Every time I hear a story about it, New York City sounds dystopian. I talked to a lady from NYC in the course of my work who explained that people would park in front of her driveway and block it, so she couldn't park her car there or she'd never get out. She said no one could call the cops and get a car towed because they're so afraid of retaliation. You know how hard it is to get by when you own a business? With all this extra mob tax, I don't know how anyone gets by. Fuck that. I'd never live on a place with a mob presence. Here in a rural area, yea, cops don't do shit if you get robbed. They are useless, like our own little mob presence, shaking people down for minor traffic violations or drug possession. But it sounds like in New York City, not only are the cops still useless, but the criminals are like a second layer that you have to deal with too.
