Love this video! 1999 New Year’s Eve, I was playing drums at the Luxor. I pulled my then girlfriend of 10 yrs from the audience of approximately 5000 and proposed to her. We now have two kids, and I’ve retired from music. Still happy to have moved here. Although, I certainly miss the 90s in Vegas

Thanks for posting this. '99 was actually my favorite year in Vegas. It was a great mix of both new and old properties and about a decade before the strip began to look like an overpriced office park.

Me too.. I was kinda really pissed when I moved there because of having to be 21 for almost every damn thing compared to where I had been use to getting in at 18 where I moved from.. and I was almost 19.. stayed for about 5 years.. way too much fun.. only worked and played at night though forget that desert heat ..

@@of_the_how_or_why_of_me__t8685 What year was this when you moved there ? There are lots of things to do there even if your under age lol . House parties, hotel parties , raving , arcade, bowling , street racing , etc . The casinos if your 21 then yeah you go and gamble, or hit the bars 🍸 ,and clubs . But if you have the right connections..... i also agree with you on work all day and party all-night lol. The vegass heat is not bad i love it! Where do you live now , or you a Millennium or Gen Z ?

@@herokawasaki2904😊..i don't like hot or humid I like just right and snow .. I worked swing shift or nights.. I was lucky when I moved there that my friend had 'juice' so it wasn't so bad difficult for me to "get in" or suffer the who do you know in order to to do almost anything in Vegas . I had enough fun for a two or three people .. I wasn't into gambling , but I did want in those clubs though. At least I found acid I was so amazed that price that squired a whole sheet bc only 100 for 100 when before it was 10 for 1.. yes please.. I'm a young Gen X.. the mid90's I was out there.. found out under 21 you could get into strip clubs so I would go to them with my male friends and lots of concerts .. I liked being out in nature and I would do Red Rock , the Valley of Fire, Mt Charleston but the lack of trees and no rain just always freaked me out though , made me feel like super naked all the time ( yes super naked it's more naked than naked.). I heard that in the early 00's, it died down a lot compared to the 90's.. it was an experience that's for sure.

Very nostalgic. I hadn’t visited Vegas at that time (I was still a teenager) but seeing how simple things were. Before social media, before Smartphones, when “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” was a thing. Now it’s just influencers and tourist traps.

I went to Vegas all the time back in 1992. I could get a nice meal for $3.99, a beer for $0.25, and a room at the Tropicana cost a whopping $35.00. I went back in 1997 expecting around the same prices and received a very rude awakening... Still had a good time though.

Compare this to the 94 video on youtube and its almost unrecognizable. A lot of the concrete of what Vegas is today had started to settle by 99'. Mandalay Bay, Park, NYNY, the remodeled MGM Grand, Caesars, Venetian, Bellagio, they were all here. All that's missing is Wynn/Aria.

“The town will never be the same. After the Tangiers, the big corporations took it all over. Today it looks like Disneyland. And while the kids play cardboard pirates, Mommy and Daddy drop the house payments and Junior's college money on the poker slots. In the old days, dealers knew your name, what you drank, what you played. Today, it's like checking into an airport. And if you order room service, you're lucky if you get it by Thursday. Today, it's all gone. You get a whale show up with four million in a suitcase, and some 25 year old hotel school kid is gonna want his Social Security Number. After the Teamsters got knocked out of the box knocked out of the box, the corporations tore down practically every one of the old casinos. And where did the money come from... Junk Bonds”.
