As a Las Vegas local I just want to say that seeing the strip casinos losing a lot of money, makes me smile. they have done everything in their power to price out locals from ever going down there. from the $20 parking, the vastly overbuilt casinos, Zero Comps, High priced food and drinks , Along with this really boring modern corporate theme that they keep making

It's the American way. Go to other parts of the world and when the menu says "Hamburger $13.99, you pay $13.99....but in the USA when the menu says the burger costs $13.99 but with tips, add-ons and taxes, it ends up costing $18 ~ $25.00. This high cost of living (once everything is factored in) is why you need to earn $120,000 in the US to live the same level as earning $60,000 ~ $90,000 in Europe or $30,000 ~$40,000 in Asia

I booked a Vegas trip at this time last year and spent 4 nights at the Palazzo for $799 in a Grand One Bedroom Suite over the Fourth of July this year. I understand that was below normal rates but still let’s compare to this upcoming summer. Those same dates under their current cyber sale (allegedly 55% off) would run me $2,783!!!! The absolutely cheapest 4 nights I can find on their site right now for that room in the summer is $1200. You can only increase prices so much until demand falls more.

The Strip Casinos have now hit the line in the sand. They keep squeezing gamblers by lowering payouts such as 6:5 blackjack instead of 3:2 and raising table minimums. I am retired, and used to go out to Vegas as much as I could. I absolutely loved Las Vegas and couldn’t get enough of it. Have not been in years simply because the value is gone. I still gamble but keep it local. I know what Las Vegas is capable of giving. They have chosen to go in a different direction and that’s probably why revenue is down. Retirees are not dummies. They have lost a lot of my generation.

"They" say that they can't figure out why revenues on the Strip are declining. It is pretty simple really and speaking for my self, I love Las Vegas but for me, it is a combination of: Rising Hotel Rates Resort Fees Parking (both Valet & Self Park) Higher food costs Higher Table minimums Las Vegas is simply no longer a good value. Las Vegas used to be an amazing destination with cheap airfare & hotel rates but now, the resorts are charging (sometimes quite a significant amount) for services that were free not that long ago. It is reaching the point where Las Vegas is a location that I might travel through but no longer travel to. (It might be a stop on the way to or from my ultimate destination, but may not ever be the destination itself again.) As the saying goes, it is reaching the point where the juice is no longer worth the squeeze.
@gloriarivera108
@gloriarivera108 Ай бұрын
Why would those Las Vegas casino owners and executives make decisions to raise fees and charges while making payouts harder to win, and think they are incentivizing everyday gamblers to visit/gamble WHEN there are so many casino resorts across the country that are operating to provide gambling entertainment to the masses INSTEAD OF just luring the wealthiest for massive profits. GREED is the answer.
@R.Hogarth
@R.Hogarth Ай бұрын
@@gloriarivera108 I don't even think it is greed (of course I might be wrong). I think that they have lost sight of and no longer know how to "play the long game". The accountants don't care about cultivating a long term relationship with a loyal customer that will be very profitable for many years. They care about the bottom line today, this week, or this month. Even looking at the next quarter is pushing things out farther than they seem to be willing to look.

Biggest change in Vegas you cannot ignore is the price ...Vegas was once a very affordable vacation but now it seems you get gouged one way or the other in every direction you look...Especially on the Strip...One thing for sure, we will never ever again do Vegas hotels...They can gouge somebody else willing to be gouged...If and when we go to Vegas now its in the Motorhome...We have 3 different places we stay depending on what we are in Vegas for...We stay at Main St . Station RV park if we are doing Fremont St....Circus Circus RV park if we want to do the strip which is rare for us as its to damn expensive anything there...And SamsTown KOA and we rent a car there if we want to get around Vegas and explore surrounding areas....For us, Vegas has lost its luster because of the price gouging....We much more prefer places like Laughlin and Lake Tahoe (not much of a fan of Reno)...Much less crowded, more laid back, more affordable , and more our gig....And for my taste especially, i love the beauty of the Tahoe area...Its my favorite place on planet earth....

I always used to stay two nights on the Strip on each of my 3-4 trips per year. A couple of years ago, I started doing 1 downtown, 1 Strip. Not only is it more fun, but it is better on my wallet. Also, RIP Ocean One. I ate countless mahi sandwiches from there.

