Chet, noticed you cleaning out a tile inlet pipe. I use a riser pipe with holes to collect the water and dig a basin around the riser pipe as a small catch basin. The riser pipe has a cap on top. The debris stays in the basin and the riser pipe with holes provides ample area for water collection. Really appreciate your channel and watch every new one.

Chet, I have noticed that atrazine sticks in the inline screens on the sprayers. We run two rinse cycles of 100 gallons of fresh water then pull every screen and clean them. One more cycle of 50 gallons of water. Havent had any issues with contamination.
@spencerscott63472 ай бұрын
is that not how you clean out? always clean the screen. start with 3 50gal water rinses. 1 100 gal ammonia rinse. clean filters. 2 more 50gal water rinse.

We had the same problem in beans fields around our area last year. They would be spraying, stop to fill and almost every field would have the same "eagle wing" damage to it. It was worse where they stopped for lunch or needed to work on sprayer. The only answer we could come up was that as the chemical sat in the black lines on the boom and other hoses and got "hotter". And as soon as cooler water from main tank got to running through hoses it came out fine. This happened to several farmers and to the custom applicators.

I’m a custom applicator. Obviously cleaning out every day with a rinse cycle on atrazine is best but if you do end up having to leave it in use some roundup to get atrazine out . If it’s sat for awhile let roundup sit in tank and booms overnight. It’s two clean outs if going to bean chem but roundup is the best at getting out atrazine . We are in Idaho and spray 12 different crops so I know this works from experience.

Interesting video. I know when we have down time between spraying with rain or wind like you do, we go out and start the machines and let everything circulate for about half hour. We also will find a spot to run the boom for a little while. This seems to help keep things mixed and fresh. One year, we had to buy a liquid tank and transfer everything into it and flush the boom. Then put back into sprayer when was ready to go. We try not to keep chemicals in sprayer for extended time.

Chet...in addition to all the suggestions left in the comments. Never leave atrazine or roundup in plastic or rubber. If you can leave a sufficient amount of air in the lines there will be some oxidation of the chemical in the lines. Leaving insecticide and/or fertilizer is not a hazard to the crop but is a hazard to pumps ant corrodible parts. It would be good to have tanks where you could store unused mixed products for overnight/week/temp storage. Dawn, ammonia, erase are all good products but they can only do so much. You have a big farm so I understand why you would let products sit overnight and then unintentionally for more than that. Hope that helps and happy farming.

I’ve struggled with chem build up for years. This year, besides doing a solution system and boom rinse at the end of the day. This year I religiously added a quart of Dawn in every tank. But when I sprayed our corn, that contained atrazine, I also added compatibility agent. They said I only needed to add when I started to see build up. But I chose to add it to every tank. By adding the Dawn and Compatibility Agent added $.45/acre. In the end, I have never had as clean of a tank,filters and booms,at the end of corn spraying season. Not sure which one helped the most, but I’m going to use the same method next year.

Between 3 generations of spray businesses and more acres sprayed than I could ever count, my family doesn't have that problem (At least not to my knowledge). Our solution is simply just being ahead of things as much as possible. Everytime we switch to a different crop, we wash out: We load our sprayers with a few hundred gallons in the main tank, as well as filling the rinse tank. While we load the water we rinse out the inductor as well. Spray out the entire main tank, then rinse it out and spray the rest of the water from the rinse tank as well. We repeat this 3-4 times or until we feel confident about it. We try not to leave chemical in it for more than a week. If the forecast shows bad conditions for an extended period of time while our sprayers are loaded, we'll unload them into an empty (cleaned/washed out) shuttle and spray it when we can. When we have left chemical in our sprayer for longer than we liked, we would also pressure wash the inside of the tank when we wash out. Basically we do an excess amount of cleaning, as well as be extra cautious with the amount of time that the sprayer has chemical in it, to prevent accidents like this. This has worked for us for years, but I hope you can figure out something that works for you! Good luck!

I custom spray for a living and at the end of every atrazine day I run a single rinse cycle to flush out the system. We used to have that problem with transporb roundup. It would seep into the rubber hoses and then when we would spray wheat or anything not round up ready. it would smoke it like how your field was damaged. So we stopped leaving the solution in the boom overnight and we don’t have the problem anymore. We just do that with everything. We keep the solution out of the boom overnights. Which is easy to do on our sprayer. But some are not set up to easily remove the solution in the boom with solution in the tank overnight.

Then put fresh water in, blow that out. Blow your filter out. I've never had any problem. But each situation is different. Good video

Had the residual problem with a generic oats chem a couple years ago.... actually alot of farmers in the area had the issue... after some time a lawyer contacted me and asked for a estimate on $ damage, I detailed all the damage, was just over 100k, they settled on 90k... it was a issue with their chemistry made it nearly impossible to clean... I wasn't expecting anything... got lucky but it was not fun driving past all my canola fields with eagle wings for the first half mile after every fill and after that it probably did some damage to the rest of the canola field .. maybe I lost more money than I estimated. Had a lot of different farms and fields in our area with the same atrazine problems earlier this year, and oddly enough it was the same situation where everyone had strips that matched their sprayer but what the seed salesmen and agronomists came up with was the dry summer last year didn't allow the crops to fully utilize what was applied a year ago combined with the mild winter keep the atrazine laying "dormant" until the wet spring reactivated it. So the problem was atrazine carry over from last year due to a specific and unusual weather circumstances. This same problem was found on different farms, who all have their own cleanout methods, some were done by the local co-ops, custom sprayers, throughout different field types, and seed brands atrazine carryover was accepted result in my area. Just one of the many tings that are out of our control as farmers.

Yeah atrazine is 1 of them chemicals that I rinse out every day because for me it gets stuck in the line and blocks nozzles. I also like to stand on top of the tank and try to pressure wash the inside of the tank as best I can with out getting inside to try and loosen up anything that has stuck to the sides of the tank when I'm changing to a different product. I've also been told insecticides are good at stripping out the inside of spray tanks so I guess be careful when going on to them if you have had something inside the tank that will kill the next crop you are in.

We take every end cap off of each section and spray water straight down each line till clean. When in doubt, do a trial of an early applied generic fungicide on an early corn field. That way the “curse of the first tank after atrazine” won’t kill your corn anyway. Have a great day.

Another cause can be with enlist one, dual, plus a CoC or MSO if you don’t purge your booms of product that sits over night the oils separate out and then the chemical not being mixed in the booms can cause that issue as well. A good reason for the new recirculating plumbing on booms now
