Great to hear I hoped that my trials and learning might help some people. For anyone who does not already have one they are now offering the same design with the correct motor ready to go on the bigger 24v machines now link is listed in description.

@@ChadsCustomCreations I've got a self build version with a nema 17 motor already at home and I am very sure I would've gone through the same errors you did, if it wasn't for me to learn from you.

I believe after watching this video you may have explained why my chuck rotary that came with my 6090cnc was running hot when I tried it on my laser cutter. Thanks, Have a great weekend,
@ChadsCustomCreations4 жыл бұрын
Thats great to hear, I bet there are other work arounds also like maybe an inline transformer or something if you didn't want to change out the motor.
@donaldwalls85684 жыл бұрын
@@ChadsCustomCreations yes I will have to check the specs on my CNC and compare to my laser and see if there is a workaround, it would be nice to be able to use the same rotary for both tools.

@@ChadsCustomCreations thanks, but I already have mine and had already considered the nema17 being too small (actually it’s the tuning for the larger motor that simply allows too much current to flow, thus heating it up too much) Just trying to source some silicone rings for the glasses to sit on, and then tweak the settings to get it looking right.
@ChadsCustomCreations3 жыл бұрын
@@lithgowlights859 perfect, than you and I were definitely in the same situation. I've heard of people putting large o-rings around the metal to get better grip also.

Something I found out by accident is if you rotate your rotary 180 it will now print in the correct orientation without mirroring. You could have skipped rewiring by putting the motor end on the left.
@ChadsCustomCreations Жыл бұрын
Oh wow you are totally right, I can’t remember if I had enough slack in the wires to accomplish this though with the placement of the plug. Great point though thanks.
@jpsignsandbanners35393 жыл бұрын
can you show me how you do the plug and unplug system for te rotary
@ChadsCustomCreations3 жыл бұрын
Yes 1. be sure the machine is off 2. Turn the little ring on the plug counter clockwise you will feel it come loose. 3. Pull up and that will unplug it. 4. To pug in the new one make sure the prongs are lined up 5. Press down 6. Turn clockwise to tighten 7. Turn machine back on

Hey bud, I am just about to purchase this laser cutter but was tossing up on this or spending big bucks on a Glowforge, the only reason I wouldn't buy this is the learning curve. What programme are you using to send the print to the machine, is it CoralDraw? Also, have you tried to engrave on glass using your new rotary setup cause glass cup engraving is something I would love to get in to. Many thanks.
@ChadsCustomCreations3 жыл бұрын
I personally would not recommend going with the glowforge just based on what some of my friends who have it have told me. Despite how attractive their commercials make it look. I use a program called lightburn they have a free trial you can try it out, it's very powerful. Engraving on glass is pretty easy you just have to mask it off first with tape or paint first so that the laser beam has something to absorb into.

@@ChadsCustomCreations Thanks for your prompt reply, I've decided to go with this machine, the price is just to good. You need to get more content up mate it's the only channel I found to actually explain how to use the dam machine lol. Thanks again.

Couldnt you have just changed the current settings on the dip switches on the Y driver to match the stepper motor?
@ChadsCustomCreations3 жыл бұрын
This I am not sure of. Fir me I had already burned up the original motor so for me us I no the same voltage motor made sense at the time. Wonder if they make inline transformers also that you could easily install aswell.
@jetrenkel3 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul. I just dealt with this exact problem. The nema 23 thats stock on the laser runs at about 2.47 amps. I swapped in a nema 17 (same as his initial test here) for my rotary engraver and I adjusted the dip switches to bring the current down to 0.71 amps. Its been working great ever since! Hope this helps.
@ChadsCustomCreations3 жыл бұрын
That's great to hear, only downside I see here is if you are sharing the Y axis driver you would maybe need to switch it back everytime you go back and forth.

What software are you running, I have an 80W (Red and Black) with RDWorksV8? The rotary option in the output menu is greyed out. When I connect the rotary tool will it pick it up.
@ChadsCustomCreations2 жыл бұрын
I am using lightburn
@ChadsCustomCreations2 жыл бұрын
Not sure why it's grayed out for you but I don't think connecting it will Un gray that as I unplug my y axis stepper and plug into that port don't think the software can tell the difference. I would look into the options and settings there maybe something in there disabling it.
