Considering some of the mockery he's faced in some of these videos, his response was particularly dignified and congenial. What's more he was honest, and defended himself in a manner without stooping to the level of his detractors. Well done.

+culiet mortalis shit chain mail armor, at an extremely close range. I could shoot level 1 body armor all day with a .22lr and say that having a .22 is the most effective weapon. But that doesn't stope the fact that most people are wearing at least level 3 plus a SAPI plate.

"You don't have to pull down your intelligent level when you talk to somebody who can't achieve what you have achieved, they are just stupid fellas". I saw a lot of comments that they tell he is full of shit, because of his light bow he uses. I mean they are really stupid af, XD many asian countries they use small bow, fit for them will make more easy to use (except Japanese), and more easy to use means it is flexible to shoot while riding horses (Chinese, Mongolian, Vietnamese battles, with forest terrain, heavy bow is not reccomended) or even you can shoot and run. They also prefer to made their own bow from tree branches. XD there is no right and wrong in archery history, it is all about skill, no matter what kind of bow they use. This guy is actually good, he maybe wrong about the history, but he earns my respect, to remind all this sinking history that people don't give a shit about it at present. But I think this guy had to practice many times to relflect and catch the arrow, his video has been cut for sure. XD

Jaden Nono but most of the points he addressed he admitted the veracity of them and kinda blended his explanation a bit to cover it. Ie: the back quiver, back stepped from never used in history to not very widely used. While I could understand this from a linguist standpoint since his native language isn’t English, he isn’t refuting the claim he is changing his claim slightly. I will say he is being civil though so I applaud him for that.

He may be a poor academic historian, but people's doubts about speed shooting and the thumb technique are unjustified. For instance the thumb technique is prominant in the east like mongols, chinese, indians and koreans, and also a vital skill in japanese samurai culture (see kyujutsu and kyudo) For speed shooting, in the case of horse archers, shooting quickly and accurately is a necessity in war as opposed to a controlled volley from a battalion of infantry archers wielding heavier bows. This is also true for skirmish warriors that need to use run and shoot techniques, as they are not heavily armoured infantry standing on a fortified position with guarded flanks that can afford to stand and take a proper aim.
@ummonk
@ummonk 7 жыл бұрын
He isn't actually using the thumb technique (which he should be if he were following Arab Archery in detail). He is just doing a 3-finger grip on the right side of the bow. Which is perfectly okay of course.

He's definitely a neat guy. I can see the arguments that there are still some aspects in his style that wouldn't work against several opponents (armored, for example. That arrow will probably have a rough time piercing underarmor and padding), but I really love his personality and classy responses. He acts more mature then those who go against him, and my respect for him as really climbed.

+Emnuzuse Alor Yes, he has a good honest personality. From what he's suggesting, the same technique can be applied to the more powerful long bow. Though, he doesn't have enough strength for it. I guess to train for long bow, you need to be have good physical fitness and a good understanding of the technique Lars rediscovered. :)

+Emnuzuse Alor Speed shooting wouldn't work against any opponent you'd realistically expect an archer to face. If I put on a heavy winter jacket it'll stop an arrow fired from 30lb bow. Lars does trick shooting. Not putting him down, trick shooting is different than combat or sport shooting but no worse or better. He is an entertainer and what he does is entertaining but the claims that he makes about combat archery are 100% bullshit in the exact same way as a stage magician claiming that the devil grants them supernatural powers.
@VienPeaaace
@VienPeaaace 9 жыл бұрын
+Alejandro Gonzales chest plate or full plate was built to deflect sword, axe and arrow in the first place, even those people with longbow and stationary position wont pierce thru it anyway, so his style was better most of the time unless those hater challenge him to somekind of shooting target that detects arrow pressure, nobody would ever know if his fire is weaker than your average stationary, slow shooter (most archer spend the time for aiming anyway), which i believe nobody would dare anyway

@Edited6 9 жыл бұрын
+srbin pravoslavac I feel the opposite. His skills are impressive, maybe not practical but that's largely irrelevant for modern archery anyways. What he's capable of is impressive, regardless of the context imo. My access to his personality is severely limited and therefor my words here are essentially gossip. But from the get-go I've imagined him as cocky and baaws's description of an encounter with him doesn't surprise me at all. I should probably mention I'm not trying to talk shit at all. I may not admire it but I don't consider cockiness inherently problematic and I think this video demonstrates a healthy balance. He admitted to the original videos over the top nature and was able to address detractors without veering into arrogance, and I respect that. +HenkibenkiSan I think that may be a misconception due to his thick accent. When unfamiliar with a language you're bound to seem a bit awkward trying to speak it, y'know? 'Cuz beyond the language barrier this guy just exudes confidence, which is quite the opposite of awkwardness.

