Jim Hughson is arguably the worst commentator in sports. I can't stand him and the fact that I have to listen to him during Leafs broadcasts drives me insane. Next to Bob and Harry, Joe Bowen was the best. I miss listening to him and I'm sure the rest of Leafs Nation does, too.

Cliff Fletcher is one of the finest gentlemen you could ever wish to meet. A complete class act, and a brilliant hockey mind. His '93 Leafs would have won that cup but for the criminal incompetence of Kerry Fraser. Fletcher was in on other Cups with other teams however, and will be again with these Leafs very soon.

As the puck was travelling I thought, “OK, who is PIT gonna out have to start the OT.” Because that little black thing was in the net. I mean, c’mon, Sid on his off wing. Was gonna be nothing but top titty. ………… And then, it wasn’t.

This 2016-2017 season and the next two were simply magical for me. So, so much hope and so fun. It was all new and like found gold, after the last 11years of mediocrity. In hindsight, I think the peak of the new era. Matthews, Marner, and Nylander all coming in at the same time on their ELCs, taking the League by storm, blended with other young players like Hyman, Brown and Kapanen, and incumbent good players like Kadri, Bozak, Van Riemsdyk and Komorov. Everyone young and super hungry. A decent defence with Reilly, and Freddie Andersen standing tall in net. Years two and three bounced in 7 games by the Cup-calibre Bruins, with Naz getting suspended for both and Babs unflexible (could have tipped the scales). Even those crisp blue unies with no ads and the ropes at the collar were gorgeous. But year 4 starting to have to pay the superstars thus losing that vital second-tier in the Cap system (even with Tavares coming in). Then Covid hit in 2020, they lost Freddie and everything changed. Clark-Gilmour-Burns in the early 90's, the Sundin-Cujo-Quinn era and then this last one. I absolutely loved those teams. Thanks for the incredible ride guys.

This was a fun game from the outsider's point of view. My good friend is a lifelong Toronto fan and collector of Maple Leafs game-worn jerseys and masks. After Guentzel put the Pens up in the 3rd, he sent me a text saying he was selling all his Leafs shit. Once Brown scored the winner and Matthews hit the empty net, I responded to him saying I'd buy it all for $15,000.00. He turned the offer down.

i don't think it will be a sweep but it will be a hard series for the leafs to win. If Kadri can get under Ovechkin's skin enough to throw him off this series than we might have a better chance. A lot of things need to go right for the leafs to win this series but at the end of the days i'm just glad the kids will get playoff experience and don't have to spend another year watching them.