I bet it's not just Fremont st. that's benefiting from surplus revenue...i bet the local off strip casinos are doing well also, such as Red Rock (i know because i live in Vegas and I try to avoid the strip as much as possible and instead go to the off strip ones as much as possible, and i doubt by the strip revenue numbers, that i'm the only one doing this)

Just got back from Las Vegas (Dec. 19); stayed at Mandalay Bay for three nights. Approx. $200/night room (got on an air package) $50/night Resort Fee (was $45 when I made the reservation) $11/ 12 oz. bottle beers $10/ 16 oz. draft $14 bowl of oatmeal for breakfast $21 Denver omelet $13 for a bag of Cheetos $7 for a 28oz Gatorade $15 minimum craps - on Tuesday $20/night parking (n/a, since I didn't have a car) $150+ (base fee + taxes + venue fee + service fee)/seat for Michael Jackson ONE (impressive spectacle and effects, but basically a live action music video.) Resort is designed to make it difficult for people to leave the property. Expect to do a LOT of walking to go anywhere else. And so on, and so on, ... This trip is very possibly my last to Las Vegas. The value just isn't there anymore.

Now that MGM Grand has increased the resort fees I wonder how quickly all the other casinos follow in lockstep. They can always double or triple the resort fees to make up for lost gambling revenue. That is why I give all my business to the three casinos close to where I live. I refuse to go to Vegas and be ripped off by the greedy casinos.

My wife and I go to Vegas every year for our anniversary. The table minimums have gotten way out of hand. We only gamble on Fremont St. It doesn't make sense to gamble on the strip anymore. We still love the strip for what it is. Still has some great food options, but we end up spending a lot of our money on Fremont.

I love Jacobs channel, but I only use Vegas for the airport and shuttle to Laughlin from there. Not only a cheaper vacation, but a beautiful location and much more relaxing. Vegas is just a big city, big city issues with hotel/casinos. Done with Vegas until they bring it back to a much more affordable destination.

We waited 3 1/2 hours in line at Flamingo’s F1 stands. If you aren’t in the stands you can’t see the cars go by since the street is down below grade. Gates open at 4:30 pm and race starts at 10:00 pm. First come first served seating. We were able to get in stands at 10th lap. The workers said they knew that there were 1000 more people than expected. The cars go by at 200+ MPH so there isn’t much to see from that location. Wouldn’t do that spot again. We had a great time at the NY NY. Taxis and Ubers can’t really get around race night. The rail system was very crowded but best plan.

Yea, can see gaming revenue on the strip dropping 4 months or more. The strip is just getting too expensive to visit for the lower budget gamblers. Strip is charging more for everything , parking, food, rooms. The old days, both mob and non mob ran casinos knew you'd make money by making the visit affordable, gaming is the main source of income, but now they want to make money for everything possible. Food comps down or gone, drink service reduced , room discounts don't matter because they make up the difference in resort fees, that don't even include parking at most strip locations. The budget gamblers will go where they are not racked across the coals for every penny possible.

The street from Virgin Hotel. Literally a block away from where the F1 track crosses Harmon. Serene Las Vegas. It was kind of like an older motel six as far as the room in the hotel were concerned. I paid $115 resort fee and there were zero “resort amenities“. The pool was closed, there was no hot tub. It was boarded over. How do we get around paying “resort fees “when they are such a huge rip off. They should not be allowed to advertise room prices exclusive of the resort fee if it is going to be mandatory charge! Next time, I’ll just stay in one of the Segal suites

You and others have talked about CircusCircus, the Strat and others as being sub par. Or words to that effect. Yet on another website comments over all stated they found the rooms clean and they liked the prices compared to the high end strip resorts. It's a no brainer, as prices increase on the strip fewer of the regular folk go there! I found all your info really informative. See you're more than just a pretty face. Brawn and brains. LOL!

Nice work Jacob. Thx. ‘No tax on tips’ might be a catchy phrase on the campaign trail…But it could create plenty of headaches, from figuring out tips on previously untipped services, to a loss of revenue that supports important things. There are better ways to help low income hard working people [if that is in fact the goal]: one is to simply raise the standard deduction for lower income folks. This way everyone benefits. Another side effect may be that tipping will be expected more so than ever. I believe that most are tired of being expected to tip,]. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how this goes. Cheers.
