I always wondered if a vibrato pedal could be made for an acoustic piano perhaps each string or group of strings have a movable anchor point or other mechanism, when the vibrato pedal is fully depressed, any notes played afterwards engage the mechanism, then by gently moving the pedal up and down tension on the string could be increased or decreased, when the pedal is released fully the mechanism is disengaged, if necessary gears or a hydraulic system could be used to create the tension needed, this would give the piano the one thing other instruments do it can't (apart from true glissando but I don't see how that would be possible other than adding a glissando string(s) with a movable stop specifically for that effect) although I imagine that, at least in the past, tuning stability would have been an issue, however with modern technology there may be ways around it, if the tuning screws are locked well enough it should return to the correct pitch and the possibility of a self tuning piano which, monitors and corrects the tension in the string automatically, exists. Probably nonsense but it could be a thing, I could see vibrato becoming as standard as sustain if a reliable way to implement it without affecting the tuning stability or durability of the piano were found! Although perhaps some pianists might resist the addition of anything extra.. I don't know, I'm a little mad! Haha!

I used to listen to vinyl records mostly of piano music. I noticed that frequently near the very end of a record there would be a vibrato effect. I assume that this is due to a difference in the angle of the arm closer to the center of the record. This was probably considered an undesirable flaw in music reproduction at the time but to me it was actually a pleasing effect, giving a sort of emotional quality to the music. Yes, it would be nice if acoustic pianos could be made to do this.

yeah, its very slight but it's probably more noticeable in person.
