He’s saying “I don’t know about the windshield wiper”, referring to the 4th incident where Jack sliced off a woman’s breast and placed one of them on a cop-car’s windshield.

These two men are so fucking great at their craft. And neither of the care psychopaths haha. Von Trier is too sensitive to be a psychopath

Am I the only one who prefers this sort of thing to the norm? Typical Hollywood movies, tend to get a tad bit tedious. I loved The House That Jack Built, it just made a change. Sure it was very disturbing but you know it was very good.

It's really weird. That one time that he seems to get so much praise even from outside his fanbase is the one time when i don't really feel the movie. I love most of his work, Dogville, Antichrist, Melancholia, Nymphomaniac, even the more obscure stuff like Riget. I guess you could say he's my favorite director even though that doesn't say a lot cuz I'm not much of a movie person. He's always walked the fine line between provocation and art. With this latest movie, it feels like provocation for its own sake with not much substance. He's obviously at a bad place right now and he probably used this movie as his outlet for all his anxiety and depression. however, he used to be able to capture even depression so masterfully in movies like Antichrist. It seems to me as if he ran out of genuine stories to tell and he just wants to use art to unleash all his fury and anxiety onto the world. Which is still entertaining to watch but he used to be so much more.

Feel ya, for me House That Jack Built is an attempt at making Von Trier even more in mainstream, everything is on face of the viewer, there's not much of a visual substance, it's very "these days" type of film. As he once said "I want my films to be watched by that many people so that I can make another one, not less and not more", so I guess we need to wait for season 3 of Riget and hope it's where money laundrying House That Jack Built comes from

@@andreafomasidirector i don't think romantizing serial killers is that much of a provocation today. Apart from the greatest scene in which Jack has a stroke of his art-related thoughts composed with imaginery from actual Auschwitz archive footage, none of the things in nature of House That Jack Built are fresh for Lars. It's basically Nymphomaniac, when you think about it, just other layer for symbolism. (I'd also like to point out that sex addiction is way more sensitive topic than serial killers in popculture)
