"Laser-Induced Graphene and Flash Graphene"
Abstract: This lecture discusses the synthesis of graphene atop films and in bulk via new development routes, in addition with discussion of display of devices and items made from these graphene.
This lecture was given virtually via Zoom by James M. Tour, T.T. and W.F. Chao Professor of Chemistry at Rice University on 11 March, 2021.
Opening remarks and moderation done by Murtaza Ali Khan, Vice-President of GSA-Q 2020-21

Dear Dr. Tour, I've been buliding laser's , laser cutting, drilling, engraving, Hologaphic, reaserch in material photon chemestry, and enegery capacator laser discharge banks since the '1960s. My good friend Steve Anderson, physics department at Sonoma State, and I were talking about graphine and carbon nanotube production in the '90s, using lasers, we never did anything with it. After seeing this video, and while watching it, I designed in my head a raster scanning idea, based on my many decades of Laser Light show events. I own a GSI EYE system, made in the '1980s. (Bought out by Lumonics of Canada), That serves me well, as well I have, ND yag, Ion, Co2, high power 440, 445, nm laser diodes. I have a nich in mind. Im excited by you're work. And this is right up my alley... I will get in touch with MaterialMatters. I am: Dale Robertson, College Of Marin student. Exciting.

This innovation is just epic almost equivalent to what Jack Kilby followed by Robert Noyce did after the transistor was invented which allowed the accelerated and even exponential advancement of integrated circuit followed by PC revalution

Just curious to know? Does anyone remember when Lightscribe cd burners came out there were people making flash capacitors out of Kapton tape on those decades ago! I still have quiet a few of the patterns for applicative circuits that you can print in cd format. Layering for more complex electronics opens up a world of surface mount applications. One guy was using fifteen layers and three metal foils and screen etching all using a Lightscribe and etching acid on the foils which he used the light scribe to prep for etching as well was making flexible surface mount electronic circuits. And this was back in the day of adsl and light scribes. Well maybe post adsl but you get the picture :).

Thank you Dr Tour for your inspiration, insight and wisdom. And Big Cheers to ⚡DUY LUONG⚡ Awesome Stuff This will revolutionise the future world ! And your strategy around IP is quite masterfull, ensuring the best possible outcome for across many industries, and for the spread and uptake of the processes and technology. You and the team truly deserve complements. Wonderful for Humanity

One thing I never found that total amps input in flash graphene ... I found nowhere even in his own lecture 🤔... We all know the voltage but Anybody know how much amps he put in the test

Is it patented, can we use this technology to startup a company? What is the process to start with it?

Yes it’s patented he said you need to license with his company.

Graphene itself is not patented, or patentable. His process to grow it is. Good news there are other methods that can be used if you cant get them to work with you. Also it is far less expensive and its dirt cheap to make yourself especially if you’re a small business they probably already out price your foot in the door. Everyone else is using flash joule in their basements and over seas in China where they don’t care about patents. They sell Graphene Oxide on Aliexpress for $100 per 50 grams. Depending on your need or it must be taken a step further if you need its other properties.

I'm really excited for the use of flash graphene to upcycle plastic. Have you thought about working working with #theoceancleanup I hope the Canadian / U.S. governments can work with UMI / UML to build factories that process all our plastics.

Kinda late jumping in here. I was wandering if there was a process yet for taking the high quality graphine from flash graphene and connecting them together for larger graphene lattices?

Well doesn’t it attract to itself and to other graphene atoms within the structure that its combines with? Seems to me it works very well not even as a sheet but simply as an additive to other materials.

where can i build; or to look for the sensors used to collect all this data? Spectroscope? everything? Building this working prototype in my own home from proof of concept with some new upgrades for mass production. Any help from anyone will be highly appreciated!

They've been working for 2 years to scale it up in a lab it's bullshit, it should be easy to scale plasma in a vacuum chamber. Didn't Tesla create that about 100 years ago? Greedy assholes.

I enjoyed the information but, I wish Dr Tour was not promoting how much he is making from the technology of graphene but instead how can this God! given product can help humanity to improve lives and save our planet. With respect though, How much money is enough for you Dr Tour!? 14 companies not enough yet? Our planet is in need of love and care and not greed! For God sakes.

Let's not be generous with somebody else's labor and innovation. Let's limit our generosity to whatever is in our domain or it mutates into envy and bitterness.

He didn't invent any of i, he had a foreign student that did. They've been working for 2 years to scale flash graphene in the lab it's bullshit, it should be easy to scale plasma in a vacuum chamber. Didn't Tesla create that about 100 years ago? He doesn't want to develop the technology he wants to suppress it.

Why is this taking so damn long, can't you modify a arc flash furnace there's got to be some sitting empty in shuttered steel mills? It really wouldn't matter if you made Graphene or charcoal, we are talking about eliminating plastics from polluting the ocean! And reducing landfills to basically nothing! How many lives how would that save? Plus you get the hydrogen and a bit of ozone out of it.

Or maybe, just maybe, it's not about saving the oceans, lives, money or reducing carbon footprints cheaply at all?

So whoopee doo. When you die your soul passes thru the graphine leaving your body and wealth behind. But only the blood Jesus paid will filter your sins out also so they won't carry you to judgement.
