Dogville is an absolute masterpiece one of the best films in history and he deserves a novel prize in literature for writing it

This kinda doesn't go anywhere, the press is trying to get him to reveal all this stuff about his ideas and motivations, and this is just NOT the environment to get into it.

I don't know why they all seem stressed-out and somewhat frustrated. Of course, they try to put up a good front by so-called joking, however, it's so obvious that they don't exactly know what they're saying. To me, Nicole ain't like this crew. That's why she didn't take part in the second one. The only reason which was mentioned was that Nicole's schedule was too busy and it didn't allow her to take part. This is a lame excuse. Actors as famous, popular and wealthy as Nicole, can change their schedules in any way that they want.

Judging by the things I've read, heard and her body language here.. I'd say he crossed some serious boundaries and she hasn't been the only one affected by his poor behaviour sadly. The reason given was clearly a cover up to avoid further questioning and to keep the peace, which is absolutely understandable. Whatever the reason, I don't blame her for pulling out and it's clear as day why she did. He's not someone I'd like to work with whatsoever, amazing art but seems like a sociopathic asshole. Just my two cents.

The stage set was terrible!!! Ruined the whole movie! Good message, but could have been so much more with a realistic setting.

I agree with the above comment. It worked for this film. The story and acting carried the film more than sufficiently. And you can see his later films if you prefer another style it just Dogville and Manderlay like this.

Though it would have worked great in a realistic setting, the minimalism of the set allowed for the behaviour of the characters and sentiment of their action to become more apparent. Not only that, the disorientating nature of the allowed you to fall into a sense of discomfort, which I think allows you to be immersed into the the brutal emotional landscapes in which the characters reside. The film was a wonderful challenge, but definitely not the type of film to pop on when you’re wanting a cosy morning in bed!!

To be not distracted by stage sets and keep the focus of the performance was the point with nothing else to gaze at.
