Those 5k'ish fiber laser that need extraction and water/cooling systems. CO2 can 'mark' if you use something like Cermark over the metal before engraving or Moly Lubricant. There are vids you can see how people get by without using fiber lasers.

Very cool. At $300-400 USD this is much better than solutions like the Glowforge. Also it looks like you might be able to attach the head to a 3D printer and etch using that.

You are a salute to geeks... most people would buy some steel wool and scrub away the rust. Entry-level geek would probably use some kind of de-rusting compound and use chemistry to remove the rust. level two geeks maybe electrolysis... super Saiyan geeks....WE USE LASERS!
@winstonsmith4784 жыл бұрын
Depending upon its resolution limit and accuracy, it could be useful for PCB resist removal. They should come up with a coating that is etchant resistant, but which can be burned away by the laser. I've read elsewhere about black lacquer paint being used with other lasers. PCB positioning stops would allow two-sided PCBs to be made.

That’s a cool laser etching device. But for rust removal I would use a product like Evaporust. I have used it on tools with excellent results and it’s safe to use. After rust removal you need to protect the metal with an oil or paint so it doesn’t rust again.

@@tonyjarnigan9714 I suspect you're wrong. Perhaps with overnight soaking but I've tried with vinegar and lemon juice with mediocre results.
@CMDRSloma4 жыл бұрын
@@davocc2405 Interesting nevertheless but it's far easier and more thorough it will be with chemicals because those will go into crevices and where a laser.
@davocc24054 жыл бұрын
@@CMDRSloma I've seen the laser go quite deep - of course not as much as a chemical bath (often on the inside, etc) but the laser is very fast indeed, I am quite fascinated by it as I was trying to convince a friend of mine to look at it commercially. The other factors of course are how many items you can do with a batch of materials, side-effects (fumes, disposal, reflected laser light, etc.). The laser is indeed very expensive at that scale but I think at some point we'll probably arrive at a mixture of the two; laser for most of the visible parts and chemicals for the harder to reach parts (presuming a batch being done).

So if u want a bigger space. Buy a few more of these. Now where can I find one. Amazon need to just sell the magnetic safety shield. Would be alot easier to find on Amazon.
@billm16514 жыл бұрын
No glasses is super sketchy. If you are going to do tech reviews on lasers you should practice basic safety practices. While its not very powerful, its strong enough to do permanent eye damage with a stray refraction. Especially on a piece of metal. Why not set up the shield to create a partial wall instead of surrounding it? That way you can protect yourself and not restrict the size of the piece you work on. I appreciate you reviewing it though.

There are much better and cheaper methods for cleaning tools, you could simply get a sand blaster tool and use a wire brush on a bench grinder, they come up like brand new, or you could use chemical cleaning, or you could use a wire brush on a drill many different methods that are much cheaper and just as good if not better than using an expensive laser made for etching, that's just a waste of a good machine.