Archers instinct, same with people blocking arrows with shields its like they could feel where to put up the shield correctly, its a trained fact too by using blunt arrows long time ago, still takes skill to put up the shield correctly, but thru time the shields got longer and bigger thus minimizing the skill to block.

am i the only one who sees that this is mostly about the terminology and specific dialogue used...might have something to do with him not speaking perfect English. i could master archery and then translate it poorly to German and get everyone confused...yes it means i suck at German but not at archery. (this is an analogy, i DO in fact suck at archery, just to clarify) so yea we could sit and splice together historical images and snippits and opinions to either confirm or bust the whole narration but the fact remains...the dude is robin-hooding arrows, hitting moving soda tabs and firing extraordinarily fast so why does it matter HOW he go there? lars obviously has some communication issues but the guy can fucking shoot. catching an arrow isnt less difficult just because he doesnt English good. were focusing on the wrong thing. its a video about archery...not how amazing lars is at being a teacher. even if the history is inaccurate, that is some damn good shooting. hes not a history professor people...hes an archer. maybe lets be concerned about the archery.

well, I'm assuming the basis of the criticism comes from the implied "combat" application of the techniques. You wouldn't pierce any armour (not even a gambeson, I'd bet) with a low poundage bow, and you wouldn't catch an arrow from a warbow with your hand in a situation where your life would depend on it. Lars himself clearly doesn't deny that, nor does he deny that most of what we know comes from pictures.. And those depend on artists actually knowing the subject matter - I'm pretty sure most of them weren't skilled archers, hell, a lot of them couldn't even get bodily proportions right - how can you expect them to draw an archer's grip on the string correctly? Not saying Lars isn't skilled though, he is. Just not not as an ancient god of war, raining countless arrows on his enemies, hitting every single one in the helmet visors and piercing plate mail left and right (which is what quite a few people seem to believe). Again, I don't think he considers himself one.

EVERTHING in his video was done with trick angles and editing. He cannot do any of these tricks in reality. He is fooling you. The fact that he cannot even explain what the Archers Paradox is should be proof of that enough. You see it in movies all of the time. Amazing arrow shots that seem impossible. Do you think it's real? No, it is very well timed, well placed and well shot angles. Do not be fooled by someone just because they can do a few Hollywood tricks. Editing and skill in archery are two different things.

But to my knowledge, even the ones that made arguments video about him do realized their arguments about him took on ancient drawings as basic facts cannot absolutely written off as wrong or right. It is not possible due to the lack of documentation. Which left us to the most basic question. Does it works? Yes..yes...argument or not, can you really undermined the effect on lars to the archery as whole? Is it fair that there is stupid people that believe whatever they watch in youtube and acted as if they were archery experts and blaming their action to lars? Why, then go blame the whole mass media then. Yes it is irksome on some the effects from his video, but still it is helping very much that people do come and started training in almost lost art of archery. Correctly. It does do good for the archery training school right?

lisa49738 If you'd like to learn a technique that will put you at a fast pace, I've posted an instructional video of my method you may find helpful, and applicable to all weights of draw and all types of arrows & arrow tips. Shooting 3 arrows in 1.5 sec is to determine dexterity, in which I agree is a good test, but by no means is intended as a standard for bows of any applicable weight (50#+) as you're physically limited to how fast you can yank back the draw weight, aside from articulating your grip in any way. That said, achieving 3 arrows in 3.5-4 sec. wouldn't be unheard of after about a month of training. The best I've been able to come up with is 3 arrows in 2.78 sec at which real issues begin to occur, and quite often.

