4:17 We called that "the trap" in A Block (basically SHU). If you needed to talk to a guy down in another cell you'd shout "Yo, Brian! Come to the trap!" You could also talk through the vent system if you needed a little more privacy. Of course all the other inmates could hear you but the guards couldn't. One time the night shift "forgot" to let us out for our showers for 3 whole nights and after complaining to day shift nothing changed so we all arranged through the vents to throw all our shit out the trap at the same time after dinner; Piss, shit, water, coffee, Kool-Aid, milk, condiments, trays, trash, everything. We got our showers that night.

They're great speakers because in prison they manually limit the built in speakers in devices so you need to push your ear to it to hear music, they are bad sound quality, styrofoam cups will amplify that sound a bit but not by a lot, it's like making a speaker with a yoghurt pot in school.

I went to prison for 3 weeks once (believe it or not) where most of the staff members there were very nasty where I was and I can honestly say that things like Nails, Headphones, CDs, Batteries, anything with a motor, anything that's glass, needles and stuff like that were absolutely forbidden there, let alone things like RAZOR BLADES! When I was in prison, I actually managed to carry with me a cigarette packet with a razor blade hidden beneath the layers of the packet at the bottom and that remained my secret for a while. But one fine evening, while I was on my best behavior, the staff felt the need to search me for reasons of suspicion. When they finally emptied my pockets and tore up my cigarette packet and after they discovered my razor blade they put in solitary confinement for nearly days without question. The thing is, I was only allowed to use things like an Mp3player, headphones, and a speaker only during the day under strict supervision. I was only lucky enough to keep a small alarm clock next to my bed just to keep the time. But I have to say, I found that this video really hinted on a lot of my experiences in life which is why I really enjoyed watching this because it's amazing what you can accomplish with these little things in life, I was very impressed by this! 🙂 I hope to see more videos like these! P.S: To anyone else reading this, be good and stay away from prison! 💕🙏🏻😉

Ill have to say that it's a good idea to give out the basics of the joint to people, because I have personally witnessed multiple people get smashed because without knowing they walked through a no-no lane for there race, accidentally picked up someone else's clean laundry, smacking with an open mouth at chow , having bad breath, it's pretty simple to follow a few rules as always keep good hygiene, always keep your area clean and orderly, do not touch anything that's not yours, decide early on if your willing to apply yourself to prison life or just do your own time, never take anything from someone even if they offer it to you, if a war breaks out know your place and join your race and partake. In NM if a battle is breaking you have to join your own kind, and join in the violence or you will be dealt with no matter what. Easy enough , best if you hear no evils, see no evils, and speak no evils

I love the ingenuity of all of this, I wish I could show here the lighter I was shown that some people make in the UK in prison, Not sure my description will really explain it well, We have lighters in the UK called a Clipper, the flint wheel assembly comes out in one working piece (So you can replace the flint), using a small piece of wood with a hole for the flint wheel (just deep enough to hold it) then a second hole next to it right through the wood, They would then use the strands from a mop (must be a new mop) pushed through the second hole, once the end has been burned once (like made black on the end) you can use the flint wheel to get an ember burning on the end of the mop strand which can be used to light cigarettes ect, once you've lit your cigarette simpy pull the mop strand back inside the blook of wood so it goes out. Incredibly simple but it works and in that situation thats all you need.

Brother of mine went to GC lock up in NC our home state. He ended up doing probably six years. He would talk about the many hustles people had. Your pod is one big community, got religious people, techs, college kids, all sorts of people. And everyone had to respect the other persons hustle. If you're an ink slinger and someone else is too, ask before you do. If you sell cigs and someone does too, ask first or just share. Whatever you think would prevent a fight. My brother would draw, that was his hustle. My brother would draw whatever people asked for and get 1.50 here or 4.00 there depends on how much you wanted on the paper and how long it'd take. Prisons wild man.

CMS- Correctional Medical Services Don't hold it against me, CMS was a former employer of mine when I worked as a nurse at IMSI in the late 90's. Inmates used to hail me down by hollering out, "CMS!" It's just what they would call out to get our attention. There's quite a bit of ingenuity amongst the inmates. Making tat guns out of calculator parts, boiled down mushy pasta used to sculpt art pieces.....and the contraband collection we were shown during our 3 week training and orientation program was impressive!
