What would be cool, is splitting a large up into smaller tiles and then actually tiling with them. You'd probably need to coat them in sort of sealant, but you could make a pretty sick custom tile job!

How does the permanent marker hold to rough weather? I wanted to make apartment or address numbers and paint them. I wasn't sure how it would handle rain and sun.
@Geeksmithing
@Geeksmithing 2 жыл бұрын
That's a great question that I unfortunately do not have the answer to. I would think if you sprayed the final marketed area with a clear acrylic spray, it would help against the weather, but I wouldn't be surprised if it faded due to harsh sun UV. Great question though! If instead of marker, you used a paint made for outdoors, it may fair better. You could mask off the tile first with tape before lasering to make a nice paint mask. Just some ideas. Hope they help!

Did you try masking with painter's tape?
@Geeksmithing
@Geeksmithing 3 жыл бұрын
I did some variants like that when I was experimenting, then painting in the lasered out areas, and removed the tape... And it worked nice, but some of my more intricate items needed so much weeding, that it ended up not being much of a time savings in the end. But I could see how it would be a nice alternative technique.

Have you tried alcohol ink instead of marker? I'm getting some photo quality gradients with very little and easy cleanup. Mask with painter's tape, raster at 200 mm/s at about 3/4 cutting power (which is about 1/2 full power on my K40), drop a few drops of ink spread around and then let it seep around. Then use mineral spirits to get rid of the tape slime. Maybe a quick wipe of alcohol. Ok I guess it wasn't as little/easy as I thought, but it looks amazing!

Is your laser a diode or CO2 laser, or does it matter. I have heard that you have to paint the glass or ceramic tiles for a good etching. Love the video.. thanks
@Geeksmithing
@Geeksmithing 2 жыл бұрын
The laser in this video is a CO2, but there is a very popular tile engraving process that uses diode lasers called the Norton method. You can get some different effects than I am showing here but yeah, it involves painting the tile first. There are bunches of videos on it. Good luck!!

I just realized them in inkscape. Sometimes it's advantageous to convert the image to a vector so that it is infinitely scalable, and you won't lose the detail. But converting it to a vector is a video worth of content in it's own right of you have never done it.
