was sadly, a victim of his own circumstances, is something David never got over and understandably, would have been very hard to reconcile within his own mind. It appeared that David never was able to get to a point where he could value himself. But he achieved SO MUCH amazing stuff, that he indicated he was proud of.He definitely made an incredible mark on the world stage, not only as a pop star but as a versatile entertainer all round.RIP David. You did so well and I think we WILL always love you! xx :)

It's sad that David's life went into a decline when he had achieved personal happiness for a time with a family who clearly loved him. But he had unresolved emotional pain, perhaps from his childhood or the unreal adulation of his young adult life and this will interfere with personal relationships. It wasn't addressed so in his later adult life he just self medicated the emotional pain away with alcohol or whatever else. Beyond all that he is still a beautiful soul and will always be remembered as such by those of us who didn't even know him and he is most definitely at peace now.☮️

You hit it on the head! He cared too much. And, even with a family in show biz he still managed to get screwed over. Imagine if he’d had a stake in all of the merchandise sold as David Cassidy with Keith Partridge’s image or visa versa. He was paid 4k per episode due to a snafu with his Partridge Family contract which was a lot of money in the 1970’s, the show ran 4 seasons, he sold out Wembley 3 nights in a row, just to name one arena. Sold 15 million records but died with 150k in assets and 1 million dollars in life insurance which he left to his son. He had a big house in Florida, a mini mansion. Probably a couple million in Florida but certainly not So. California cost of living. Where did all his money go?

David Cassidy is a class guy and very likable (I'm a man and yes I can say that lol). I have seen enough interviews and such I just wish he would be more of a sport about his earlier life and quit trying to claim victim status - nobody put a gun to his head and made him do all of that. He seems to not understand that it was those years as Keith Partridge that afforded arguably all of his opportunities then and later in life. All of us could be so damn troubled to be young, very good looking, and have our pick of any woman in the world.

@@nancycallahan2905 I am well aware of his dad... in no way at all does that mean he would be a star. Many children of HUGE movie stars could not make it as well as music stars. It was most definitely the hit sit-com that did that. If you cannot understand that, I cannot help you. He had marginal guitar and vocal skills which were good enough for pop songs... it was his exposure on the TV series and very good looks. That is show business.

@Chewy Ltd Thanks for your reply... anybody who is an adult and have a few years a bit of an education knows that being a celebrity has its pitfalls. We all understand this. I want you to go back an read my original post. I commented that I like Cassidy, and I did when I was a child in the 70's... nice guy. But my criticism stems from his continual whining in interviews about how he did not want all that fame. I call BS he most definitely wanted it and he loved it... until he got tired of it. Nobody made him run around for 4+ years basically working two careers and working 80+ hours a week. He did that because there was a constant flow of huge cash and he was banging every hottie in sight. That is the truth. So then he burns out on that and walks away... no problem there it was bound to happen. But then years later he keeps bitching about how all of that was such a burden... okay you lost me there. Nobody wants a crybaby and nobody put a gun to your head. His co-star Danny totally bottomed out but always handled it with much more class IMO. He dusted himself off and said yea I went through tough years but I love life and those Partridge days were awesome. David simply wants to claim victim status on the talk shows because he knows it would sell his stupid book. I still like the guy but his victim mentality is a bit too much to take seriously.
