Parrying/Perfect Shielding: Most low-intermediate level players don't do it because they think it's too difficult or complicated... It's really not. Right when you think they're about to hit your shield, release it. Once you get the timing down, it dramatically weakens certain character's neutrals, opens up a completely new realm of punishes, and makes projectiles much easier to deal with. It forces your enemy to respect your space and carefully mix up their options.
@cesarllanos15854 жыл бұрын
This is why I say Shulk is NOT top tier. Parrying invalidates Shulk’s ability to approach opponents who are well practiced enough to do it consistently. His frame data and ending lag are so substantial that parrying will ALWAYS put him in disadvantage and force him to go into shield monado. And once your opponent knows this it’s game
@Endershock16784 жыл бұрын
@@cesarllanos1585 Shulk is defintely not as affected as you wanna claim he is. His moves have insanely low end lag (I don't know where the claim he has substantial end lag comes from, his nair has a mere 6 frames and his fair a mere 10) on top of very high range, so even if you parry, unless you play a character with a fast high range f-tilt or F Smash, he'll still be completely unpunishable. He's in the same category as Lucina, where you have to basically not be spacing at all to get punished even if you parry, and the best they can get is a read punish. The only thing this will do is force Shulk to space, which Shulk should be doing anyways unless they're one of those bad ones that spam nair on shield. In fact, Shulk can punish many characters for even attempting to punish by F-Tilting while they are in their initial dash assuming they don't have enough range to hit him, which very few do. At peak levels, Shulk can even cancel his landing lag using Monado Art Swap, which gives him another option deal with Parry.
@Riley-u8m4 жыл бұрын
@@Endershock1678 He is among the top 2 worst in terms of endlag . but it isn’t too easy to punish shulks aerials because of their range
@Riley-u8m4 жыл бұрын
I think you mean landing lag
@Endershock16784 жыл бұрын
@@Riley-u8m Yes, I mean landing lag, and his endlag is awful, but the landing lag is very low. His nair has only 6 frames of landing lag, and is around -2 to -3 on shield. His fair and bair are both -5 to -6, and his up air is -4 to -5. His dair is the most unsafe move, but has so much range you can drift away before hitting it and auto cancel it before you hit the ground. Don't get me wrong, his moves have an lot amount of endlag, but the only time that's applicable is if he's offstage edge guarding or reverse edge guarding, where parrying isn't relevant.

I think pummeling is a pretty underrated mechanic that very few people use. It can give you sense of how much of a masher your opponent is, force an opponent that hates mashing into mashing or they take 30% damage free and if they are a crazy masher you can condition them into mashing on grab then do a throw and force them to buffer an awkward option that can give you some very strong advantage or if it's a buffered airdodge could potentially just outright kill your opponent. At high % even characters without kill throws can get a ton of reward off a single grab rather than just awkwardly throwing them for 6 damage immediately after the grab and just further conditioning your opponent that shielding is A-OK because you aren't punishing them.

I feel like another underused tech is one i call charge cancelling, it works for charge type moves, but also it works with hero menu too. how it works is when you're charging a move in the air, using your double jump close enough to the ground will cause you to land and cancel your charging state, allowing you to move freely when you hit the ground. Salem shows it here with Hero kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJ6vqH6HlK2Wq7M

I know about this too because it's applicable to cloud's limit charge cancelling. I can say from experience that there's a lot of other things that I will need to work on before I get to that level. While this isn’t a technique and is more a gameplay style, i think that one thing people should start doing more is shield baiting. People usually do a few things out of shield: shield grab after attack hits, roll, jump aerial, spot dodge, or jump away. If someone is shielding while you are applying pressure, it’s good to bait pressure and then either dash or double jump away or tomohawk to bait out a response from the other play and then punish that.

Auto canceling is move dependent. If you land a move while the animation is still out but the hitbox isn’t, an auto cancel will be performed. It’s not difficult. You just have to learn when to land with the attack. Like wolf. His short hopped bair can be auto canceled if you fast fall after a short hop bair

Whenever I try to walk I either move the stick too fast and run anyways, making myself look stupid in the process of trying to walk, or I move the stick too slow and get attacked immediately.

Thinking is a pretty underused technique. Just really planning and focusing. We autopilot really easily

Very true. It’s hard to think in certain situations though because you might not know when the opponent will pressure you.

It’s better we forget about that tech. It’ll kill the game.
