It's a lovely game - for me personally there are some things I prefer in every Ys we've worked on (VIII, IX and X), and I think which one is your favourite really boils down to the gameplay and story aspects that appeal the most to you. Also, thanks for the praise for the PC port (even though you apparently were on 0.8.1 which still had a few issues ;)).

I ordered the Limited Edition for the Switch and am so excited to play this game. I really like the Ys series so far. I also finally finished my Replay of Trails to Azure yesterday. Just finished this a couple of days back and wow what an adventure Ys X is! Simply amazing! I've heard some complaints regarding the numerous cutscenes and changes to the battle systems, but I actually enjoyed these additions. It was such a joy to play and experience the journey from start to finish.

I am so glad took a chance on trying out Ys VIII 2 years ago, which I enjoyed began playing other Ys games I could get my hands on, and it finally got me to take chance on the Trails series as well(which I’m all caught up on, almost finished with Daybreak. Took me 2 years but I did it.) Cause this Ys looks dope as hell. That combat looks nuts. Falcom is truly a criminally underrated unappreciated, nearly unknown, Studio here in the West. Seriously, it should be a crime against humanity. They’re making such great and charming JRPGs. The attention to world building and characterization they put into their games is second to none.

I couldn’t agree more. I’m just now getting into this series. I’ve been playing RPGs since the original FF and dragon warrior way back on NES, but I’ve been sleeping on this studio. I bought Ys origins for 5 bucks a few weeks ago and was blown away. Going to play them all chronologically. I started Ys X last night, and this studio is indeed criminally underrated. I don’t know how these games flew under my radar for so long.

@ Oh, dude checks out the Trails games. They’re nuts. There’s 4 arcs each dealing with a party from different countries on a continent while crazy cloak and dagger stuff going on, tons of different moving parts going on. Each game continuing a single narrative through spanning 4 parties, 4 countries, all with different governing systems, all interconnected. The events of one arc will have an affect on the world, and the next arc you get see some of the fallout of those events but another country and party’s perspective. Culminating in all 4 parties joining together to take down a secret society that’s manipulating the countries. It’s seriously bonkers. There’s like 13 games total, all with insane attention to detail and world building, and NOT ONCE have they ever had retcon anything.

@ You should check out Falcom magnum opus-The Trails series. It’s easy one the best JRPG series I’ve ever played, while also having the most massive cohesive Narrative between 13 games, 4 Arcs with 4 different parties each having upwards of 10 party members, each arc has on average 3 games, with world building and characterization I’ve ever experienced in all of Media. A great comparison would be that it’s essentially Falcom’s own MCU. That’s how expansive the series is it’s nuts. Each arc building up to finally culminate into the parties from each arc joining forces to stop a secret society from using ancient divine relics the world’s goddess had gifted to humanity but ended up causing a near world ending collapse civilization. What’s just as crazy is that they’ve never had a contradiction or ever had to retcon a single thing at all in the whole series. I strongly recommend looking into the Trails series. It’s really good. If you do end up playing them, don’t listen to people saying you don’t need to play them in order or that you can skip and arc and be fine. All of them are connected. All of them reference events and characters from other arcs, it’s very necessary to play them in order if you want to get the very best experience out of the series.

I play all YS games , my first YS game YS 1&2 For the TG16 CD ROM and last one Mostrum NOX on STEAM. But my favorites are YS 1&2 from TG16 with the most stunning soundtrack and voices by the time and the unforgettable Lacrimosa of Dana. I still wait a little more for YS10 because i want a physical copy and here games take around one month later on stores. I remember a lot to Lacrimosa but i better don't see much about the gameplay until i finish the game. This kind of games are the reason that i still play video games. Thanks Nihon Falcom.

I just beat the game and really liked it. The Ys games, specially 8, 9, and now 10, really scratch an itch for me. Despite the fact that their graphics and presentation is not as high quality as some big-name JRPG's like the recent Final Fantasy games, I get far more consistent fun and enjoyment out of the Ys games than I did a game like FFVII: Rebirth. What I'm a bit upset by is that, when I beat the game, I didn't unlock any kind of extras like artwork or something. In Ys 8, if you beat it, you unlock extras that shows artwork of characters and even lets you look at the illustrations that were presented during the game, including the art in the end credits. I really liked this. I was disappointed when I beat Ys 9 and saw that they didn't include extras where you could look at its art. It looks like Ys 10 is the same as Ys 9 in that way. I don't know why Falcom won't give us a way to just look at the illustrations used during some story scenes in the game or in the end credits. Or did I just miss something in Ys 9 and 10?

