Something hard to explain but rewarding when executed... is conditioning. Know the opponents recovery and options. Then bait and punish. Treat options like a 50/50 low high or RPS aka jump/attack/recover
@TheTrickmeister4 жыл бұрын
marshall coleman probably the simplest way of explaining conditioning is letting the opponent get away with a certain option for some time, then punishing the option later on after baiting it. Best saved for taking stocks.

One thing you can also do is mix-up when you edge guard alongside your ledge trap game or vice verse. I usually ledge trap a lot to make the opponent think I'm waiting, than once in a while, I'll go off-stage to attempt a edge guard when the opponent doesn't expect it, and possibly get a stock. I've done this a lot in friendlies, locals (before the pandemic happened), and recently a wifi regional bracket, and I won some rounds and took stocks because of it. It's the same case as this video, mixup your ledge trap and edge guard attempt to bait opponents to secure the stock or maintain stage control.

That clip at about 8:00 in the video made me think about how being put in a tech scenario can work, because if you hit the tech, your opponent becomes very punishable. In this example, Captain Falcon is caught up in Ganondorf's Up-B, but Falcon hit the tech, so he could easily go for either a B-Air or F-Air, depending on whether or not he grabbed the ledge.

as a mario main, i actually have less problems with edge guarding. if some one tries to revover low;the cape is the way to go. if some one tris to recover high; cape, forward air and up air could do it; recovering in a neutral height(between the first 2) cape or forawrd air

I love taking away an opponent's resources one by one in extended edgeguard scenarios. Unfortunately, a lot of character designs have all their good options refresh on hit, so at best I'm just tacking on extra % until they make it back to the ledge. So frustrating.
