There is an interesting story of Sakamoto hanging out with Bowie. He was approachable and normal bloke, when shooting their movie together. However he manifets totally different persona, when they met again at Cannes. He was still nice guy but less approachable and slightly intimidating. Bowie looks more laid back and engaging to everyone especially after his marriage with Iman.

I think he would say he was the lucky one that's just the kind of class act he was. It seems to me as I've binge watch many his interviews throughout the years there was always an underlying sort of mild hostility on his behalf, maybe more of an annoyance of doing these interviews. He saw them as an unfortunate part of his chosen field, buy he just seem so tired of the same questions year after bloody year. I notice he wouldn't hesitate to show he was annoyed. Given that he was a decent person and a class act he did his best to stay composed but I always felt his annoyance. Every once in a while there would be an interviewer that would ask interesting, intriguing questions and that would be an interview Bowie wouldn't mind and would be very engaged. Well just my two cents but that's what I felt throughout all these years of watching so many of his interviewers.

@rammusic43877 жыл бұрын
SheWoreLemon83 He was real, down to earth, and as normal as you could imagine. It's only people, and record companies who create this larger than life thing. I like this clip so much, for when he passed, no one spoke of the warm, gentle spirit, he really was, he would laugh at that spirit thing, never the less, it bothered me that no one spoke of the gentleman that he was, it was all about his work, which was his job. There was a lot more going on with David than his music, his innate sense of humor, his warmth, and the gentleman he was.

Thanks for posting this inside look at Bowie laying vocals for my favorite cut off the Hours LP! It's fascinating how laid back he was as he worked, casually smoking a cigarette and spilling vocals, and enjoying every minute of it. Also interesting how in this day of electronics and artists dependent on auto-tune, what came out of his mouth can go straight onto the tracks without correction or processing, and just the minimum of mix & levelling. His voice was amazing. What a feeling that kid must have for being apart of it...

I can hear the effect of tobacco on his voice over the years. I sing too, recovered my craft partly inspired by Bowie in 2013. I quit cigarettes the same year. I have unusual senses when it comes to hearing people's interior shapes and energies by listening to their voices. I can hear how the tobacco gradually shut down his high register. The difference is stark if you watch, say a concert from 1987 and then one from 1997. Then 2002, 2004. An unfortunate glitch to be sure. Still, his incredible discipline. Even with the tobacco he kept his singing in good shape, with reduced upper range. I'm 47. I still haven't found my voice top, nor bottom. Continuing practice without tobacco, especially cigarettes, continues to expand my range in both directions. I smoke weed like a Rasta too. Not joints, paper smoke is really bad. Glass pipe. It changes my voice, but does nothing to restrict my upper range. One puff off of a cigarette things start to shut down. He started young when everyone smoked cigarettes. I didn't start until my 20's. Maybe easier to quit. Also, he had Mars exactly conjunct his Sun in Capricorn. Tobacco is an herb of Mars for Euros.
@cafe.cedarbeard3 жыл бұрын
In later concerts he generally gave his higher parts, like in Sons Of The Silent Age to Gail Ann Dorsey.

He didn't just predict them he did this, (see link) which made him very rich at a time when many others were getting screwed. My girlfriend's best mate did the two documentaries for the BBC and became good friends with Bowie in the process. They all talked about him like he was a proper diamond geezer. I went to the first screening of the Last Five Years in Soho and all the musicians that worked with him were in the audience. I used to work as a sound engineer and I've met some proper a-holes who work in the music business. He isn't one of them. A proper gent, respected by his peers and an inspiration to many.