Very few of his critics are skeptical of his skill. The main problem stems from the misinformation about history and archery that his videos spread.
@couchking1
@couchking1 5 жыл бұрын
@@taylorhaws6402 Oh? And what is this misinformation? Can you quote exact phrases that he said, or at least provide the minute and second in the video, and links to other videos that he has made? In this video he has already made an adequate defense of everything that has been claimed against him, so I don't exactly understand what you are trying to argue.
@taylorhaws6402
@taylorhaws6402 5 жыл бұрын
@@couchking1 Just to name a few, I will copy and paste my response to someone who asked a similar question. First of all, Lars claims that historically, people did not put the arrow on the left side of the bow, and this is just a recent idea. However, people throughout history have used various archery techniques depending on the goal of the archer. Some of these techniques involved putting the arrow on the left, some on the right. Both sides have advantages and disadvantages. He also says that shooting at a stationary, two-dimensional target is not something that archers did historically. This is completely untrue. Archers have always used stationary targets because it is the most simple way to practice archery. The targets may not have always looked exactly like our modern targets, but many of them did look remarkably similar. Stationary, two-dimensional targets are not simply a modern invention. His most inaccurate video, he has taken down, so credit goes to him for that. But I still feel it has done harm in spreading misinformation. Just to prove that he actually made this video, here is a link to a response to the video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/poCbnWutdr91iqs In the video, he makes several points. The first is that volley fire was useless because people could just raise a shield. This claim is utterly ridiculous and anyone who does the bare minimum amount of research will know this is not true. Volley fire is often misrepresented in movies and media, but it was still very prevalent. He also says that from a long distance, people can dodge arrows, so archery was not used at long ranges. That’s right, Lars claims that the bow and arrow is not a long-range weapon! Yes, arrows are easy to dodge at long distances, but bows were primarily used in large groups shooting at large groups rather than single archers shooting at one individual. In this very video, Lars shows a misunderstanding of what the archer's paradox is. The bending of an arrow is not a paradox. A paradox is a set of variables that contradict one another. The archer's paradox is the fact that the shaft of the bow is in the way of the arrow, and therefore should not go straight when loosed, but it does. The flexing of the arrow in flight is the solution to the archer's paradox as the arrow will bend around the bow and continue to flex back and forth while flying. Lars misinforms his audience about the overall historical prevalence and practicality of speed-shooting. It looks cool and at first glance, it seems like it would be practical. However, when we think about things logically, archers throughout history have rarely ever been put in a situation where speed-shooting is necessary. On the battlefield, archers would shoot in groups, so there would always be dozens of arrows in the air, thus essentially eliminating the need for extream rates of fire, and at distances where speed-shooting would be necessary, weapons such as spears or other types of polearms would be far more effective. One of the only ways speed-shooting was used in combat was horse archers. Lars’ technique is good, but it wouldn't work for a horse archer. Imagine galloping on horseback through a battlefield while holding a dozen arrows by the nocks between your fingers. And finally, what I consider to be the biggest problem with his content of all, and the reason so many archers are mad at him, he claims that his style of archery is the best possible type in all forms, and people who practice other forms of archery are using inferior techniques. What Lars does is impressive, but it is not the best technique for all situations. It is not as good for firing accurately over long distances, and shooting from the right side of the bow necessitates the use of the thumb draw, which will limit the draw weight of the bow he is using. If Lars entered an archery competition, even a barebow one, he would lose. If he went bowhunting, he would have no clue what he was doing. When shooting at disks thrown into the air at high speeds, lars is unmatched.

I'm learning it right now. it's real, it's hard. I'm reading the same books he read too. There are various ways to do it what is more important than anything though is the nocks (after knowing how to shoot & getting used to the motions ofc). Make sure the nocks are crossed imagine a "X" or "V" shape something wide enough to nock it fast to the string but not as wide as to hit the bow on release which would interrupt the arrow's flight. Modern nocks aren't very good for doing the "Arrow Shower" technique that Lars learned from Arab Archery. The style was invented because other weapon users (sword, spear, etc) used to mock archers that they had long intervals of dead time after shooting an arrow claiming that their weapon of choice was inferior to the sword or spear because it cannot attack consistently. Well they were dead wrong. If you want to learn to Arrow Shower tho I recommend you to start learning the motions with 1 arrow first, then add 2 then 3, etc. There are various ways to do it the easiest is holding the arrows with nocks in your palm arrow head facing down tot he ground then you lift it & into firing position it goes. Do that over & over & over until you get it. After that if you want you can do the "wolverine" method which Lars uses in this vid. placing arrows between fingers, it's the fastest but takes more time getting used to. You can place more than 1 arrow between fingers at first practice this method with only your string holding fingers like Lars in the vid or the fingers just next below again start with 1 arrow you're learning, then 2, 3, 4, etc.
