This is my new favourite guitar channel. Great job. Just a note for those out there that India Ink is just acrylic ink so you can substitute any Acrylic Ink for it. I use Meeden Inks. They come as Drawing Inks or Acrylic Inks. Either will work. If you want to experiment you could also try Alcohol Inks, Calligraphy Ink or even Tattoo Ink. Alcohol markers and Soft Pastels would work as well.

Nice work! I love and hate your channel - the hate because its one of those channels that make that voice in my head say, "yeah you should buy a laser cutter and do things like this!". I have enough half finished projects, so I'll just keep watching you do your awesome work ... and tell that voice to shush. :)

Dürer is my favorite artist. I have two lithographs of his diptych "The Four Apostles" (1526) made in 1891 at the museum in Germany they're displayed at that I'm having framed. This build just blows my mind. I need to find someone locally that can laser engrave wood like that, I've started building guitars from parts as a hobby and I'd love to do something like this.

4:12 Cat! On a more serious note, you have some of the most original and creative guitar building ideas I've seen lately. Bright colors on this particular Durer's work makes it less terrifying, which I'd say is a good thing 😁😁 Also, great playing (as usual).

Hi, Thanks. No, no clear coat. The India ink stated that it was waterproof. I figured that was good enough for the video and demo.

Gustav Dore's work would look sick with this technique- The Empyrean with the circles of angels radiating from between the pickups or some of his illustrations of London in particular would look awesome on guitars I bet

Not too shabby... 😊
@EdAllen4 ай бұрын
A matte acrylic varnish over the surface might have helped the ink not bead up the way it did, though you did make interesting use of that behavior. Probably mixing in some acrylic medium into the ink too. Try that on some test material that has been treated with that white stain before you try going for the more watercolor wash style on an actual guitar.

Hey Mark thanks again for this awesome video. 2 questions. Do you have a video where you share more info on the Color Engraver you use and the how's and why's about it. Also importantly where do you get the what I assume transparent vectors of your guitar bodies. Thanks. B~
@michaelfrancis12 ай бұрын
Amazing results! Did you seal it? PS It’s great to hear a builder who can play more than a couple chords 😁
@paulbrennan9433 ай бұрын
Great job! I've seen this idea with laser before and the stain sometimes bleeds quite badly - is that why you did the initial coat of stain? Also India Ink - that's a water resistant ink I think, maybe it bonds to the stain but doesn't bleed through it?

Intrigued. As soon as the video kicked off I thought um I'm getting one of those...the printer not a Fesley. I'm commenting because my 1st question was- I wonder what software I can use... Saw you open Affinity Designer and was like Hell yeah! I been using Affinity since like version 1.0 to design tshirts.. Now I gotta figure out how to afford a new toy so I can make some awesome custom guitars. I've built, well actually assembled several kits and this is so cool. Right now I'm just starting a GKW kramer 84 style kit like VH's famous Baretta and managed to snag one before they switched the kit to the claw version of the headstock...

@MarkGutierrez: First, GREAT vid and work! After the engraving and coloring, did you apply a sealer or a clear topcoat or is the engraved wood left exposed?
@MarkGutierrez3 ай бұрын
Hi, I didn't apply a sealer or topcoat. The engraved wood is exposed. The original top was already sealed and the India ink I used are waterproof.

Any tips on how you were able to frame or make the image fit the shape of the guitar? Did you put it on the bed and use a camera and trace? Then set an offset for the outside? Nice work
@MarkGutierrez4 ай бұрын
I have a CAD model of a Les Paul. I then export the outline of the body as a .DXF. I import the DXF into Affinity Designer to make a mask. I then resize and move the engraving to fit inside the contour of the body. Once it's done I export the image from Affinity Designer and drop it into Lightburn to trace and convert into vector lines. In light burn, I have a center line so I know where the center is. I mark the center line on the physical body. Then align everything on the laser bed. Lots of steps, I know.
