Welcome to Laserdisc theater, where a man with a horrible English accent shows you the beauty and grandeur of the Pioneer LD-838D Laserdisc player and a 2003 Sharp LCD TV. Also featured is Blue Planet, an IMAX laserdisc.

There are a few LaserDisc-related experiments I would like to see done, but can’t do myself because I lack the resources. Here are a few: - What happens if you spin a LaserDisc the wrong way while you try to read it? - Can you read a LaserDisc using a blue laser? - Can you use a CD Lens Cleaner to improve the playback quality of LaserDiscs?

I actually had this model for years, found it thrown out in a school dumpster and it worked when I got it home and put a disc in!

I have that exact television I bought in 2003 It still performs like it did when new and still looks brand new except the Sharp letters in the front slowly started coming off one by one. It wasn't cheap...close to $500 but I loved the design and had to buy it. Purchased it at Circuit City.

10:02 I've seen power connectors of similar design. they were part of all-rail power bricks. (as opposed to the more common main-rail (EG: 24) power bricks that require that the device generates the sub-rails (+12,+5,+3.3,-3.3) from said main-rail)

The special disc could be the disc used in VR simulators, there were special videodiscs that contained approx. 5 minutes of video and audio of things like the cockpit of a rally car, a roller coaster, or a spaceship travelling in space, and digital data, this information was processed by a PC that drove a system of hydraulic pistons that moved and shook the cabin in which viewers were seating in sync with the show ;-D

@databits 6 жыл бұрын
Good guess! Although that isn't it. It's even more special, but I haven't yet devised a plan to make a video about this disc.

AFAIK that was a very low end laserdisc player. It has no features at all, plays only NTSC and only the Laserdisc format. As opposed to other machines it doesn't even have a clamp holding the disc from above. Relying only on that anti slip mat on the spindle for 1,800rpm shows this. The video out only was normal because there is only composition video on the disc. Comb filters to well separate Y and C were in the TVs before S-Video as plug came with the arrival of S-VHS. The high end models from Pioneer had a very good quality comb filter then - better than the one of most TVs. I had the luxury Model CLD-2950 plus AC3 via RF demodulator via hardware mod.

haha, i've met people who talk like this. they tend to have offices in hundreds-year-old stone gothic buildings in oxford or cambridge or sometimes london. their desk is wood and their chair is musty leather. every wall is completely covered in leatherbound books.

The accent didn’t really bug me much, I’m saying that as a guy from Somerset UK where most of us sound like a bland mix of Bristolian and Cornish… The thing that bothers me about the vid is that there was supposed to be something special about the player, and apart from the daft idea of it not being able to play five inch discs, I can’t see why it’s special. I wonder if the player came with a five inch to eight adaptor like how three inch discs sometimes came with five inch ones? It’s probably unlikely due to the spinal diameter…
@martinbrewer7629
@martinbrewer7629 6 жыл бұрын
The thing is, CDV was a multisized format... maybe to the point of it not really being a format... This is why this machine is kinda confusing... Other machines could handle all disc sizes...

At first I was going to give the video a thumbs down not only for the accent but the obvious silliness of demonstrating it can’t play CD’s and LP’s. However, after enduring the full 19 min and 36 sec, I came away laughing and enjoying it after all.
