Hey Larry, I followed you when you first made a channel and now since you do more kayak related things. I fish kayak tournaments regularly. Here’s some tips that I’ve kind of adopted this year. -my ketch board has 2 places for the identifier. To the right of the fish and it slides (like an arm ID badge from Amazon), and one right above where the head would be by using the ketch id holder. -use the catch, photo, gripper method. Catch the fish, use grippers to hold it while you get your self situated. Prop up your net to the left side of your board so you don’t lose fish (I’ve lost 4 this year and 2 were in the same tournament) then take it off and measure/photo, back on the grips to revive, then good to go. -adopt hooks you believe in. In this cheap world we live in, hooks are randomly good. Whether the bait is new or used I always replace the hooks and I usually go a size up. I also I’ll file the hooks if I don’t have new ones. -I’d highly recommend getting a kayak crate with a battery box or even just a waterproof box. I fish in Texas and the exposed wires and battery will get ruined if not covered. The sun bakes them. -Jigs! Powerbait Swim shad in the pogy color! And don’t be afraid to throw spinnerbaits or real buzzbaits

Try changing out your braid to mono so it has more stretch or switch to a softer more moderate rod for the choppo and you’ll land more fish my man

I don't loose many fish and it's mostly my fault like tieing on a fly on the other rod whilst setting the hook with the trolling motor on full turning finishing the knot after dropping the line. Stuff like that. I trully believe that sharpening you're hook with a diamond stone to a hypodermic point ya know like a pointy chiesel. If it sticks in your thumnail it's sharp if it goes through you're nail then tou are getting really good at it. In about 50 years let me know how it worked for you. Some hooks come sharp and you will notice this cause they can nake you bleed. You don't have to sharpen those until they get dull from use. Don't get to pointy cayse ut will burr or bend backwards. Remember the chiesel point.
