There was that volunteer in like the first 24 hours who was buying Starlink units from "every Home Depot in the area" and setting them up on his own credit card. He tweeted at Elon about what he was doing and asked if Elon could make them free for the first couple of weeks. Elon responded right away and said that he would make them free subscriptions for 90 days and that he would send a team to donate a bunch of units. As far as I'm aware, that was the only guy who payed for them, and only because he was so early in the disaster that hardly anyone in the country even knew it was happening, including Elon, apparently. So good on that dude for making everyone aware, and good on Elon for responding so quickly.

The NC National Guard Helicopters were deployed day one. We have done that every hurricane in my 30 year service and it wouldn’t be any different in this one. We live in these communities, we help these communities and do rescues throughout the year with our HART teams, so why would we sit here now? They were staged very close In Salisbury and had 10 states of National Guard helos ready to depart as soon as the storm passed. As someone from WNC, we are so grateful for all the civilian helos and it certainly took a team, but the National Guard was there. They did over 500 rescues into this first few days. They were not in Hickory or any of those airports you mentioned. They were refueling in Asheville and then pushed out to forward staging bases. You are not going to see them in Hickory. We have more than 14 Blackhawks in Salisbury every day of the year and train in that area frequently and so they would jump to help our citizens. They did not sit an hour away in Salisbury for three days. Those Chinooks you saw plus the Blackhawks and Lakotas were NG. I am not saying FEMA was there or active military at first, but NC National Guard was there from day one on site and still there along with now 18 states to include the active Army. In addition, I was on the ground 3 days later at my sisters place in Hendersonville and Aunts house near Bat Cave and they were flying over every few minutes Thanks again for helping though and using your resources. WNC appreciates it!
@VikingShelters2 ай бұрын
Not entirely true and Blackhawks cannot fly into smaller spaces. You need a massive landing zone for a Chinook or blackhawk.... these smaller helicopters, could go where people needed them the most. These are dozens if not more counties, completely gone. There should be 1000s of helicopters, 80k military and massive equipment to rebuild the roads. None of that is happening because Trump isn't President...... vote. Btw they need to bring in 100s of smaller helicopters. Most people will not have a road for months, if not years...

TY but knowing that this was inevitable all resources should’ve been deployed BEFOREHAND not after ! I have a Degree in Emergency Management and do Disaster Response and Recovery and have led teams throughout the USA and watching a Geologist (The “GeoModels” channel) who uploaded a 25 min vid an hour ago who explains how we knew this could occur ! Our Leaders, Government etc. Shouid use our tax dollars to mitigate this with runoffs etc. AND flood insurance knowing this from the past should be made retroactive since homeowners were told that they didn’t need it. Our 5, 10, 15, 20 year plans should’ve used engineers and plans to prepare for this knowing it wouud eventually happen and also knowing land was being sold, developed and people lived there! USGS have also uploaded vids about the dynamics behind why this happened but it was known this was going to occur even before phone alerts were sent out the NEXT day! This was a machination imo to take peoples land after the infrastructure was damaged. Homeowners already reporting “imminent domain” by the government (for those not familiar there when the government by law enacted can buy your land or home for reasons such as building a highway where you own property etc. ) This Geologist explains that it wasn’t from rainfall in certain areas which is very interesting !! So runoffs and various engineering to mitigate this could have been implemented but never was !!! The stories left out of the news such as the 10,000 body bags ordered, Waynesville, NC just south of Asheville had to get some due to the hospital morgue being FULL (Haywood Regional Medical Center family member who is a Physician told me today! The man trapped in mud and debris up to his neck not wanting to me rescued although rescue workers said we’d help locate his family. He said no you can’t because they’re below me and stopped scratching my leg 3 days ago!! The caskets forcefully tossed and splinters aginat debris in the raging waters from local cemetery’s, the workers getting sick from the oil, gas, fecal matter, asbestos in the air m, the people frantically waving and being passed over by helicopter after helicopter until individual independent pilots started exponentially coming in bringing resources and doing search and rescue whike the Army Corp of Engineers shoveled mud out of a Fusge shoppe? WTF? TY for ur service but no one was seen for 4 days (some areas 13 days!!!!) or more and FEMA was hiding out at their base command center and firefighters there threatening to arrest helicopter pilots not allowing them to go back to get spouse leaving them there!! )interview on “Queen City News” out of Charlotte NC) also check out “Gentry & Sons Trucking” channel here you will find truths unlike the news channels and affiliates show! @gbiffle @Gentryandsons @davidwilcock333 @elenadanaan @MichaelSalla @DrStevenGreer55 @JPjpJP1 @MikeTheFitFarmer @TheBergamot @theaeroponictowerchannel @Brifromscratch @MarkHuneycutt @theJustinRhodesShow

I remember when Hugo came in September of 89 and sat over the gorge and parts of the mountain slid off into Broad River and into Lake Lure. This latest event makes the 89 event look so small. It rearranged the river slightly but nothing like it is now. I was 27 when Hugo rolled through and saw Lake Lure's recovery. Today, I won't live to see its recovery. I doubt it will ever be. Greg along with everyone else, thank you, amazing job you guys have done. I have a small grading company outside of Hickory, we don’t really have the resources to move our equipment from existing jobs currently. But I would be glad to donate my time to help run equipment or move supplies and smaller equipment. I have trucks, 10 ton trailers etc. if we can be of help please let me know.
