Larson P5 extremely impressive for an Indy 500 rookie. Still can't believe Marcus ended his 1st run on lap 4 after they told him "white flag" but he still made it. Team Penske front row sweep and Siegel getting bumped was very predictable but qualifying was very enjoyable. NBC's broadcast was great.

Going to the Indy 500 for the first time this year for my first ever indycar race, and I am so excited! Will be sitting at the entrance of turn 3. The first lap is going to be so great seeing the cars come into turn 3.

You’re going to love it! If you can go into the track at least an hour before the race to catch the pre race stuff and if you can go to the track on Saturday and go in, walk around and all that and the museum if it’s open (it may not be open this year due to remodel)

You're gonna be at the passing zone at end of backstretch. One of 2. Watch them setup, then complete the pass. Also..lotta stuff removed from infield at north end of track, so you'll see them go into T 4 as well.

Although I will follow all three Kiwi's, Larson is my adopted Kiwi following his many seasons racing at Western Springs Speedway in Auckland New Zealand as a teenager. I follow him in Nascar, Sprintcar and Midget he introduced me to Late Model racing after Covid and now Indy...I hope he milks the cow. Its a thing...I didn't know either! He is not only transending racing deciplines but also introducting international fans to American racing and traditions.

One of the best drivers in the world based on what? World is not USA. He has never raced and proven himself in Europe neither in F1 nor in GTs, and the same thing can be said about Verstappen, for example, who has never raced and proven himself in any competition outside Europe. The expression "best in the world" doesn't really make any sense in auto racing nowadays. It only had meaning back in the days when a few great drivers used to race and win all around the world.

Obviously the 3 Penske cars are the favorites. It would ironic though after all these years of not winning since 08 despite often having the fastest car, if Scott Dixon just wins with a slow car because the timing of yellows gives him a shot to pull off another Dixon fuel mileage miracle. The ironic thing is Dixon hasn't really tried too many off sequence strategies or fuel mileage gambles at the Indy 500, because when you have the fastest car, you don't go off sequence. BUT now that he's in a slower car (although I do expect their race pace to be better), he's more likely to try a Dixon like strategy.

As recently as march 2024 I respected Penske racing . Now I am openly rooting against their team. Particularly this week. Back in 1982 their 2 car team was dominant in qualifying but Mears just missed winning the race.

He's not just a "NASCAR guy." That just happens to be the route he went with his career. He has just as good of a chance to win the race as anybody in the field, even being his first Indycar race. He's that talented and skilled.

Ugh. I am still pretty shocked that Herta wasn't even in the final 12. He had been showing his pace during every practice and seemed like a shoe in for the top 12; even though he got screwed by the qualifying draw time(yet others were able to make it happen late in the session; Vee Kay, OWard and the other few). I'm hoping to see him in the mix with a dozen laps left. He can definitely do it from the 5th row... I still wish Herta was actually in Italy this weekend, dusting Yuki in the RB in F1. He'd have been such a better American driver to root for instead of Sargent.

Yeah they were very very fast. I don’t hate Penske but I’d like to see good racing at the front. I was at Indy in 2019 when pagenaud won and he swept the entire month and dominated most of the race. And Penske won last year as well. I think there will be Penske at front all day for sure but hopefully others can challenge them

Even to this day, I'm still pissed that Scott Goodyear screwed up. It's too bad we haven't seen a throwback paint job similar to Scott Goodyear's LCI Honda since. We may had to wait 9 more years, but it was indeed supersweet for Buddy Rice to make up for that by giving Honda a dominant win in 2004.

Both look very nasty Thursday and Friday with severe storms and possible hail. It would be my 4th. So, risk weather and hail damage to my car, vs. seeing Kyle Larson race.

Listening to the post-qualifying press conference, it seems like all 3 Penske drivers have all their ducks in a row and are willing to help each other out. Will even said "I don't care about if I win as long as a Penske does" or words to that effect. I think they will control the race, swapping places as necessary to stretch the fuel mileage while also having the "policeman" at the back to hold the others off at least until 40 laps to go or even the final "green" pitstop inside the last 100 miles and then let them loose to battle out for the win (unless they have already decided to let Scotty Mac win to repeat history from 1988 and also so that all 3 have a "500" victory)

A question for Indycar experts. I grew up following F1 so have no idea re the nitty gritty of indycar engine freedoms. Amongst the Chevy engined cars, what freedoms does each team have around how they fit them up? - can they design their own extractors, wastegate pies, boosted pipework to the plenum, the plenum itself or is all of that spec delivered gear from Chevy that accompanies the long motor? Just the fact that Penske never had a drama with plenum fires had me wondering if they have design work of their own in the bolt-ons that proved favourable, or was it just that their cars were so fast that they were able to run 6th gear hard and didn't require the down changes that the other teams needed?

The teams can not do anything to the engines. Chevy reps deliver them to the garage (at Indy I am speaking of) and the teams can only install and remove. They go directly into a crate where they are then wheeled off by Chevy reps (or Honda reps). The teams make nothing at all for the cars outside of wire harnesses, which does not include engine wiring.

Assuming that means the shock/damper package. Guess they are running a shock package not see in Indycar before which is the only open area for development by the teams. After everything that happened in the first race of the season, every single time they are on the track now, everything for each car would be scrutinised more than than the rest of the field combined. Yes they did in in St. Petersburg and got caught but there is too much scrutiny on everything now to be able to do it. I definitely feel bad for Nolan Seigel. Totally pissed off that Penske has hogged the front row. But that's why I put money on Penske just in case as disappointment insurance. Even so, I'm praying Penske loses miserably as I hate that team. Tops, I hope Alex Palou wins. Penske failing to qualify for the Indy 500 in 1995 was a sweet treat. Even now, I wish it was Scott Goodyear that had won that one.