Just 100% the game and I really did enjoy it. Massive fan of the YS series for over a decade now and I thought the direction the combat and gameplay took was a step in the right direction. Personally I thought the final chapter was the worst part. Mostly because I felt the tropes they ended up pulling on were kind of tired. Other than that phenomenal. Also Hugil is the best bird and character. Hopefully we see him again. Also you mentioned Dogi not recieving any love so I thought I would mention at Anime Expo during the year YS 8 came out Toshihiro Kondo was asked about that. If I remember he said something to effect of (and I'm paraphrasing this was several years ago): "Whenever Dogi is on the screen he sort of solves every problem for Adol. If Dogi was always around then there would be no problems left for Adol to solve." The thought being Dogi's normal role in the story doesn't fit the template for a playable character or really any kind of character that takes central stage. That said it would be super cool to have a duo story with Adol and Dogi! You know, Super YS Bros: Brothership or something.

Played IX after VIII "man I miss the exploration" Gone back to VIII after IX "man I miss the gameplay" Played Ys X "I can't go back to any Ys after this." Falcom really put the best of VIII and IX together imo. I immediately went back and restarted at a higher difficulty because I couldn't get enough and the ending really made me love the smaller cast of characters. I know Ys games don't really have much for Post-game content because I'm guessing the next game IS the post game content but I really wished there were a few extra hours of exploring and gameplay. Karja is great and Adol seemed like he was more of his own character rather than a stand in for the player. I'd certainly pay for a Karja game if it's a continuation of Ys X but that may as well be a wish. Thank you for your content, this channel is how I heard about the Ys and Trails series and I love both of them. Appreciate your work.

Now that has made me sufficiently hype. I've had my pre-order for the CE on PS5 since the pre-orders were made available in Europe, and I am so looking forward to playing it. As mentioned, no other JRPG has quiet the sense of adventure that Ys brings to the table. I'm even putting off Metaphor for a while, maybe for the inevitable Switch 2 port, as while I know I'll love it, it's not quite the right time for me to enjoy it as I'm absolutely craving that sense of adventure. It is my first Ys game and will feel special to me. I surprised myself loving it, though the naval combat is very lacking, the main combat is awesome. The fishing can be frustrating but can also feel fulfilling once you complete all the catches. The story may be cliché to some, but I had an amazing time. The grinding was especially good. I played it in hard, and then inferno. Hard told me to grind, inferno told me to parry and evade or pick up my teeth from the ground. To be completely honest, I want to take my time playing other instances of Ys, but I'm scared of the graphics differences that may put me very off. That and the fact that i've got tens of game to play. Some of which are from the past millennia.

Only downside in this game is the slow start in the ship exploration(could've use some more boost lol) but it only gets better as game the progress further on. But yeah, I love Ys X.

I just finished this game today. I can't say yet, if it's my RPG of 2024 since also "Unicorn Overlord" and "Eiyuden Chronicle" exist I yet have to finish, but I can say that it was a great game. The new features of having the freedom for exploring islands and the ship battles were, even if not all of them very executed at its best. Like the controls of the board were really wonky, and same goes for the ship when it had no handling and speed stat. The battle system was not exactly the kind of I am used to since I loved moving towards the side instead of guarding like it is in this game. If the player guards or simply stays motioned, it is almost impossible to lose. So this game is fairly easy, a great entry for newcomers for sure. The soundtrack is definitely not as epic as like in VIII because Unisuga is missed, but still great overall. The only issue I had, it ran poorly on Switch. It started to lag heavily, if multiple enemies are fought at the same time. Was also an issue during the final boss fight. Technicalwise it was beatiful, but overrestimated this device. Definitely expect to run it better on PS4 and PC. Overall it became the longest Ys title for me with nearly 50 h, and I never felt bored which is definitely a good thing. I can absolutely recommend this game!

i really loved the demo of this game, as a newer fan of the series who just finished ys8 and working through 9, ive been waiting for 10 for a few months, and it runs great on switch which is a plus, unlike 9 which struggles, i heard nis/falcom made a new engine for this one

currently playing metaphor, i give it a pause just to play this game, sweet jesus this game have so satisfying battle and good.. game literally can kill you if you mess up unlike any games other than soulslike. like every ys game i tried, all of them challenging, metaphor might be my jrpg of 2024, but this game is my arpg in 2024..

Been playing the demo and it has been incredible!!!! It did take a bit to pop off but holy smokes this feels like the first ys game That emphasized and required intention instead of mashing, it really reminds me of sekiro and I'm all for it
