good one, yeah it was pre-season and Larry Legend was killin Dr. J like 38 points to 6, and trash talkin him brutal...then he bumped him and they went at it- Charles Barkley, a rookie, and Moses Malone held Bird from behind and Dr. J punched him in the face multiple x, very hardcore...Bird was tough as nails, a junkyard dog..

I'm so old I remember sitting on my bunk bed in 1978 to watch Larry Bird's first NBA game. I made my own game posters by hand and posted them around my room. I also remember the following year in '79 watching the Celtics and hearing the announcers dealing with the new 3-Point rule. Every time any player shot for 3, the announcers would say... "It's Matthews with a 3-point prayer!", or "Jackson tosses it up, praying for a 3-pointer!", etc... but every single time Larry Bird took a shot from behind the line, their voices automatically became animated and they'd say... "It's Bird for 3 Points!!" lol. The next 12 years in the NBA were so fun to watch. It was the golden age, and we all knew it.

It's funny that you should mention him shooting when he's 60. According to a Stephen Jackson podcast, Bird went out to a Pacers practice when the team was stretching, and knocked down around 15 3-pointers in a row, put the ball down and just walked back into his office. And all the Pacers players are like. Did you just effing see that? That happened within the last 5 years. Dude still has the touch.

I don't remember which video it's in, but the most savage Larry Bird trash talk I remember is the guy who tried to talk trash to Larry, and Larry came back and hit like 7 or 8 shots on him in a row, and the last couple shots he made left-handed, and then he turns to the guy and asks him if his mom is watching haha. That's brutal.

Nick Smith put together all the Bird trash talk stories he could find. It is four parts and shows most of the actual footage. John Stockton says Bird walked by the bench when John was a rookie and said "Mmm I feel like 43 tonite." After scoring 43 points he checked himself out of the game in the third quarter.

The Dr. J. Game, Bird kept saying only two words to Dr. J. ….how many points He had and how many points Dr. J. Had. By the third quarter those two numbers were 42 and 6. Ainge said it was at that point Bird told Dr. J. He should retire. Two minutes later the fight broke out. Dr. J. and Bird were choking each other, Barkley and Moses Malone held Bird’s arms while Dr. J. Punched him a few times. They both got ejected, which was one of the last timers the two biggest stars from the teams got booted. There are so many other good bird Trash talking videos out there like “NBA Legends explain how scary Larry Bird was.” John Stockton said his rookie year that when the Celtics came to play Utah, that Bird walked by their bench and said he thought it would be a good night and he felt like 43 points. Stockton said he scored his 43rd point in the third quarter and checked himself out for the rest of the game, just so he ended with 43 points like he said he would. Another time they were playing the Knicks, during pre game warmups Bird was banking 3’s off the glass, a trainer from the Knicks, said he wouldn’t do that during the game. Bird bet him $5 he would. in the third quarter the Celtics were way up and Bird checked himself out, and he forgot about the bet. The trainer told Ainge to tell bird he wanted his $5. When Ainge told Bird that, he checked himself back in for 3 minutes just to bank a 3 in off the glasss to win the bet, and then checked himself out again. He even checked himself out in the third quarter one game, just one steal away from a quadruple double. When the reporters asked him why he didn’t stay in to get it, he simply replied, I can get a quad whenever I want, we were already way ahead, and I’d done enough damage already. The stories go on and on.

While the players were stretching, Larry grab a ball and started pumping away 3 after 3. Then he went and sat down. there was nothing the players could say. They were just in awe.

You should look into the bit about his hand... he broke it just before starting with the Celtics. He had to have surgery but didn't tell them. Of course they found out and called him in to see if he could still play. He had a crooked finger and didn't have full feeling in one and there's always speculation he would've been even better without the injury.

Fyi, he didn't have his "full touch" though. He screwed his finger up right before he was drafted into the NBA, and didn't tell anyone because he wanted to play so bad! Larry said he never had the same feel for the ball because of his finger injury! Can you imagine? He played like THAT, but didn't have "full touch" of the ball! You can find video about his finger getting messed up, and it's still crazy crooked TODAY! Lol. So sad that his career was cut short because of an off court back injury though. Thank you both.

High BB IQ, toughness, trash talker._ PF - Olajuwon - DPOY, MVP, Finals MVP, all in the SAME year. _Athletic big man with handles, defense, rebounding, mid-range jumper, and post dominance._ C - Shaq - Ain't nobody stopping Prime Diesal in the paint. NO ONE. _You got 2 options: get dunked on, or foul him._

Wilt would have stopped Shaq, he was at least as strong, better stamina, and ridiculous amount of NBA records. He is a better candidate for a GOAT than MJ. Bill Russell would have out smarted Shaq (and has 11 rings). Same for the Jocker, Shaq wouldn't be able to stop the Jocker too. A better pure PG than Magic (steals and assists record), would have been Stockton. Dr. J., at his prime, is a great competitor to Larry as SF. For Power Forward you can get Sir Charles or KD. Kobe Bryant as a shooting guard. And they have a very good chance of beating the other team.
@Fermion.
@Fermion. 10 ай бұрын
@@liordagan9342 Wilt's era goes against him being the GOAT. His competition was trash compared to modern athletes. Bill Russell? Please. He played with 4 other HALL OF FAME starters, and only had like 8 teams in the league. His 11 rings are overrated. Magic over Stockton because an athletic 6'9" PG, Magic could play and defend ALL 5 positions, creating matchup nightmares on both ends of the court. He started at C in the Finals when Kareem was hurt, to get 42/15, AS A ROOKIE. What's your team going to do when Magic continuously backs down a small PG like Stockton in the paint for easy layups/foul trouble/dunks? Double team? Then leave Jordan open to slash from the perimeter? Leave Bird open for 3? Leave Olajuwon or Shaq for an easy dunk? Do you now understand why Magic is a better fit for this team? For PF I'm sticking with Olajuwon, for the aforementioned reasons. _Athletic big man with handles, defense, rebounding, mid-range jumper, and post dominance on both sides of the ball._ He freaking won DPOY, MVP, Finals MVP, all in the SAME year. Your team would get destroyed in a best of 7 series. See, that's the problem with people like you. You're just looking at stats, going oooh, assists/steals record, oooohh 11 rings, that means they must be the better choice. But I'm actually thinking about what's going to happen out on the court, not in the stat books. Not only is my team going to have an easy time scoring, they're filled with defense, height, and toughness at every position. The shortest one is Jordan, at 6'6." They have no weaknesses.

@@Fermion. Have you seen Wilt's run stats? Or how Arnold Schwarzenegger talked about his strength, when Wilt was in his forties, threw 230 pounds Arnold like a ragged doll? Wilt was a monster, regardless of era, and great I.Q. too. Wilt could dunk instead of a foul shot, blocked a shot when his hand was higher than the board. How many athletes can do it today? He also lead the league in assists in one year. As for Stockton: Notice that I have written pure PG, not all around. Yes, Magic is much better all around player. But I went for pure PG, and the era is about the same, and his stats as a pure PG are far better. He was an accomplished thief. At least you have shown Dr J. and Kobe respect. Your greatest advantage is having Bird and Magic, so I.Q. wise, your team off the charts. As for Bill: the man's I.Q. doesn't change with the era. Red Aurbach put him and Larry in the same class. And as Luca, Jocker, Larry, proved, the I.Q. can more than compensate for less athletic ability, or strength.
