incredible! got a question though if I may: I've got what amounts to a Laser 2 hull (in good shape) but manufactured for a different rig (it has a free-standing mast that sits in a well far forward of the Laser 2's deck stepped mast). ANYWAY.... I have a chance to buy a proper laser 2 rig and sails (it's more powerful than mine) and set up my hull to manage it. Finding and affixing all the deck hardware won't be an issue. But what I"m wondering is.... the mast plate. Is there any support/reinforcement underneath the deck where the mast gets stepped on that plate? Something to help transfer/spread the load straight down to the bottom of the hull beneath? Or...is it's proximity to (being on the forward edge) that little "v" shape at the forward, vertical edge of the cockpit support enough? Any thoughts, experience, warnings appreciated. And no worries if all this stuff is old news to you and you've moved on to greener pastures. Thanks! :) (I just re-watched your video. At minute 1:02...is that a vertical post that I then see you inserting through your cut-out to fix beneath the mast step plate and down to the hull to address this very concern???)

Hi!! Yes your right there is a piece going from the deck down to the bottom of the hull to transfer the weight. It was in the original build so that is why I put it back there. My biggest learning (other than don't do it unless the restoring is part of the hobby) was not adding small holes and the lowest point of the ribs on the hull to allow water to drain back if it gets in side. Its very hard to change now and also hard to drain.

Wow. Big, big job. I envy your ability to pull it off....and respect your conclusion that “uh....not so sure it was worth it!” I’ll call that a public service, and figure that I owe you a few beers 😁. (I’d have spent more money, more time, and achieved far worse results). Cheers and thanks, gentleman!

Odd Erik
