I did this but masked first, then back filled with black spray paint and it looks super good! Almost a printed on look but slightly shiny or sparkly. Used my laser master 3. Did the same with my Mira 9 100w co2 and with a few gentle passes, it will remove the entire color layer and allow for different colors to back fill. Thanks a million for this video!

Awesome work, This idea came to me while I was sleeping and I’m glad I found your video to confirm it’s a doable project. I just came into the laser engraving world so this might be a tough project for me right now but at least now I now that it is something that can be done. Thanks for you videos.

i got the 20W with 5W head longer ray5, hoping to get a side hustle going this year with it, and maybe have it pay for itself and a few 3D printers ( want a resin and a FBA printer) and just kind of expand nice and slow. ( supposedly the 20W can engrave ceramics, so was thinking of using it for some custom designs laser tile for the bathroom remodel too)
@rogersshop
@rogersshop Жыл бұрын
Yes, it will engrave ceramic, but unless you have a titanium dioxide coating on it first (white paint), you won't see much, other than a line in the glazing.

Does it actually etch the glass or does it just burn through the white coating? Have you tried a photograph?
@rogersshop

It does not etch the glass. Although I did do a video on laser engraving from the back, which worked well. A photo would give the same results. Just make sure to mirror it when printing.

Interesting idea. But, since the laser burns the coating into the glass as black, I don't know if a color would show through unless a way was found to remove the black first. Might be worth experiment ing with, though.

@rogersshop

The grid shown on this laser is actually one made for the Ortur Laser Master and is available on Thinigiverse since the workable area is the same. I've also made custom sizes in CAD for other lasers, such as the Zbaitu M81, which has an extended work area. Can also be created in Lightburn if you are patient and take your time.

How do you get your laser to start in the same place every time and stop at the same place? I also have the Longer RAY-5 every time I do a project my laser starts in different spots no matter if i am making multilabel coasters or just one thing I have to reframe to make sure i know where the laser is going to start. I can not do a nice wood burn grid on my wood cuz my laser has a mind of its own. Oh I am new to lasers. Thank you for your help !!
@rogersshop
@rogersshop 2 жыл бұрын
I almost always start from center on my projects. Once you have your starting point set, then "set origin" after selecting "current position", if using Lightburn before starting the project. When complete, the laser will return to that spot. You can also use "User Origin", just be sure to "set origin" before starting.

What is your primary "ended use"? I have 9 different brands of lasers, which each having a designated use. Also, what is your budget? The saying, "You Get What You Pay For", pretty much holds true on these diode lasers.

@@rogersshop I probably will use it for glass tiles because I thought what you did was cool and wood projects. And if I don't mount it to a spoil board couldn't I set it on top of a end table or night stand and engrave right on it?
@rogersshop
@rogersshop 2 жыл бұрын
@@chriskaras6817 Sure. But, having it mounted to a board with layout grid is really handy for repetitive projects. engraving a t low speeds would not be an issue, but if you get into the 3,000 mm per minute range, the laser frame will "walk" if not fastened down. Not just this brand, but most.

Roger how long does it take to burn the spoil board? What settings do you use? I made a spoil board but it will take 10 hours to burn. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
@rogersshop
@rogersshop 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the laser, finished size, and the number of special items I add to it. Example is the Longer Ray 5 spoil board I did recently. At 410mm square with numbers and some extra patterns took about 2 hours. For settings, it depends on the laser power and material. For MDF, I usually use multiple passes as a lower power to avoid scorching. 3,000 mm per minute at 60% power would be a starting point, but you should do a test engrave first to try it out and adjust as needed. This would be for a 5 watt laser.

@@danyodice1048 here is a free download from Thingiverse www.thingiverse.com/thing:5098673 I used this grid pattern on my xTool since it was easier than making my own. engrave time is less than an hour. I have made custom grids in Lightburn for other lasers when needed, but this was easier, and I tend to be somewhat lazy on certain things!

I need to engrave liquor bottles for my clients. So the machine is not going to be for income but to provide something that I want to give my clients so I don’t want to spend more than $1000. However I’m not sure which machine to buy that I can engrave liquor bottles like Black Label and keychains and wine glasses.
@rogersshop
@rogersshop 2 жыл бұрын
Glass will need to be coated before engraving. A 10 watt output laser is best, but a 5 watt also works, just takes longer. To engrave more than one line on a bottle, you will need a rotary attachment to keep everything in focus. A popular coating is cold galvanizing compound. I'll do a video on this some day.
