My dog did the same thing that Toby does until one day he saw my very large battle scarred tomcat standing in the middle of our farm. My dog ran full speed toward him and my tomcat never blinked an Eye or moved a muscle until the dog was about a foot away and the cat let him have it!!! Laid an absolute lickin’ on him!!! Three years later that dog still hasn’t chased one cat since!

sometimes the opposite happens and that makes dogs more likely to go after them. Like with porcupines.

Take care Toby. Chet and Brody thanks for showing us the fields. Your soybeans are doing great I think. Considering the planting season they are doing great. Glad for you folks. Glad the tractor is fixed. This def equipment causes all kinds of problems. But glad it is going again. Eric is back strong with the sprayer which is good. Getting things going again. Ya!!!! Guess you have some soybeans to plant yet. Hang in there. Thanks Chet for the variety today and bringing us up to date on everything. You all are doing great considering the season you had. I heard that the Research Station at Indian Head, Saskatchewan "discovered" the concept of "summerfallow" one year. It was too wet back before the 1930's. They could not plant a few fields that year at the research station. The following year, the fields that were summerfallowed had noticeably better yields. Voilà, the idea spread. Now, very few people can afford to NOT plant a field. Happy July 4th. (My father-in-law was born at Indian Head in 1919.) He later became head of Agricultural Engineering at Swift Current, Sask. after he got his Engineering Degree at the U of S. A few years later he attended the Iowa State University at Ames. 👍🏻 for Toby.

You can't tell me 20+ years of drought in the States out West and snow waiting until Dec to fall in Northern Minnesota isn't climate related. Let's not forget the straight line wind events that used to be super rare happening every and some times more times a year.

Toby NEEDS a friend to play with. Family had a cockatoo that for the 1st few years of it's life it thought it was a dog. Cat's would see her and go O look a bird and when the cat got close the Cockatoo would start barking and then attack the cat. The cat's didn't know what to do, it's a bird BUT its sounds like a dog and attacks cats like a dog. Pretty soon ALL the local cat's would give the cockatoo a very wide berth as she strutted around HER YARD :D

I would consider TNSR (trap neuter/spay release) for your cats before that 30 turns into 130 and then you have to terminate 3/4 of your colony. (Especially if they should get any kind of disease that cats can aquire.) Many "county animal services" offer very affordable spay/neuter service for your feral colony. Your state may actually work also with your farmers co-op for farms, but worth checking in to. You may even have groups in the area that will assist with TNSR service. Initially it will be a bit of work catching & fixing the cats, but then you'll be able to help control the population & keep your feral colony healthy. As for Toby, he has probably already eliminated a few cats. He is a hunting animal, that's what they were originally bred for, hunting vermin. The cats have become his "target" to hunt, your encouragement to, "go get the cats" doesn't really help either. Do yourself, your farm, Toby and the cats a big favor and have him trained for the different vermin in your area ...not the cats. They serve a useful need on the farm too. Especially with all the corn & beans stored there that attract mice, rats, raccoons, weasels, etc. There would be a huge difference in the mice & rat population about without your cats around. They are not expendable animals, no more than dogs are. Both serve useful areas in the farm, but dog training & colony management is necessary for each to have the best results. I've volunteered with feline rescue groups for over 25 years and another 5 with feral cat rescue here in Texas. (I can forward you some information links if you like about feral management & help groups) Hope this helps. Great videos, you've really become a great editor too! Love the done footage ...minus the tree impact.
