It's a lovely game - for me personally there are some things I prefer in every Ys we've worked on (VIII, IX and X), and I think which one is your favourite really boils down to the gameplay and story aspects that appeal the most to you. Also, thanks for the praise for the PC port (even though you apparently were on 0.8.1 which still had a few issues ;)).

I tried Ys 8 last year and I’m not sure why but everything from the setting, level design, and difficulty (found it too easy) didn’t grab me and frustrated me at times BUT this video sold me on 10. At this juncture I’m going back and forth in my mind between Infinite Wealth and Daybreak being my GOTY but between Metaphor and potentially Ys X that may change. Thanks for the vid as always TKN

Ngl, played through this game through in Japanese upon release there, and probably a mistake because I didn't like it as much as Ys games released before it (which I'm willing to bet on me not understanding squat). Will be giving it another shot in English though and hopefully I like it more. I agree though, Ys is one of, if not one of the best RPG series ever made. Second favourite game franchise in general actually.

That's most likely because of the CLE port which was so bad it was removed from the store. Durante and PH3 who work on the Western PC ports are eons better.

Now that has made me sufficiently hype. I've had my pre-order for the CE on PS5 since the pre-orders were made available in Europe, and I am so looking forward to playing it. As mentioned, no other JRPG has quiet the sense of adventure that Ys brings to the table. I'm even putting off Metaphor for a while, maybe for the inevitable Switch 2 port, as while I know I'll love it, it's not quite the right time for me to enjoy it as I'm absolutely craving that sense of adventure. So come on Ys!

how much I loved Ys X? Well...my plans for next year convention was a legend of heroes cosplay, probably Wazy. But Ys X Turned me around and I want to re-do Adol Christin in this most modern iteration! I know some people dislike his look in that one after the absolute edge of Crimson King in Ys IX but I love the more adventure at sea and relaxed look of Adol in Ys X. It's my favorite look for Adol so far as much of an unpopular opinion that might be. Gonna have probably so much better reference screenshots and recordings from PC than on Switch to check the intricate details. On other notes, I absolutely LOVED the visuals and animations in this one. It's a massive step forward for Falcom like Daybreak was to Legend of Heroes, but I think I prefer the look of Ys X. On the other hand, the ship gameplay felt absolutely atrocious when first introduced. It improved over time but I feel it should have had a higher base speed at the beginning and better turning, like a higher floor but the same ceiling. Also, while visuals on the islands are amazing, the visuals during sailing are very lackluster when compared.
